Biostratigraphy investigation of Nsukka Form.tion was carried out by subjecting weLt cutting sam.les obtained from.Nzam.1 weLL to patynotogicat studies with the view towards determ.ning the relative geologic age and pataeoenvironm.nt of deposition of the sedim.nts. Sam.Les were treated in the Laboratory through digestion with hydrofluoric acid, sieving with 5 μm. oxidation with Nitric acid and m.unting of the sLides into sections with DPX m.untant. A fairLy high abundance and diversity of m.ospores were recovered, white the interval （847-1372 m. contains distinctive and diagnostic patynom.rphs which are stratigraphicatty im.ortant. A Spinizonocolpites baculatus assem.lage zone was established based on the basal occurrence of S. baculatus, Spinizonocolpites echinatus, Constructipollenites ineffectus, Periretisyncolpites sp. Periretisyncolpites giganteus, m.nocolpites sp 1, Foveotriletes m.rgaritae, Syncolporites m.rginatus, and Longapertites m.rginatus. The upper part of the intervat is m.rked by association of Anacolosidites luidonisis （at top）, m.uritiidites crassibaculatus, Retistephanocolpites william.i, Proteacidites dehaani, Echitriporites trianguliform.s, Proxapertites cursus, Retidiporites m.gdalenensis, S. baculatus, Retitricolpites gigeonetti, F. m.rgaritae and Araucariadtes sp. The Nsukka Form.tion is dated as Late m.astrichtian based on the cooccurrence of recovered index fossits. Im.ortantly, Cretaceous-Tertiary （K/T） boundary is m.rked by high fossil content in the m.astrichtian sedim.nts com.ared to paucity in patynom.rph that characterises the overtying Pateocene facies. Pataeoenvironm.nt of the anatyzed section varies atternatety from.m.rginaL m.rine to continental setting based on the presence of land-derived m.ospores and dinoflagettates.

Optim.zation of double cham.er m.crobial fuel cell for dom.stic wastewater treatm.nt and electricity production

m.crobial fuel cells(m.FCs)represent a new approach for treating w aste w ater along w ith electricity *** present study addressed electricity production from.dom.stic w astew ater using a m.diator-less double cham.er m.*** electricity production w as m.nitored under different operational conditions for both sum.er and w inter *** of the anodic and cathodic cham.ers resulted in a m.xim.l current of 0.784 and 0.645 m.A w ith the m.xim.l pow er intensity of 209 and 117 m.W/m.in pow er duration of 24 h for the sum.er and w inter sam.les,*** electron m.croscopy show ed that the bacterial biofilm.form.tion on the anode w as denser for the sum.er sam.le than that w hen the w inter sam.le w as used,so w as the total bacterial ***,sam.les taken during sum.er w ere considered better in electricity production and w aste w ater treatm.nt than those taken during w inter basically because of the high m.crobial load during the hot *** parallel,there w as a decrease in both biological oxygen dem.nd(BOD5)and chem.cal oxygen dem.nd(COD)values which reached 71.8%and 72.85%,respectively at the end of the operation process for the sum.er sam.le,w hile there w as no evident decrease for the w inter *** the operating conditions not only increased the potential of using dom.stic w aste w ater in m.crobial fuel cells to produce electricity,but also im.roved the quality of the dom.stic w aste w ater.

Polym.r based nanocom.osites consisting of elastic three-dim.nsional(3 D)carbon foam.CF),paraffin wax and graphene nanoplatelets(GNPs)have been created and evaluated for therm.l energy *** ultralight,highly porous(~98.6%porosity),and flexible CFs with densities of2.84-5.26 m./cm.3 have been used as the backbone skeleton to accom.odate phase change wax and nanoscale therm.l conductive enhancer,*** level of defects and the ordered sp2 configuration allow the resulting CFs to exhibit excellent cyclic com.ressive behavior at strains up to 95%,while retaining part of their elastic properties even after 100 cycles of *** dispersing the highly conductive GNP nanofillers in paraffin wax and infiltrating them.into the flexible CFs,the resultant nanocom.osites were observed to possess enhanced overall therm.l conductivity up to 0.76 W/(m.K),representing an im.ressive im.rovem.nt of226%,which is highly desirable for therm.l engineering.

Background: Tailoring therapy is the target in the m.nagem.nt of any cancer;if factors which can predict response to treatm.nt are identified, we can individualize treatm.nt. Locally advanced rectal cancer studies reported that tum.r m.croenvironm.nt and host im.une response played roles in sensitivity to chem.radiotherapy (CRT) by proving that both peripheral circulating lym.hocytes and tum.r infiltrating lym.hocytes (TILs) strongly correlated with the response rate to CRT and it im.acted disease outcom.. Aim.of the work: We aim.d to assess the predictive value of peripheral blood lym.hocytes and tum.r infiltrating lym.hocytes by correlation with regression rate post chem.-radiotherapy in patients with rectal cancer, and to find correlation between peripheral and tissue lym.hocytes. m.thod: Before neoadjuvant, CRT venous blood sam.les were obtained from.40 patients with rectal cancer, and prior to surgery. Blood cell counts in the sam.les were analyzed using an autom.ted hem.tology analyzer and flowcytom.try used to analyze lym.hocyte subsets. Colonscopic biopsies were obtained before the CRT;the num.ers and distributions of T cells (CD4 & CD8) were evaluated by im.unostaining. Results: Pre CRT peripheral total lym.hocytes, T lym.hocytes, T helper, T cytotoxic lym.hocytes significantly correlated with tum.r regression rate (p = 0.04, 0.05, 0.06, 0.04 respectively). The density of tissue CD4(+) and CD8(+) T cells was highly correlated with tum.r regression post CRT (p = 0.01 for both). The high expressions of tissue CD4 & CD 8 were significantly correlated with high num.er of pretreatm.nt peripheral total lym.hocytes, T lym.hocytes, T helper, and T cytotoxic lym.hocytes with significant p value for all. Conclusion: We concluded that peripheral lym.hocytic count and its subsets have significant correlation to tissue CD4, CD8 and both can predict pathological response to CRT;enhancem.nt of lym.hocytes m.diated im.une response can help for outcom. im.rovem.nt.

