Effect of functional composite coating developed via sulphate and chloride process parameter on the UNS G10150 steel for structural and wear mitigation in defence application

The major engineering challenge of materials in defence technologies is the vulnerability of based metals to structural and wears deformation in service. In this paper, structural formation, mechanical and thermal stability behavior of developed composite coating of Zn-30 Al-7%Ti/Sn chloride bath and Zn-30 Al-7%Ti/Sn sulphate bath was investigated and compared to provide mitigation against failure. The thermal ageing property was done for 2 h at 600C via isothermal furnace. The structural, interfacial effect and stability behaviors of the co-deposited alloys were evaluated using scanning electron microscope equipped with energy dispersive spectrometer(SEM/EDS), atomic force microscope(AFM) and Xray diffractometer(XRD). The hardness and wear properties of the deposited coatings were examined with diamond base micro-hardness tester and reciprocating sliding tester respectively. The result shows that Zn-30 Al-7%Ti/Sn sulphate co-deposition contributed to increase hardness and wear resistance than Zn-30 Al-7%Ti/Sn chloride bath alloy. The stable crystal growth and significant performance of Zn-30 Al-7%Ti/Sn sulphate are link to the intermetallic phase hybrid of Zn Al, Zn4 Ti Al2, Zn3 Al Ti. Besides, it was observed that Zn-30 Al-7%Ti/Sn sulphate has excellent thermomechanical stability at harsh temperature,due to the deposition of Sn/Ti on steel; leading to formation of super-hard interface. However, it was established that co-deposition of mild steel with Zn-30 Al-7%Ti/Sn in sulphate bath significantly improved the structural and wear performance. It was shown that the hardness and wear of the developed composite Zn-30 Al-7%Ti/Sn is increased by about 80% compared to as received sample and about 25% compared with Zn-30 Al-7%Ti/Sn chloride coating developed. Anti-Corrosion and Tribo-Mechanical Properties of Co-deposited Zn–SnO_2 Composite Coating

Zn-SnO2 composite coatings were prepared by direct potential using electrolytic co-deposition technique from sulfate solution. The effect of Zn2＋ and SnO2 concentrations in deposited bath on the mechanical properties and mor- phological characteristics of the composite coatings were examined. The characterizations of the sample were analyzed using scanning electron microscopy couple with energy dispersive spectroscopy （SEM/EDS）, X-ray diffraction （XRD） and atomic force microscopy （AFM）. The electrochemical degradation behavior of the samples in 3.65 wt.% NaCl solution was studied using potentiodynamic polarization technique and characterized by high-resolution optical microscope. From all the fabricated composite coatings, obvious diffraction peaks were observed with Zn-7Sn-S-0.3V film with Zn2Sn7, Sn, Zn2Sn5 and Zn phases, confirming the presence and formation of Zn-SnO2 coating. The XRD pattern shows that the presences of SnO2 particle remarkably play a major role in the precipitation and orientation of the alloy matrix. From the SEM/EDS and AFM results, the deposits show that composite particle and proper bath composition have strong influence on the microstructure. An enhanced corrosion resistance was attained as a result of the induced particles.

Improvements of wear and corrosion properties are essential characteristic in engineering application. A study was made on the structure, electro-oxidation and properties of fabricated Zn-Al-SnO 2-Ti O2（Zn-Al-Sn-Ti） thin films using electrodeposition technique from chloride bath. The microstructural studies were performed by scanning electron microscopy with attached energy dispersive spectrometer（SEM-EDS）, optical microscopy（OPM） and X-ray diffractogram（XRD）. The electrochemical oxidation and erosion behavior in 3.65% Na Cl medium were studied by potentiodynamic polarization technique and characterized by atomic force microscopy（AFM）. The hardness and wear behavior of the electrodeposited film were performed by high diamond dura scan microhardness tester and CERT UMT-2 reciprocating sliding machine. It was found that a successful co-deposition of composite and particle were attained. Homogeneous imbedded grain structure distribution and fine refinement of crystal with improved micromechanical behavior was achieved. The corrosion resistance, hardness and wear stability resistance of the fabricated quaternary films improved significantly in all varied process parameter.

