Urea nitro.en secreted fro. blo.d to.rumen is a crucial facto. shaping the symbio.ic relatio.ship between ho.t ruminants and their micro.ial *** o. urea acro.s rumen epithelia is facilitated by urea transpo.ter B(UT-B),but the lo.g-term regulatio. o. these pro.eins remains *** ruminal functio. develo.s o.er a perio. o. mo.ths,the develo.ing rumen is an excellent mo.el with which to.investigate this *** rumen epithelium samples o. calves fro. birth to.96 d o. age,this study perfo.med immuno.o.alizatio. studies to.lo.alize and semi-quantify UT-B pro.ein *** expected,preliminary experiments co.firmed that ruminal mo.o.arbo.ylate transpo.ter 1(MCT1)sho.t chain fatty acid transpo.ter pro.ein abundance increased with age(Po. revealed that ruminal UT-B was present in the first few weeks o. life and initially detected in the baso.ateral membrane o. stratum basale *** the next 2 mo.ths,UT-B staining spread to.o.her epithelial layers and semi-quantificatio. indicated that UT-B abundance significantly increased with age(Po. 6).These changes were in line with the develo.ment o. rumen functio. after the advent o. so.id feed intake and weaning,exhibiting a similar pattern to.bo.h MCT1 transpo.ters and papillae *** study therefo.e co.firmed age-dependent changes o. in situ ruminal UT-B pro.ein,adding to.o.r understanding o. the lo.g-term regulatio. o. ruminal urea transpo.ters.

Fo.r sites were selected in a salt marsh in the Bahia Blanca Estuary （Argentina）：（1） lo. marsh （flo.ded by the tide twice daily） vegetated by S. alterniflo.a; （2） no.-vegetated lo. marsh; （3） high marsh （flo.ded o.ly in spring tides） vegetated by S. alterniflo.a; （4） no.-vegetated high marsh. The pH and Eh were measured in sediments, while disso.ved nutrients （ammo.ium, nitrate, nitrite and pho.phate） and particulate o.ganic matter （Po.） were determined in po.e water, pH （6.2-8.7） was o.ly affected by vegetatio. in lo. areas. Eh （fro. -300 to.250 mV） was lo.er at lo. sites than at high o.es; in the latter, the values were higher in the no.-vegetated sediments. The Po. co.centratio. was greater in the high marsh than in the lo. marsh, with no.effect o. vegetatio.. Ammo.ium was the mo.t abundant nitro.en nutrient species in po.e water, except in the no.-vegetated high marsh where nitrate co.centratio. was higher. All nitro.en nutrients were affected by bo.h flo.ding and vegetatio.. Pho.phate was always present in po.e water at all sites thro.gho.t the year and its co.centratio. varied within narro. limits, with no.effect o. flo.ding and greater values always at no.-vegetated sites. o.r results sho.ed that the variability o. the po.e water co.po.itio. within the marsh is greater than the tempo.al variatio., meaning that bo.h tidal flo.ding and vegetatio. are impo.tant in the dynamics o. nutrients and o.ganic matter in the sediment po.e water.
