Gastric pseudolipomatosis, usual or unusual? Re-evaluation of 909 endoscopic gastric biopsies

Microvesicular pneumatosis intestinalis, also called 'pseudolipomatosis' for resembling fatty infiltration, is characterized by the presence of small gas voids in the gastrointestinal wall, especially in mucosa. These voids are not lined with epithelia. There are few reported cases about colon, duodenum and skin. Because there is only one case report about pseudolipomatosis in the stomach, we reevaluated 909 endoscopic biopsies taken from gastric corpus to check the presence of pseudolipomatosis. We determined pseudolipomatosis foci in 3 percent (n=27) of biopsies. In two cases there were pseudolipomatosis foci in endoscopic biopsies having otherwise normal histologic findings, while there were pseudolipomatosis foci in endoscopic biopsies of 25 patients with gastritis. H pylori was found in 85 % of biopsies having pseudolipomatosis foci. In this study, we presented some histopathologic characteristics of pseudolipomatosis seen in gastric mucosa.

The possible impacts on nitrogen-cycle in a p-nitrophenol （PNP） polluted soil and the effectiveness of wastewater sludge amendments in restoring nitrification potential and urease activity were evaluated by an incubation study. The results indicated that PNP at 250 mg/kg soil inhibited urease activity, nitrification potential, arginine ammonification rate and heterotrophic bacteria counts to some extents. After exposure to PNP, the nitrification potential of the tested soil was dramatically reduced to zero over a period of 30 days. Based on the findings, nitrification potential was postulated as a simple biochemical indicator for PNP pollution in soils. Nitrogen-cycling processes in soils responded positively to the applications of wastewater sludges. A sludge application rate of 200 tons/ha was sufficient for successful biostimulation of these nitrogen processes. The microbial activities in sludge-amended, heavy PNP-polluted soils seemed to recover after 30–45 days, indicating the effectiveness of sludge as a useful soil amendment.

A novel sensitive and relatively selective kinetic method is presented for the determination of V（V） based on its catalytic effect on the oxidation reaction of Celestine blue by potassium bromate in the presence of citric acid as an activator. The reaction was monitored spectropho- tometrically by measuring the decrease in absorbance of Celestine blue at a maximum absorption wavelength of 540 nm between 0.5 and 9 min （the fixed-time method） in an H3PO4 medium at 45℃. The effect of various parameters such as concentrations of H3PO4, citric acid, potassium bromate and Celestine blue, ionic strength, reaction temperature and time on the rate of V（V） catalyzed reaction was studied. The method is free from the most interferences, especially from large amounts of V（IV）. The decrease in absorbance is proportional to the concentration of V（V） over the entire concentration range tested （0.025-1.25 ***^-1） with a detection limit of 6.80 tag.L^-1 （according to statistical 3Sblank/k criterion） and a coefficient of variation （CV） of 1.78% （for ten replicate measurements at 95% confidence level）. The proposed method suffers from a few interferences such as Cr（VI） and Hg（Ⅱ） ions. The method was successfully applied to the determination of V（V） in river water, lake water, tap water, natural drinking water samples and a certified standard reference material such as SRM-1640 with satis- factory results. The vanadium contents of natural water samples were detected by using both linear calibration curve and standard addition curve methods. The recoveries of spiked vanadium （V） into the certified standard water sample were found to be quantitative, and the reproducibility was satisfactory. It was observed that the results of the SRM 1640 were in good agreement with the certified value.

Recycling of waste electrical and electronic equipment （WEEE） is crucially important since it handles hazardous waste according to ever tightening laws and regulations and it adds benefits to economy and sustainable environment. Disassembly is one of the most important processes performed during the recovery of WEEE. The overall goal of disassembly is to maximize the retrieval of various metals and plastics contained in WEEE in order to reduce their negative effects on human health and environmental sustainability and to increase economic gains. This study aims to evaluate alternative layout configurations for WEEE disassembly systems （WDS）. In this context, various configurations were compared in terms of pre-defined performance criteria, such as the total number of disassembled WEEE and the total revenue from sales, using simulation models. The results of this study show that the perfomaance of a WDS was significantly affected by output transfer systems along with the specialization of operators on certain types of WEEE.