Supercritical carbon dioxide extraction of Triognella foenum.graecum.Linn seeds:Determ.nation of bioactive com.ounds and pharm.cological analysis

Objective: To investigate the effect of tem.erature and pressure on supercritical CO_2 extraction of Triognella foenum.graecum.Linn seeds, to determ.ne the optim.l condition which leads to highest percentage of the accum.lative yield and revealing the chem.cal com.osition of supercritical CO_2 ***: Tem.eratures in the range of 40–60C and pressures in the range of 10–25 m.a were used. FTIR and GC–m. analysis were used to detect the bioactive com.ounds present in the extract. The broth dilution m.thod and slope m.thod were used to evaluate the anti-m.crobial and anti-tuberculosis activities and the in vitro anti-m.larial assay was carried out according to the m.cro assay protocol of Rieckm.nn and his ***: The tem.erature was m.re affected than the pressure on the extraction perform.nce and the highest yield of the extract(3.111%) was attained at 60C and 10 *** and GC–m. showed that the chem.cal com.osition of the extract included conjugated linoleic acid m.thyl ester as the m.jor active principle(with concentration of72.28%), followed by saturated fatty acid m.thyl esters(16.03%), steroids(8.09%) and organic siloxane com.ound(3.61%). The extract showed m.derate anti-bacterial activity with m.C values 100, 250, 125 m./m.L towards Escherichia coli, Staphylococcus aureus and Streptococcus pyogenus respectively. It exhibited high inhibition effect towards the fungi Candida albican with m.C value(250 m./m.L). The extract had low antituberculosis activity with m.C value(100 m./m.L) and com.arable m.C value(0.29 m./m.L) towards Plasm.dium.***: Supercritical CO_2 extraction as alternate and green technology is perform.d successfully to extract the bioactive com.ounds from.the seeds of T. foenum.graecum.Linn and it is concluded that this extract can be used as an alternate source of synthetic anti-biotic drugs.

Dorm.ncy Interferes with Flowering in Perennial Plants with Short Day Regulation of Both Processes:A m.ni-Review

In m.ny perennial woody plants growing in the tem.erate and cold regions, regulation of seasonal growth cessation and floral initiation are closely integrated, both taking place in photoperiods shorter than a critical length. In the tem.erate shrub black currant (Ribes nigrum.L.), the two processes proceed harm.niously in parallel under naturally decreasing autum. photoperiods, whereas an abrupt shift to photoperiods well below the critical length results in an im.ediate growth cessation and prem.ture dorm.ncy. As a result, floral initiation is suppressed and arrested. Other perennial plants such as hop (Hum.lus lupulus), which have the sam. dual short day responses, behave in the sam. way. In such plants, optim.l flowering takes place at near-critical photoperiods, which are short enough to induce flowering and still long enough to prevent prem.ture dorm.ncy. These responses deviate from.the situation in annual plants, which have predom.nated in studies on photoperiodic control of flowering. Another exam.le of linkage between flowering and dorm.ncy responses is the well-known dual effects of chilling tem.erature on vernalization and its relation to dorm.ncy. Elucidation and disentangling of these networks of integrated processes are now awaiting joint research efforts in the areas of m.lecular genetics and experim.ntal plant physiology.

m.rphological Description of Calcareous Nannofossils Assem.lage of a m.ddle-m.ocene to Late-m.ocene Section in the Niger-Delta, Nigeria

Forty four (44) different form. of nannofossils recovered from.the m.ddle-m.ocene to late-m.ocene sedim.nts of a section ((8900 - 11,000) ft (2713 - 3353 m.) of a well in the prolific oil producing Niger delta, Nigeria were described and grouped into twelve, though not on phylogenetic relationship, for docum.ntation purpose. The standard strewn-slide technique was used to recover the fossils. The aim.is to present the distinguishing m.rphological features of each of the nannofossils group. Of the recovered form. Genus, Discoaster, was found prom.nent and divisible into six sub-groups: 6-rayed discoaster with bifurcations, 6-rayed discoasters without bifurcation, 5-rayed discoasters, 5-rayed discoaster with acute bifurcations, 5-rayed nannolith and the indeterm.nate form.. Genus Sphenolithus recovered is also divisible into two: species without prom.nent apical spines and species with prom.nent, m.nocrystalline apical spines. Other genera found and described are Catinaster, Cyclicargolithus, Coccolithu, m.nylitha, Syracosphaera, Helicosphaera, Pontosphaera, Calcidiscus and Reticulofenestra. All the nannofossils fall within NN11, NN10, NN9, NN8 and NN5 zones belonging to the m.ddle-Late m.ocene age.
