AIM： Recently it has been reported that granulocyte colony stimulating factor （G-CSF） can induce hypercoagulability in healthy bone marrow donors. It is conceivable that the induction of a prothrombotic state in a recipient of an organ graft with already impaired perfusion might cause further deterioration in the transplanted organ. This study evaluated whether G-CSF treatment worsens liver perfusion following liver transplantation in the rat model. MeTHODS： A non-arterialized rat liver transplantation model was employed to evaluate the effect of G-CSF treatment on the liver in a syngeneic and allogeneic strain combination. Study outcomes included survival time and liver damage as investigated by liver enzymes and liver histology. Observation times were 1 d, 1 wk and 12 wk. ReSULTS： Rats treated with G-CSF had increased incidence and severity of biliary damage following liver transplantation. In these animals, hepatocellular necrosis was accentuated in the centrilobular region. These lesions are indicative of impaired perfusion in G-CSF treated animals. CONCLUSION： G-CSF should be used with caution in recipients of liver transplantation, as treatment might enhance preexisting, undetected perfusion problems and ultimately lead to ischemia induced biliary complications .

The growth of Fe nanoclusters oN the Ge（001） surface has been studied using low-temperature scanning tunneling microscopy （STM） and density functional theory （DFT） calculations. STM results indicate that Fe nucleates on the Ge（001） surface, forming well-ordered nanoclusters of uniform size. Depending on the preparation conditions, two types of nanoclusters were observed having either four or sixteen Fe atoms within a nanocluster. The results were confirmed by DFT calculations. Annealing the nanoclusters at 420 K leads to the formation of nanorow structures, due to cluster mobility at such temperature. The Fe nanoclusters and nanorow structures formed on the Ge（001） surface show a superparamagnetic behaviour as measured by X-ray magnetic circular dichroism.

There are many methods to identify and recognize the molecular and behavioural differences between *** of the methods for the detection and identification of unknown organisms as well as intermolecular and intramolecular structural differences is MALDI-TOF mass ***,differentiation of Fomes fomentarius decay capabilities on the chemical properties of the wood cell wall of the tree species Quercus castaneifolia,Juglans regia,and Carpinus betulus were used to determine and characterize the destructive behaviour of *** decay by MALDI-TOF mass *** results showed that the fungus had more significant destructive behaviour on *** than the other *** this evidence,completely removal of xylan hemicellulose fragment+Na+at peak 1227 Da and severe digestion of fragment of glucomannan hemicellulose at peak 1477–1480 Da that it seems that signs of soft-rot patterns were obtained from the decayed sample of ***,while these were incremental and unchanged for *** and ***,***,*** had different peaks of atomic mass than *** and *** wood,*** results showed that this technique could be useful for separating and identifying unknown compounds of the wood cell wall attacked by fungi relying on their biological behaviour.

Writing at the nanoscale using the desorption of oxygen adatoms from the oxygen-rich MoO2＋x/Mo（110） surface is demonstrated by scanning tunnelling microscopy （STM）. High-temperature oxidation of the Mo（110） surface results in a strained, bulk-like MOO2（010） ultra-thin film with an O-Mo-O trilayer structure. Due to the lattice mismatch between the Mo（110） and the MOO2（010）, the latter consists of well-ordered molybdenum oxide nanorows separated by 2.5 nm. The MoO2（010）/Mo（110） structure is confirmed by STM data and density functional theory calculations. Further oxidation results in the oxygen-rich MoOa^x/Mo（110） surface, which exhibits perfectly aligned double rows of oxygen adatoms, imaged by STM as bright protrusions. These adatoms can be removed from the surface by scanning （or pulsing） at positive sample biases greater than 1.5 V. Tip movement along the surface can be used for controlled lithography （or writing） at the nanoscale, with a minimum feature size of just 3 nm. By moving the STM tip in a predetermined fashion, information can be written and read by applying specific biases between the surface and the tip.

The growth and ordering of C60 molecules on the WO2/W（110） surface have been studied by low-temperature scanning tunnelling microscopy and spectroscopy （STM and STS）, low-energy electron diffraction （LeeD）, and density functional theory （DFT） calculations. The results indicate the growth of a well-ordered C60 layer on the WO2/W（110） surface in which the molecules form a close-packed hexagonal structure with a unit cell parameter equal to 0.95 nm. The nucleation of the C60 layer starts at the substrate＇s inner step edges. Low-temperature STM of C60 molecules performed at 78 K demonstrates well-resolved molecular orbitals within individual molecules. In the C60 monolayer on the WO2/W（110） surface, the molecules are aligned in one direction due to intermolecular interaction, as shown by the ordered molecular orbitals of individual C60. STS data obtained from the C60 monolayer on the WO2/W（110） surface are in good agreement with DFT calculations.

