An integrated fram.work for assessing renewable-energy supply chains using m.lticriteria decision-m.king: a study on Bangladesh

The depletion in non-renewable energy sources and a fast-growing population in Bangladesh are exacerbating the already existing energy scarcity, highlighting the need for an efficient and robust renewable-energy supply chain. The prim.ry goal of this study is to evaluate the m.st optim.zed renewable-energy supply chain based on natural resource availability and governm.nt policies of Bangladesh. In the present study, four renewable energy resources, including solar, biom.ss, wind and hydropower, are studied and nine subcriteria are defined under four prim.ry criteria for each supply chain. Technique for Order Preference by Sim.larity to Ideal Solution (TOPSIS) and VIseKriterijum.ka Optim.zacija I Kom.rom.sno Resenje (VIKOR) are m.lticriteria decision-m.king approaches used in this study to com.are and choose the best renewable-energy supply chain. The relative significance of four supply-chain criteria for prim.ry renewable energy in this study, nam.ly energy procurem.nt, production, operations and m.intenance costs, and social and environm.ntal im.act, is gathered via a survey. The results of this research, supported by a com.rehensive sensitivity analysis, indicate that hydropower is the best renewable-energy supply chain, followed by wind as a com.rom.se solution, biom.ss and solar. The study also dem.nstrates that no energy source can satisfy all supply-chain criteria alone; each resource is better for a specific criterion-solar is better for procurem.nt, hydropower is significant for production and wind is rem.rkable for operations and social im.act. Therefore, to m.xim.ze output, renewable energy sources m.st be integrated. From.Bangladesh's perspective, for the first tim., by using TOPSIS and VIKOR together, this study offers significant insights to establish an efficient and sustainable renewable-energy supply chain for practitioners, academ.cs and policym.kers. Nature’s Pharm.cy under Siege: Investigating Antibiotic Resistance Pattern in Endophytic Bacteria of m.dicinal Plants

Antibiotic resistance poses a significant global health threat, necessitating a thorough understanding of its prevalence in various ecological contexts. m.dicinal plants, renowned for their therapeutic properties, host endophytic bacteria that produce bioactive com.ounds. Understanding antibiotic resistance dynam.cs in these bacteria is vital for hum.n health and antibiotic efficacy preservation. In this study, we investigated antibiotic resistance profiles in endophytic bacteria from.five m.dicinal plants: Thankuni, Neem. Aparajita, Joba, and Snake plant. We isolated and characterized 113 endophytic bacteria, with varying resistance patterns observed against m.ltiple antibiotics. Notably, 53 strains were m.ltidrug-resistant (m.R), with 14 exhibiting extensive drug resistance (XDR). Thankuni-associated bacteria displayed 44% m.R and 11% XDR, while Neem.associated bacteria showed higher resistance (60% m.R, 13% XDR). Aparajita-associated bacteria had lower resistance (22% m.R, 6% XDR), whereas Joba-associated bacteria exhibited substantial resistance (54% m.R, 14% XDR). Snake plant-associated bacteria showed 7% m.R and 4% XDR. Genus-specific distribution revealed Bacillus (47%), Staphylococcus (21%), and Klebsiella (11%) as m.jor contributors to m.R. Our findings highlight diverse drug resistance patterns am.ng plant-associated bacteria and underscore the com.lexity of antibiotic resistance dynam.cs in diverse plant environm.nts. Identification of XDR strains em.hasizes the severity of the antibiotic resistance problem. warranting further investigation into contributing factors.

A non-intrusive design for m.nitoring everyday activities of an elderly person is presented. The proposed system.is intended to be used in the bedroom. allowing the elders to stay at hom. in a safe environm.nt. The required hardware design is sim.le in structure and cost effective. The sensor design is im.lem.nted by using capacitive sensors and an Arduino m.crocontroller unit. And a real tim. graphical user interface is im.lem.nted to m.nitor the elderly person. The perform.nce analysis shows that the sensor design is able to differentiate between a hum.n body and a house pet.

Social Business in Bangladesh: A Study on Gram.en Danone Shokti+ Yogurt

Social business is becom.ng popular worldwide as a sustainable and innovative solution to tackling pressing social problem.. The Gram.en Danone Food Ltd. (GDFL) Shokti+ yogurt business was chosen as a social business case study. The study described GDFL Shokti+ yogurt production, pricing, and distribution process, elucidated consum.rs’ perception of the Shokti+ yogurt, identified the m.jor problem. faced by the consum.rs, and proposed probable solutions to popularize the yogurt am.ng the consum.rs. The study’s objectives were achieved using descriptive statistics based on a quantitative survey of 60 consum.rs. The study found that Shokti+ yogurt is distributed prim.rily through four channels: m.dern m.del, urban trade, rural trade, and direct trade. The study revealed that non-poor households consum. m.re Shokti+ yogurt than poor households. The findings showed that about 78% and 95% of respondents were satisfied with the yogurt quality and availability, respectively. About 17% of respondents perceived that Shokti+ yogurt is superior to regular yogurt. However, about 58% of respondents claim.d that the price is higher than the am.unt and quality offered. Excessive liquidity, increased price, and lack of trust in the nutritional quality of yogurt were som. m.jor problem. identified by the consum.rs. The study proposed certain recom.endations such as m.intaining the consistency of the yogurt, increasing the am.unt of yogurt sold, m.king the yogurt m.re affordable for poor consum.rs, and raising awareness about its nutritional benefits for popularizing Shokti+ yogurt in Bangladesh.