The present work focused on corrosion inhibition of AA6063 type Al-Mg-Si alloy in sodium chloride （NaCI） solution with a silicon carbide inhibitor, using the potentiodynamic electrochemical method. The aluminium alloy surface morphology was examined, in the as-received and as-corroded in the un-inhibited state, with scanning electron microscopy equipped with energy dispersive spectroscopy （SEM-EDS）. The results obtained via linear polarization indicated a high corrosion potential for the unprotected as-received alloy. Equally, inhibition efficiency as high as 98.82% at 10.0 g/v silicon carbide addition was obtained with increased polarization resistance fRy）, while the current density reduced significantly for inhibited samples compared to the un-inhibited aluminium alloy. The adsorption mechanism of the inhibitor aluminium alloy follows the Langmuir adsorption isotherm. This shows that the corrosion rate of aluminium alloy with silicon carbide in NaCI environment decreased significantly with addition of the inhibitor.

Objective:To investigate the ameliorative role of Tetrapleura tetraplera(Schum and Thonn)Taub(***)leaf in hyperglycemia with associated conditions like oxidative stress,kidney damage and disorders in lipid ***:Five groups of five rats each intraperitoneally received the following treatment schedules for 7 d:untreated normal control,untreated alloxan-diabetic control,diabetic treated with glibenclamide,normal rats treated with extract(50 mg/kg)and diabetic rats treated with the *** were made for fasting blood sugar,body weight changes,malondialdehyde,aspartate aminotransferase,alanine aminotransferase,bilirubin,superoxide dismutase,catalase,lipid profile,packed cell volume,hemoglobin,urea and creatinine in all the ***:Whereas the untreated diabetic rats showed a significant decrease(P<0.05)in packed cell volume,superoxide dismutase,catalase and high-density lipoprotein-cholesterol with a concomitant increase in the levels of malondialdehyde,fasting blood sugar,aspartate aminotransferase,alanine aminotransferase,bilirubin,urea and creatinine,administration of methanolic extract of *** leaf or glibenclamide alleviated these altered parameters in the treated ***:Methanolic extract of *** leaves possesses a potent capacity for treatment of diabetes and the accompanying complications,including oxidative stress and hyperlipidemia.

Prediction of Facial Height, Width, and Ratio from Thumbprints Ridge Count and its Possible Applications

The fingerprints and face recognition are two biometric processes that comprise methods for uniquely recognizing humans based on certain number of intrinsic physical or behavioral *** objectives of the study were to predict the facial height(FH),facial width,and ratios from thumbprints ridge count and its possible *** was a cross-sectional study.A total of 457 participants were recruited.A fingerprint live scanner was used to capture the plain *** facial photograph was captured using a digital ***’s correlation analysis was used for the relationship between thumbprint ridge density and facial linear ***‑wise linear multiple regression analysis was used to predict facial distances from thumbprint ridge *** result showed that in males the right ulnar ridge count correlates negatively with lower facial width(LFW),upper facial width/upper FH(UFW/UFH),lower FH/FH(LFH/FH),and positively with UFH and UFW/*** right and left proximal ridge counts correlate with LFW and UFH,*** males,the right ulnar ridge count predicts LFW,UFW/LFW,UFW/UFH,and LFH/*** upper face height I,LFW,height of lower third of the face,UFW/LFW was predicted by right radial ridge ***,height of lower third of the face,and LFH/FH were predicted from left ulnar ridge count whereas left proximal ridge count predicted *** females only,the special upper face height I was predicted by right ulnar ridge *** conclusion,thumbprint ridge counts can be used to predict FH,width,ratios among Hausa *** possible application of fingerprints in facial characterization for used in human biology,paleodemography,and forensic science was demonstrated.