One of the primary aims of the actinide community within nanoscience is to develop a good understanding similar to what is currently the case for stable elements. As a consequence, efficient, reliable and versatile synthesis techniques dedicated to the formation of new actinide-based nano-objects （e.g., nanocrystals） are necessary. Hence, a ＂library＂ dedicated to the preparation of various actinidebased nanoscale building blocks is currently being developed. Nanoscale building blocks with tunable sizes, shapes and compositions are of prime importance. So far, the non-aqueous synthesis method in highly coordinating organic media is the only approach which has demonstrated the capability to provide size and shape control of actinide-based nanocrystals （both for thorium and uranium, and recently extended to neptunium and plutonium）. In this paper, we demonstrate that the non-aqueous approach is also well adapted to control the chemical composition of the nanocrystals obtained when mixing two different actinides. Indeed, the controlled hot co-injection of thorium acetylacetonate and uranyl acetate （together with additional capping agents） into benzyl ether can be used to synthesize thorium/uranium mixed oxide nanocrystals covering the full compositional spectrum. Additionally, we found that both size and shape are modified as a function of the thorium：uranium ratio. Finally, the magnetic properties of the different thorium/uranium mixed oxide nanocrystals were investigated. Contrary to several reports, we did not observe any ferromagnetic behavior. As a consequence, ferromagnetism cannot be described as a universal feature of nanocrystals of non-magnetic oxides as recently claimed in the literature.

The influence of HDL and purified apoprotein e on platelet activation induced by serotonin

elevated plasma levels of high density lipoprotein (HDL) are recognized as having a beneficial influence on the progression of atherosclerosis. As platelets are closely involved in atherosclerogenesis, it is difficult to evaluate if the protective effect of HDL is associated with its ability to affect platelet structure and function. Previous studies give conflicting reports concerning the HDL platelet interaction. In our in vitro experiments, washed human blood platelets were preincubated with HDL (100 800 μg/ml) and then stimulated by serotonin (5 Hydroxytryptamine, 1 5 μM), a potent agonist and mediator in the process of atherosclerosis. Aggregatory studies and electron microscopy revealed that HDL could not prevent morphological alterations of blood platelets treated with serotonin. Furthermore, high dosages of HDL led to platelet activation. These findings indicate that HDL may not inhibit agonist induced platelet activation. As HDL is a heterogeneous group of different subclasses with opposite effects on platelet function, it Platelet Research Unit, Institute of Anatomy, University of Münster, Germany (Pfennig O and Dierichs R) Institute of Physiology, Ruhr University Bochum, Bochum, Germany (Liu B) can be concluded that HDL platelet interaction reflects relative concentrations of the particular sample. Our findings suggest that the protective influence of HDL may not be associated with decreased platelet function. Apoprotein e rich subclasses of HDL (HDL 2), particularly HDL enriched apoprotein e (HDL e), inhibit agonist induced platelet activation. In order to enlighten the role of apo e in this process, platelets in suspensions were preincubated with purified apoprotein e (50 400 μg/ml) and then stimulated by serotonin (5 μM). Apoprotein e of 300 μg/ml prevented morphological alterations of blood platelets and suppressed serotonin induced activation. Lower concentrated apoprotein e showed no clear effects. There is evid

A comprehensive understanding of the complex biogeochemical interactions between organic matter and persistent contaminants in the suspended matter is vital for ecoefficient estuary ***,little is known regarding aeration effects in suspended particulate ***,this study aimed to investigate the effects of aeration on the suspended matter from a Tropical and eutrophic estuarine *** water with 60 g/L of suspended particulate matter(SPM)was collected from Guanabara Bay,Rio de Janeiro,Brazil,transferred to experimental boxes and aerated for 61 *** aggregates monitoring included abiotic variables measurements and,determination of total organic matter(TOM),biopolymers composition,bacterial activity,trace metals,and polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons(PAHs)*** aeration enhanced dissolved oxygen(DO)concentration and the redox potential(eh).However,from days 0 to 61 the predominant bacterial activities were denitrification and *** transport system activity increased after day 10,and aerobic activity was detected after day *** summary,aeration increased aerobic bacterial activity,lipids(LIP)and trace metal concentrations,although diminished protein/carbohydrate ratio and PAH *** metals concentration(Ni,Pb,Cu,Cr,Mn,and Fe)were the highest on day 19 when the p H was *** presented toxic values(Cu>20.0μg/g).The p H showed a strong negative correlation with eh(r=-0.94;penvironment(p H≤5.9)in marine ecosystems with high loads of toxic trace metals is unsafe for ***,managers must be aware of the environmental and biological risks of introducing the aeration technique into a eutrophic marine environment.