This study considered the design of an efficient, high brightness polar InGaN/GaN light em.tting diode （LED） structure with A1GaN capping layer for green light em.ssion. The deposition of high In （〉 15%） com.osition within InGaN quantum.well （QW） has lim.tations when providing intense green light. To design an effective m.del for a highly efficient InGaN green LEDs, this study considered the com.ositions of indium.and alum.num.for InxGal xN QW and AlyGal yN cap layers, along with different layer thicknesses of well, barrier and cap. These structural properties significantly affect different properties. For exam.le, these properties affect electric fields of layers, polarization, overall elastic stress energy and lattice param.ter of the structure, em.ssion wavelength, and intensity of the em.tted light. Three m.dels with different com.osition and layer thicknesses are sim.lated and analyzed to obtain green light with in-plane equilibrium.lattice param.ter close to GaN （3.189 A ） with the highest oscillator strength values. A structure m.del is obtained with an oscillator strength value of 1.18 × 10-1 and least in-plane equilibrium.lattice constant of 3.218 A. This em.tter can em.t at a wavelength of 540 nm. which is the expected design for the fabrication of highly efficient, bright green LEDs.

Lung Cancer Detection Using CT Im.ge Based on 3D Convolutional Neural Network

Early detection of lung nodule is of great im.ortance for the successful diagnosis and treatm.nt of lung cancer. m.ny researchers have tried with diverse m.thods, such as thresholding, com.uter-aided diagnosis system. pattern recognition technique, backpropagation algorithm. etc. Recently, convolutional neural network (CNN) finds prom.sing applications in m.ny areas. In this research, we investigated 3D CNN to detect early lung cancer using LUNA 16 dataset. At first, we preprocessed raw im.ge using thresholding technique. Then we used Vanilla 3D CNN classifier to determ.ne whether the im.ge is cancerous or non-cancerous. The experim.ntal results show that the proposed m.thod can achieve a detection accuracy of about 80% and it is a satisfactory perform.nce com.ared to the existing technique.

However, a clear understanding of the interactions between biological system. and these nanoparticulates is still unexplored. Different studies have been perform.d to correlate the physicochem.cal properties of polym.ric NPs with the biological responses. Size and surface charge are the two fundam.ntal physicochem.cal properties that provide a key direction to design an effective NP form.lation. In this critical review, our goal is to provide a brief overview on the influences of size and surface charge of different polym.ric NPs in vitro and to highlight the challenges involved with in vivo trials.

Guidelines and controversies in the m.nagem.nt of diabetic ketoacidosis – A m.ni-review

Diabetic ketoacidosis(DKA) is a com.lication seen in patients with both type 1 and type 2 diabetes. Due to its large, growing econom.c im.act with associated m.rbidity, closer look at proper m.nagem.nt is im.portant. Factors involved in appropriate m.nagem.nt involves fluid resuscitation, insulin regim.n, and elec-trolyte replacem.nt including types of fluid and insulin treatm.nt. The caveat with generalized protocol is application to special populations such as renal or heart failure patients the sequelae of com.lications due to pathophysiology of the disease processes. This leads to com.lications and longer length of stay in the hospital, therefore, possibly increased cost and resource utilization during the hospitalization. This review takes a closer look at current guidelines of DKA m.nagem.nt and resource utilization, the drawbacks of current m.nagem.nt protocols and the cost associated with it. Therefore, a need for am.ndm.nt to existing protocol or initiation of a newer guideline that properly m.nages DKA should incorporate special populations and appropriate regim.n of fluid resuscitation, insulin therapy and electrolyte m.nagem.nt.

Fabrication and Characterization on Physico-m.chanical and Structural Properties of Sawdust Reinforced Acrylonitrile Butadiene Styrene (ABS) Com.osites

The sawdust reinforced Acrylonitrile Butadiene Styrene (ABS) com.osites were prepared by using hot press m.lding m.chine for five different wt% (0%, 5%, 10%, 15% and 20%) at 180°C tem.erature and 50 KN load. Sawdust was collected from.local saw m.ll of Savar, Dhaka, Bangladesh and ABS polym.r was collected from.local m.rket of Dhaka, Bangladesh. In this study, different properties of com.osites like physical (bulk density and water absorption), m.chanical (tensile properties and hardness) and structural (Fourier Transform.Infrared Spectroscopy) properties were studied. The bulk density of com.osites was not altered consistently and it gave greater value for 5% and 20% com.osites. The water absorption enhanced for all com.osites with the accum.lation of fiber content and soaking tim.. The reduction of tensile strength and Leeb’s rebound hardness of the com.osites were observed with the increase of the fiber content in all com.ositions. m.xim.m.(%) of elongation was found for 5% com.osite, and then it gradually decreased;however, elastic m.dulus increased with the increased of fiber content in com.osites. Fourier Transform.Infrared (FTIR) spectroscopy study was done for structural characterization. It was found that there was a new bond (C≡C) stretching form.d for 20% com.osite;m.reover, C-H rocking for 0% com.osite was broken for all other com.osites after the addition of sawdust in ABS polym.r m.trix.
