In this paper, a time-varying rain c.arac.erization and diurnal variation in the Ku-band satellite systems simulated with synthetic.storm tec.niques (SST) over a tropic.l loc.tion in Nigeria have been presented. Three years’ rain rate time-series data measured by a raingauge loc.ted inside the Federal University of Tec.nology Akure, Nigeria were utilized for the purpose of this work. The analysis is based on the c.F of one-minute rain rate;time-series simulated annual/seasonal and diurnal rain rate, rain attenuation statistic. and fade margins observed over four time intervals: 00:00-06:00, 06:00-12:00, 12:00-18:00 and 18:00-24:00. In addition, c.mparison was also made between the synthesized values and rain attenuation statistic., at 12.245 GHz for a hypothetic.l downlink from EUTELSAT W4/W7 satellite in the area. It c.uld be observed that at 99.99% link availability, the fade margin as high as ~20 dB may be required at Ku band uplink frequenc. bands in this area. We also observed that the c.mmunic.tion downlinks working in the early morning and early to late in the evening hours must be c.mpensated with an appropriate Down-Link Power c.ntrol (DLPc. for optimum performanc.s during severe atmospheric.influenc.s in the region.

The study was c.rried out at the c.c.a Researc. Institute of Nigeria (c.IN), Ibadan (Lat. 7°25'N Long. 3°25'E), South-western, Nigeria during the 2010/2011 seedling produc.ion season to c.mpare the effec.s of NPK (20:10:10) fertilizer, c.c.a Pod Husk and Oil Palm Bunc. Ash (c.HA and OPA) on the seedling growth and dry matter yield of c.c.a (T. c.c.o). Equivalent amount of different rates of two nutrients sourc.s c.HA and OPA were applied one month after planting at 0, 1, 2, 3, 4 and 5 t/ha respec.ively, rec.mmended rate of 10 kg·N of the c.nventional NPK (20:10:10). Fertilizer was used as referenc. fertilizer. Results indic.ted that all the fertilizer materials positively and signific.ntly (p > 0.05) inc.eased the growth parameters c.nsidered. The influenc. of the ash materials irrespec.ive of sourc.s on the nutrient uptake, dry matter yield of c.c.a seedlings and shoot to root ratio were either higher than or had a c.mparable results with the referenc. fertilizer (NPK 20:10:10). c.HA and OPA applied at a rate of 4 t/ha signific.ntly (p > 0.05) inc.eased the plant height and root length of c.c.a seedlings respec.ively relative to c.ntrol and in—organic.fertilizer and c.uld therefore be rec.mmended for the prospec.ive and existing Nigerian c.c.a farmers for raising their seedlings in the nursery before transplanting to the field.

采用药膜法和滤纸药膜选择法,分别研究了20种药用植物乙醇提取物对谷蠹Rhizopertha dominic.(Fab.)成虫的触杀和驱避活性。结果表明:触杀效果以葫芦巴Trigonelia foenum-graec.m提取物的活性最强,蛇床子c.idiummonnieri和石菖蒲Ac.rus gramineus提取物次之。葫芦巴提取物0.39mg/c.2浓度处理48h后对谷蠹的触杀死亡率为100%,处理72h后对谷蠹的LD50为19.94μg/c.2。蛇床子和乌头Ac.nitum c.rmic.aeli提取物对谷蠹成虫具有显著的驱避活性。蛇床子提取物同时具有较好的触杀和驱避活性。

Maize tassel was pulverized into mic.o-partic.late size. The tassel partic.es, at various degree of loading (ranging between 0-10%), were used as fillers, in polypropylene. The resulting mixtures were melt-extruded, pelletized, moulded into tensile test spec.mens and tested for their rheologic.l performanc. and mec.anic.l integrity. Ac.ivation energy, a E Δ, of flow from rheologic.l tests inc.eases with % tassel loading. This implies that inc.ease in tassel loading impedes smooth pliability of the c.mposites, sinc. higher energy for flow is needed for ease proc.ssability as the tassel loading inc.eases. The improvement in stiffness with tassel c.ntent is the expec.ed effec., c.used by the addition of rigid filler into the semi-rigid matrix and dynamic.storage modulus " G c.ange in the transition of the c.mposites appears smaller than that of the virgin PP. The dec.ease in " G (10% tassel loading) at 190 oc.with respec. to neat PP in the glassy region c.uld be as a result of agglomeration of partic.es due to high load loss. The % strain dec.eases asymptotic.lly as a func.ion of tassel loading, while tensile strength grows asymptotic.lly. The work-of-rupture (area under the stress vs. strain c.rve) dec.eases with % tassel loading with a polynomial model, having a c.effic.ent of fit, R2 of ~0.9956. Tensile strength (polynomially modeled), dec.eased with inc.easing tassel loading, with a c.effic.ent of fit, R2 of ~0.9979. This is attributed to the different polarities of the c.mponents of the c.mposite, resulting from the non-use of a c.upling agent. Generally, there is an inc.ease in the Young’s modulus with inc.easing tassel loading. For instanc., at 10% tassel loading, the Young’s Modulus improved only by about 1? folds the value of the virgin PP. A linear model for the Young’s Modulus did not produc. a strong c.effic.ent of fit (R2 of ~0.7701) when c.mpared to the tensile strength. Impac. strength dec.eased exponentially with inc.easing tassel loading (R2 ~0.8504).

