C60 fullerene enhances cisplatin anticancer activity and overcomes tumor cell drug resistance

We formulated and analyzed a novel nanoformulation of the anticancer drug cisplatin （Cis） with C60 fullerene （C60＋Cis complex） and showed its higher toxicity toward tumor cell lines in vitro when compared to Cis alone. The highest toxicity of the complex was observed in HL-60/adr and HL-60/vinc chemotherapy- resistant human leukemia cell sublines （resistant to Adriamycin and Vinculin, respectively）. We discovered that the action of the C60＋Cis complex is associated with overcoming the drug resistance of the tumor cell lines through observing an increased number of apoptotic cells in the Annexin V/PI assay. Moreover, in vivo assays with Lewis lung carcinoma （LLC） C57BL/6J male mice showed that the C60＋Cis complex increases tumor growth inhibition, when compared to Cis or C60 fullerenes alone. Simultaneously, we conducted a molecular docking study and performed an Ames test. Molecular docking specifies the capability of a C60 fullerene to form van der Waals interactions with potential binding sites on P-glycoprotein （P-gp）, multidrug resistance protein 1 （MRP-1）, and multidrug resistance protein 2 （MRP-2） molecules. The observed phenomenon revealed a possible mechanism to bypass tumor cell drug resistance by the C60＋Cis complex. Additionally, the results of the Ames test show that the formation of such a complex diminishes the Cis mutagenic activity and may reduce the probability of secondary neoplasm formation. In conclusion, the C60＋Cis complex effectively induced tumor cell death in vitro and inhibited tumor growth in vivo, overcoming drug resistance likely by the potential of the C60 fullerene to interact with P-gp, MRP-1, and MRP-2 molecules. Thus, the C60＋Cis complex might be a potential novel chemotherapy modification.

Background:The aim of the study was to evaluate the outcomes of dissatisfed patients reporting poor visual quality following implantation of multifocal intraocular lenses(MF-IOLs),managed by IOL exchange with another multifocal optical ***:This is a retrospective series of ***-IOL exchange was done in 15 dissatisfed patients(30 eyes)with the perception of poor visual quality for far distance afected by neuroadaptation *** underwent a bilateral exchange of a MF-IOL with another MF-IOL of a diferent optical *** outcomes and complications were *** including Quality of Vision(QoV),Visual Function Index-14(VF-14)and its Rasch-revised version(VF-8R)and a satisfaction questionnaire were also used for outcome ***:The mean elapsed time from implantation to explantation-reimplantation was 11.8 *** QoV scores improved signifcantly across all the three *** function improved with a change in VF-14 score from 60.41±24.81 to 90.16±10.91(P<0.001).The VF-8R score improved as *** uncorrected distance visual acuity improved from 0.24 to 0.12 logMAR after exchange(P<0.001)and corrected distance visual acuity improved from 0.15 to 0.04 logMAR(P<0.001).Safety and efcacy indexes reached 1.46 and 1.16,*** patients’satisfaction following MF-IOL exchange,80%of the patients reported they would have the MF-IOL reimplantation procedure ***:Patient dissatisfaction with neuroadaptation failure following MF-IOL implantation can be managed in 80%of our cases by MF-IOL exchange with a diferent MF-IOL optical profle.

Double-skin façade simulation with computational fluid dynamics:A review of simulation trends,validation methods and research gaps

Dynamic simulation of a double-skin façade(DSF)with computational fluid dynamics(CFD)can be challenging due to the lack of validated models and benchmarking ***,there is a lack of consensus in the scientific community on what constitutes a successfully validated DSF *** present review study identifies simulation trends and research gaps for DSFs simulated with ***,this article presents a series of CFD simulations in which key aspects of the DSF modelling are varied:2D or 3D modelling approaches,turbulence viscosity models(TVMs),radiation models,and wall *** simulation results are compared to the empirical data(both temperature and velocity fields)of a benchmark test with laboratory-controlled boundary *** analysis shows that using the k-εRNG model with enhanced wall treatment and surface-to-surface(S2S)radiation model yields the best results for the 2D case of natural convection ***,it is shown that accounting for the velocity field in the validation process is essential to ensure the suitability of a ***,the authors advocate for the use of selected dimensionless numbers to improve the comparability of the different DSF scientific *** would also help to identify relevant experimental datasets for validation and suitable CFD simulation settings for specific DSF cases.

Evaluating the different boundary conditions to simulate airflow and heat transfer in Double-Skin Facade

The CFD simulation accuracy mostly depends on the appropriate setting of boundary conditions and numerical simulation *** study shows the influence of two types of boundary condition settings on the CFD simulation results of Double-Skin Facade(DSF)for a specific *** two boundary settings are the constant temperature on the DSF surfaces called Boundary A,and Boundary B is defined via solar radiation using the Discrete Ordinate radiation Model(DOM).The paper verified both the numerical simulations using the experimental *** the numerical results of two types of boundaries with experimental data shows that both cases underestimated the values lower than 5.2 K and 0.1 m/s for the temperature and velocity respectively at the regarded measured *** A gives more accurate temperature prediction results,while Boundary B shows velocity magnitude closer to the measurements in the middle height of the cavity;the average temperature and velocity differences between the two boundary types are 0.6 K and 0.003 m/s respectively which are ***,the selection of boundary conditions depends on study purposes,however,when the DSF is equipped with blinds and if there is not enough data in hand but the exact value of solar irradiation,using the Boundary B approach is suggested;it can provide reasonable results associated with multi-type of thermal boundary conditions at the same ***,if the goal is to investigate the flow pattern in the DSF,Boundary B is argued to perform better than the constant temperature boundary condition.

