The electrochemical corrosion mechanisms of Mg alloys were extensively studied in previous investigations of different chemical com-positions,modified surface states and various electrolyte ***,recent research focused on the active state of Mg dissolution,leading to unresolved effects of secondary phases adjacent to a stableα-solid solution passive *** present study investigates the fundamental electrochemical corrosion mechanisms of three different Laves phases with varying phase morphologies and phase fractions in the passive state of Mg-Al-ca *** microstructure was characterized by(transmission-)electron microscopy and synchrotron-based transmission X-ray *** electrochemical corrosion resistance was determined with a standard three-electrode setup and advanced in-situ flow cell measurements.A new electrochemical activity sequence(c15>c36>α-Mg>c14)was obtained,as a result of a stable passive layer formation on theα-solid ***,nm-scale Mg-rich precipitates were identified within the Laves phases,which tend to inhibit the corrosion kinetics.

HI in High Gas-phase Metallicity Dwarf Galaxy WISEA J230615.06+143927.9

We present resolved Giant Metrewave Radio Telescope H I observations of the high gas-phase metallicity dwarf galaxy WISEA J230615.06+143927.9(z = 0.005)(hereafter J2306) and investigate whether it could be a Tidal Dwarf Galaxy(TDG) candidate. TDGs are observed to have higher metallicities than normal dwarfs. J2306 has an unusual combination of a blue g-r color of 0.23 mag, irregular optical morphology and high-metallicity(12 +log(O/H) = 8.68 ± 0.14), making it an interesting galaxy to study in more detail. We find J2306 to be an H I rich galaxy with a large extended, unperturbed rotating H I disk. Using our H I data we estimated its dynamical mass and found the galaxy to be dark matter(DM) dominated within its H I radius. The quantity of DM, inferred from its dynamical mass, appears to rule out J2306 as an evolved TDG. A wide area environment search reveals J2306 to be isolated from any larger galaxies which could have been the source of its high gas metallicity. Additionally, the H I morphology and kinematics of the galaxy show no indication of a recent merger to explain the *** detailed optical spectroscopic observations of J2306 might provide an answer to how a seemingly ordinary irregular dwarf galaxy achieved such a high level of metal enrichment.

We discuss interference effects important for the form factors extraction in the vicinity of J/ψ and ψ（2S） resonances in combination with resonance parameters determination. The implementation to the Monte carlo event generator PHOKHARA of the J/ψ and ψ（2S） contributions to the muon, pion and kaon pairs production associated with a photon at next-to-leading order is also described.

c:N:P stoichiometry as an indicator of Histosol drainage in lowland and mountain forest ecosystems

Background:Peatlands form one of the largest carbon pools in the terrestrial ecosystems,representing approximately one-third of the world’s soil *** aim of this study was to evaluate c:N:P stoichiometry as an indicator of changes initialized by dehydration in Histosols of varied *** types of Histosols from lowland and mountain areas were investigated:fibric Histosols,hemic Histosols,sapric Histosols and Histosols ***:We established the concentration and stoichiometry of carbon,nitrogen and phosphorous in the Histosols,and found marked differences in c:N:P stoichiometry between the different types–especially the dehydrated *** mean c:N:P ratio of dehydrated soil was narrower than the c:N:P ratio of soil under the influence of water,which demonstrates that dehydrating Histosols leads to a narrower c:N:P *** is directly related to the intensification of the organic matter mineralisation process and the resulting loss of organic *** recorded a 50%lower carbon stock in the case of Histosols drainic compared to the other types of ***:The narrower c:N:P stoichiometry in Histosols drainic is the result of an decrease in the ratio of N and P to the c ***,this study demonstrates that c:N:P stoichiometry is a useful indicator of the changes that occur in Histosols as a result of dehydration.

^(13)c-methacetin breath test reproducibility study reveals persistent cYP1A2 stimulation on repeat examinations

AIM: To find the most reproducible quantitative parameter of a standard 13c-methacetin breath test (13c-MBT). METHODS: Twenty healthy volunteers (10 female, 10 male) underwent the 13c-MBT after intake of 75 mg 13c-methacetin p.o. on three occasions. Short-and medium-term reproducibility was assessed with paired examinations taken at an interval of 2 and 18 d (medians), respectively. RESULTS: The reproducibility of the 1-h cumulative 13c recovery (AUc0-60), characterized by a coefficient of variation of 10%, appeared to be considerably better than the reproducibility of the maximum momentary 13c recovery or the time of reaching it. Remarkably, as opposed to the short gap between consecutive examinations, the capacity of the liver to handle 13c-methacetin increased slightly but statistically significantly when a repeat dose was administered after two to three *** the AUc0-60, the magnitude of this fixed bias amounted to 7.5%. Neither the time gap between the repeat examinations nor the gender of the subjects affected the 13c-MBT reproducibility. cONcLUSION: 13c-MBT is most reproducibly quantified by the cumulative 13c recovery, but the exactitude thereof may be modestly affected by persistent stimulation of cYP1A2 on repeat examinations.