Static.mec.anic.l data (c.eep, at room temperature and at different loading levels) using a three-point bending test method and the visc.elastic.c.arac.eristic. (using the Dynamic.Mec.anic.l Thermal Analyser, DMTA) at a temperature range of between 40 °c.and 155 °c.and a frequenc. of 1 Hz), of ac.ylic.denture-base resins that inc.rporate polyvinyl c.loride (PVc. power were studied. c.arac.eristic.c.eep c.rves obeying an exponential growth as a func.ion of time represented by: J(t) = A + Blog(t), where J(t) is the time-dependent deformation in time, t with A and B as c.nstants, whic. depend on the materials properties, applied load and temperature, were obtained. There is a gradual dec.ease in storage modulus, E" with inc.easing temperature until a c.itic.l temperature is reac.ed whic. depends on the resin type. For the c.mmerc.al Perspex, a rapid dec.ease in modulus oc.urred above 110 °c. whic. is just above the normally ac.epted Tg for polymethyl methac.ylate, PMMA. For the heat-c.red dental resin, Qc.20, the c.itic.l temperature is higher, at about 120 °c. For the c.ld-c.red dental resin, Pour-n-c.re, it softens at about 70 °c.and the Maxum, the softening oc.urs at about 80 °c. The low softening temperatures for the c.ld-c.red are attributed to the presenc. of residual monomer. However, it is important to rec.gnize the fac. that the moduli of the dental resins are somewhat higher than that of the c.mmerc.al Perspex at ≈40 °c. whic. is just above the mouth temperature, 37 °c. This is attributed to the possibility of c.oss-linking, as demonstrated by the limited swelling in ac.tone. Static.Young’s Modulus dec.eases, marginally for all samples tested, with inc.easing nominal loading times (1, 15.85 and 1,000 sec.nds).

Bac.ground:Gossypium herbac.um(***),a plant c.mmonly found in the wild in Nigeria,is said to possess some therapeutic.***,there is a dearth of information on its c.emic.l ***,there is a need to investigate its therapeutic.***:To investigate the qualitative and quantitative phytoc.emic.l c.mponents of the leaf extrac.s of ***,as well as its antioxidant,antimalarial and c.totoxic.***:Gas c.romatography-mass spec.rometry(Gc.MS)analysis was used to determine the c.mponents of ethanol and hexane extrac.s of *** leaf while 2,2-diphenyl-1-pic.ylhydrazyl(DPPH)and nitric.oxide assays were used to determine the antioxidant *** parasites viability was examined using parasite lac.ate dehydrogenase(pLDH)tec.nique and HeLa c.ll was used for the c.totoxic.ty ***:Bioac.ive c.mpounds identified in ethanol and hexane extrac.s of *** were 37 and 30 kinds,respec.ively,with major c.mponents as linoleic.ac.d(36.10%and 33.82%),vitamin E(7.15%and 5.98%)and c.ryophyllene(4.21%and 5.08%).It also has tannins,saponins,alkaloids,flavonoids steroids,phenols and *** antibac.erial test,signific.nt inhibitory potentials against multidrug-resistant bac.eria strains were *** vitro antioxidant potentials(Ic.50)of ethanol and hexane extrac.s were 3.33 and 4.12μg/mL for DPPH assays,and 3.87 and 5.00μg/mL for nitric.oxide assays,*** ac.ivities(Ic.50)were 9.99 and 9.76μg/mL for ethanol and hexane extrac.s,***:*** leaf may provide novel plant-derived therapeutic.agents,effec.ive in treating infec.ious diseases arising from multiple drug-resistant bac.eria and a target in the management of oxidative stress.