The demand for cosmetology services has been recently growing in Ukraine,but there is no proper legal regulation for their *** aim of the article is to analyze the current status and specific features of legal regulation for the provision of cosmetology services in Ukraine,as well as to suggest the improvements to Ukrainian legislation in this *** main objective is to distinguish the problems and to develop suggestions to improve regulatory legal acts regulating the provision of cosmetic services in *** to identify the specific features of the current state of legal regulation in regard to the provision of cosmetology services in Ukraine were the legislation and case law of Ukraine,the works of Ukrainian scholars,analytical materials and Internet *** methodological basis of the research is general and special methods of scientific cognition,the use of which is due to specific features of the legal regulation of the market of cosmetology *** has been stated that there is currently no normatively established procedure and specific features for the implementation of activities for the provision of cosmetology services in Ukrainian laws;there are also no standards for their provision,treatment of complications and training of qualified *** author has formulated proposals to improve the legislation regulating the provision of cosmetology services and cosmetic care to the Ukrainian *** Ministry of Health of Ukraine was offered to develop and approve a regulatory legal act governing the procedure for the provision of cosmetology services and the list of services that can be provided exclusively by health professionals.

The evolution of solidified structure of S50C steel during heat treatment in compact strip production process was studied through an ultra-high-temperature confocal scanning laser *** was found that the solidified structure consisted of dendritic crystals with secondary dendrite arm spacing ranging in 32-120μm,where carbon segregation was evident,and the dendrite arms wereα-*** insignificant change was observed at a soaking temperature of 1180℃,whereas at 1300℃,the finer structure firstly disappeared,and then,the coarsening decreased,indicating that carbon tended to be ***,the microsegregation was improved at 1300℃for 15 *** phase transformation ofα-Fe→γ-Fe enhanced the carbon diffusion,and the evolution of the equivalent radius req was controlled by carbon *** diffusion coefficient of carbon(D=15μm2/s)was determined by using the inverse problem method.

With this contribution,as a comment to the publication in Journal of Mate rials Science&Technology 44(2020)54,reporting giant dielectric response,structural characterization and numerical simulations in Sr_(1-1.5 x)Bi_xTiO_(3)ceramics,we show that the re ported results are rather contradicting and not well analysed,while the suggested mechanism for the giant permittivity response is not valid or doubtful and has to be ***,many details and data are missing making impossible not only to call the obtained results very suitable for practical application but even to reproduce them.

The effect of two COVID-19 lockdowns on physical activity of school-age children

The introduction of strict quarantine restrictions in many countries initiated a direction in science to study the behavioral characteristics of children and adolescents during the social isolation at the population *** present our observations during the two lockdowns in *** objective of this study was to determine:a)the level of light(LPA)and moderate-to-vigorous(MVPA)physical activity among school-age children,and b)the impact of the external and internal factors on their physical activity during the *** Physical Activity Questionnaire(GPAQ)as part of our questionnaire Q-RAPH was *** of 1091 children 6–18 years old(54%boys)filled Q-RAPH at two measurement points in 2020 and *** performing ANCOVA and logistic regression,we found a significant decrease in MVPA by 12.7%in 2021 compared to 2020(p<0.001)while LPA was about 1.5 h a day during both *** proportion of children who reach the recommended levels of MVPA also decreased by 13.7%in 2021(p<0.001).Factors negatively affecting the achievement of 60 min a day of MVPA were female gender,chronic diseases,overweight/obesity,non-participation in organized sports,and a decrease in the average air *** study evidences the insufficient level of preventive measures and requires an intensification of health education among the Ukrainian *** developing preventive measures,special attention should be paid to groups vulnerable to MVPA reduction as children who have chronic diseases and/or overweight/obesity as well as non-participation in sports.

Prospects of Technological Improvement of Nuclear and Environmental Safety of World Energy

Today, the most urgent problem of the existing and future nuclear power industry is to ensure the nuclear and environmental safety of the operation of nuclear power reactor units (NPPs) and nuclear power plants (NPPs). It is solved thanks to the application of deeply echeloned protection and an anti-accident complex of methods and means for effective control of the operation of active reactor zones (AZR). However, the danger of existing NPPs in the world from time to time manifests itself in the form of severe post-project accidents and catastrophes with the release into the environment of a significant amount of radioactive materials dangerous for all living things. The results of the analysis show that the unconditional fulfillment of the main requirements of nuclear environmental safety and biocompatibility is possible only in the so-called wave nuclear reactor of the G-V generation, which, unlike reactors of the previous generations III, II+ and IV, does not require supercritical loading of the core with nuclear fuel. In the active zone of this reactor, nuclear-physical processes governed by physical law are implemented, which exclude the operator’s participation in regulating the reactivity of the reactor’s active zone, which makes it the reactor with the highest level of nuclear and environmental safety today, which is based on the principles of so-called internal safety, free from the human factor. The possibility of burning nuclear fuel based on U238 and Th232 in it expands the reserves of energetic nuclear fuel almost to inexhaustibility. The technology of nuclear reactors of the G5 generation through the secondary use of spent irradiated nuclear fuel (SNF) for the production of energy and energy raw materials with simultaneous burning of it to an environmentally safe state is able to quickly reduce the available stocks and further production of dangerous SNF, guarantee the nuclear and environmental safety of NPPs with reactors G5 and to technologically mak