Goksu Delta is an important wetland where the Goksu River reaches to sea in the eastern of the town Tasucu-lcel. The delta is classified as a Wetland of International Importance according to the Ramsar Convention on Wetlands of International Importance. The amount of fertilizers used in this area was 7200 tons in 2006. These pollutants affect the surface and groundwater quality negatively. The intensively used fertilizers and pesticides contain not only N- and P compounds but also some heavy metals. The contents of all pollutants in surface waters were determined for four different seasons between 2006 and 2008 and with these data a Geographic Information System （GIS） has been constructed by using Map Info. From the photometric heavy metal analysis, it is inferred that the excess concen- tration of Fe, Ni, Mn, Mo and Cu at some locations is the cause of undesirable quality for drinking purposes. The source of excess concentration of various heavy metals is the agricultural activities and fertilizers. It is determined that in all periods between 2006 and 2008 the heavy metals and other pollutants in the fertilizers and pesticides transported easily to river water with irrigation return flow. The organic pollutants, including COD, BOD, NH3 and NO3 followed the sharply increasing trends from Silifke city to Mediterranean Sea. The water quality of Goksu River is modeled and determined that the waste water discharge of 10,700 m3/day from Silifke city does not create a serious problem because of the high amount of flow rate of Goksu River.

Some new N-alkoxycarbonyl-N″-benzoyl-benzamidrazones （p-toluamidrazones） 3a-3d, and 1,3,5-trisubstituted 1,2,4-triazole 4a-4h derivatives by starting from N-benzoylbenzimidates or N-benzoyl-p-toluimidates. The structures of compounds 3 and 4 were established on the basis of elemental analyses, IR, ^1H NMR, ^13C NMR and UV data. Antimicrobial experiments of the compounds performed by using agar-well diffusion and broth microdilution methods revealed that only compounds 3a-3d, 4a and 4b showed inhibitory effect only on Candida albicans ATCC 60193. However, compound 4b had also specific antibacterial activity against Staphylococcus aureus ATCC 25923. The other compounds showed neither antifungal nor antibacterial activities. Compounds 3a, 4a and 4b have been screened on three human tumor cell lines, breast cancer （MCF7）, non small cell lung cancer （NCI-H460）, and CNS cancer （SF-268） at the National Cancer Institute （NCI）, USA, which were found to exhibit low antiproliferative activity.

The title compound, 4-amino-3-（p-chlorophenyl）-5-（p-methoxybenzyl）-4H-1,2,4- triazole I , C16H15ClN4O）, has been determined using X-ray diffraction techniques and the molecular structure has also been optimized at the B3LYP/6-31 G（d, p） level using density functional theory （DFT）. The triazole ring exhibits dihedral angles of 41.61（15）o and 80.73（11）o with the phenyl rings. The molecules are linked principally by N–H…N hydrogen bonds involving the amino NH2 group and a triazole N atom, forming C（5） chains which are further linked to give a two-dimensional network of molecules. The N–H…N hydrogen bonding is supported by C–H…N hydrogen bond and C–H…π interaction. Intermolecular N–H…N and C–H…N hydrogen bonds produce R22（9）, R44（10） and R44（20） rings.

Objeclive:To evaluate the larvicidal activity of the tuber extracts isolated from two species of Cyclamen（Cyxltimen mimbile *** Cyclamen alpinum Dammann ***） against Culex pipiens L.（Diptera:Culicidae）.Methods:Twenty young（first-second） or older（third- fourth） instars of tile Culex pipiens were exposed to various concentrations（100 to I 000 ppm） of the *** was recorded after 12-,24-,48-.72- and 96-h of ***:We determined that the young larval stages were more susceptible to the extracts in comparison with the older larval stages.A comparison of LC90 and LC90 values has shown that Cyclamen mimbile was more active than Cyclamen ***:This study is the first to report on the larvicidal activity of the extracts of Cyclamen species against Culex *** studies are needed to isolate and identify the active components involved,their mode of action,and effects on other mosquito and pest species.