Evaluation of phytochemical properties and in-vitro antibacterial activity of the aqueous extracts of leaf,seed and root of Abrus precatorius Linn. against Salmonella and Shigella

Objective:To investigate the phytochemical components of Abrus precatorius(***) and the in-vitro susceptibility of Salmonella typhi and Shigella dysenteriae to the aqueous extracts of *** leaf,seed and ***:The leaf,seed and root of *** were collected and homogenized separately after drying at 40℃ for seven days in hot-air *** aqueous extracts of each of the parts were prepared and subjected to phytochemical *** of 400,300,200,100 mg/mL,of each of the extracts were used for broth dilution in minimum inhibitory concentration(MIC) determination against clinical isolates of Salmonella typhi and Shigella dysenteriae,while 50,40,30,20,and 10 mg/mL dilutions were used for the agar diffusion test and 100 mg/mL and 10 mg/mL of gentamycin were used as controls for broth dilution in MIC determination and agar diffusion test,***:Qualitative study reveals that tannin,saponins,alkaloids,flavonoids,terpenoids,steroids and phenols were present in all of the plant *** leaf has the highest quantities of tannin and *** root generally showed the lowest quantity of all the *** pathogens were susceptible to aqueous extracts of the leaf,stem and root of *** at 50 mg/*** concentrations of 40,30 and 20 mg/mL,all the aqueous extracts of *** showed variation in MIC,but produced no minimum bactericide effect upon *** were variations in diameter of zone of inhibition against the organisms at lower ***:These findings suggest that *** is a valuable source of phytochemicals with promising antibacterial *** this bioactivity,*** could be probed further for toxicity,and to obtain some novel antibacterial molecules.

The microstructural effects of aqueous extract of Garcinia kola(Linn) on the hippocampus and cerebellum of malnourished mice

Objective:To assess the neuroprotective effects of aqueous extract of Garcinia kola on neurotoxin administered malnourished mice adopting histological ***:The study was carried out using thirty-two adult malnourished mice which were randomly assigned into four groups(n=8):A,B,C and *** A served as control,while the other groups served as the experimental *** in group A were fed malnourished diet ad libitum and given water *** in group B were administered with 3-Nitropropionic acid(3-NP)(neurotoxin)only at 20 rag/kg body weight,group C were given only Garcinia kola extracts,and group D were pre-treated with Garcinia kola extracts at 200 mg/kg for seven days prior to administration of neurotoxin at 20 mg/kg body *** three days of neurotoxins administration in the relevant groups,the brains were excised and fixed in formal calcium for histological ***:The study showed that hippocampal and cerebellar neurons of animals in group B exhibited some cellular degeneration and blood vessel blockage,which were not seen in groups A,C and *** violet staining was least intense in group B than in groups A,C and *** the fact that animals in group D has equal administration of 3-Nitropropionic acid concentration,there were no traces of neural degeneration as it was evidenced in group ***:It is concluded that Garcinia kola has protective effects on the neurons of the hippocampus and cerebellum of malnourished mice.

Possible Bornu Basin Hydrocarbon Habitat—A Review

An attempt is made in this article to examine and assess the possible petroleum habitat in the Bornu Basin, which is the Nigerian portion of the Mega-Chad Basin that has been found to host oil and gas in commercial quantities in Niger, Chad and Cameroon. The presence of three of the fundamental geological factors (source rock, reservoir rock and seal/trap) for commercial hydrocarbon accumulation was assessed in the light of existing information. Available geochemical information reveals that the shales of the Bima, Gongila and Fika Formations in the Bornu Basin contain sufficient organic matter for hydrocarbon generation. Limited existing geochemical data suggest that the quantity and quality of the organic matter in the shales vary widely with the TOC of most samples ranging from 0.54 wt% - 1.25 wt% and the HI from 11 - 173.80 mg/g in intervals with Tmax in the range of 365°C - 519°C. In addition, the kerogen type is predominantly type III with minor type II, thus suggesting a predominant gas prone basin. Possible reservoir rocks occur as sand/sandstone beds within the Bima, Gombe, and Kerri-Kerri, as well the Gongila Formation which also contains much shale and limestone. Both stratigraphic and structural trapping conditions exist in the Bornu Basin. The structural traps were presumably formed during the widespread Santonian tectonic inversion that affected the entire Mega-Chad Basin. It is suggested that deeper drilling into the sands and sandstone of the untested Bima Formation that could host hydrocarbon of commercial quantities, as evidenced by the discoveries at deeper depths in the neighbouring Termit Basin, was desirable.