Deadwood affects the soil organic matter fractions and enzyme activity of soils in altitude gradient of temperate forests

The main objective of our study has been to determine the role of deadwood in the shaping of the amount of soil organic matter fractions in mountain forest *** this purpose,a climosequence approach comprising north(N)and south(S)exposure along the altitudinal gradient(600,800,1000 and 1200 m a.s.l.)was set *** comparing the properties of decomposing deadwood and those of the soils located directly beneath the decaying wood we drew conclusions about the role of deadwood in the shaping of soil organic matter fractions and soil carbon storage in different climate *** basic properties,enzymatic activity and fractions of soil organic matter(SOM)were determined in deadwood and affected directly by the components released from decaying *** decomposed deadwood impacts soil organic matter stabilization more strongly than the less decayed deadwood and the light fraction of SOM is more sensitive to deadwood effects than the heavy fraction regardless of the location in the altitude *** in SOM mineral-associated fraction c content is more pronounced in soils under the influence of deadwood located in lower locations of warmer *** released from decaying wood stimulate the enzymatic activity of soils that are within the range of deadwood influence.

Antimicrobial activity of water and acetone extracts of some Eucomis taxa

Objective: To evaluate the antibacterial and antifungal properties of acetone and water extracts of selected Eucomis ***: The bulbs of Eucomis bicolor, Eucomis comosa(E. comosa) and E. comosa cv. were dried and examples from each experimental treatment were ground separately into powder. Each sample was divided into two groups with equal amounts of powder,and respectively extracted with water and a 70% solution of aqueous acetone. The crude water extracts were then filtered through a 0.2 mm filter. The 70% aqueous acetone extracts were next concentrated at 40c. After the evaporation of the acetone, the samples were additionally filtered through a 0.2 mm filter. The antibacterial and antifungal activities of the extracts against chosen microorganisms were then ***: The results of the study demonstrated that the water and acetone extracts of Eucomis bulbs have an influence on the viability of Staphylococcus aureus and Bacillus atrophaeus strains. In the case of mediums containing E. comosa and E. comosa ***, a decrease in the number of gram-positive bacteria was dependent on the extract concentration. The best results were obtained in the case of the 25% extracts. The water and acetone extracts of Eucomis bulbs did not cause a decrease in the number of Escherichia coli cells. Additionally, antifungal activity against Aspergillus niger, Botrytis cinerea, Stachybotrys chartarum, Mucor circinelloides and Rhizopus oryzae cells were also not ***: The tested gram-negative and fungi microorganisms show resistance towards acetone and water extracts of Eucomis bulbs. The highest activity is found in the case of Aspergillus clavatus, Staphylococcus aureus and Bacillus atrophaeus strains,which shows water and acetone extracts of 25%.

AIM To evaluate the association of IFNL3(IL28B) SNP rs4803217 with severity of disease and treatment outcome in chronic hepatitis c(cHc).METHODS The study enrolled 196 cHc Polish patients(82 women and 114 men in age 20-64) infected with hepatitis c virus(HcV) genotype 1. They were treatment na?ve and qualified to pegylated interferon alpha(PEG-IFN-α) and ribavirin(RBV) therapy. The analyzed baseline parameters included: degree of inflammation, stage of fibrosis, viral load as well as alanine aminotransferase(ALT), asparagine aminotransferase(AST) and total bilirubin(TBIL). The analysis of response to therapy included: sustained virological response(SVR), defined as undetectable serum HcV RNA level six month after completion of 48-wk therapy, and relapse, defined as achieving undetectable viral load at the end of treatment but not SVR. HcV genotyping and HcV RNA quantification were performed using commercially available tests. DNA was isolated from peripheral blood mononuclear cells or from buccal cell swabs. In addition to rs4803217, also single nucleotide polymorphisms(SNPs)(rs12979860, rs8099917 and rs12980275) of known significance in predicting of HcV clearance were analyzed. SNPs were determined by high resolution melt analysis and confirmed by sequencing of amplicons. RESULTS Frequency of rs4803217 genotypes in studied group was as follows: 27.55%; 54.59% and 17.86% for cc, cA and AA, respectively. The rs4803217 SNP, similar to other analyzed SNPs, was not associated with severity of cHc(grade of inflammation, stage of fibrosis, baseline viral load as well as biochemical parameters: ALT, AST, TBIL). It was demonstrated that the rs4803217 c allele is associated with SVR(c vs A: P c allele: P = 0.0002) and nonrelapse(c vs A: P = 0.001; dose of c allele: P = 0.002).
