To expand the application of plasma spraying technique, TiO2 coatings were prepared using agglomerated anatase TiO2 powder to solve the environmental problems. The composition and photocatalytic activity of plasma sprayed TiO2 coatings were investigated systematically. The content of anatase TiO2 in the sprayed coatings was approximate to 7%- 15%, which was influenced by the melting state of TiO2 powder in plasma spraying process. The surface of sprayed coating was very rough and the arithmetical mean deviation of the surface profiles (Ra) was in the range of 5.7 - 8.8 μm. Under lower arc current, the surface of the coating became rougher. The anatase to rutile phase transformation temperature of agglomerated anatase TiO2 powder was approximate to 1 173 K. The TiO2 coating sprayed under the arc current of 400 A had good photocatalytic activity for the relative high content of anatase phase in it. It is concluded that the application of plasma spraying technique to environmental field has been developed.

This study is focused on the application of an effective fabrication method combining electrolytic in-process dressing(ELID) grinding and magnetic assisted polishing(MAP) to nano-precision mirror surface grinding on the optics glass-ceramic named Zerodure that is commonly used in precision optics components. The results show the variation of surface roughness after MAP processes utilizing Fe+CeO2, Fe+CeO2+diamond paste and Fe+diamond paste are applied to ELID ground surfaces. The MAP surface roughnesses for ELID ground surface roughnesses(Ra) of 52.1, 39.8 and 51.1 nm using #1200 grinding wheel are improved to 6.1, 4.6 and 1.9 nm, respectively. The surface roughness of MAP process using Fe+CeO2+diamond paste is superior to that using other processes. Moreover, it takes less than 10 min to conduct the MAP processes. The combined method suggested effectively reduces the working time to get the required surface qualities.

Ulcerative colitis and Crohn’s disease are the major phenotypes of the idiopathic inflammatory bowel disease (IBD), which afflicts millions of individuals throughout the world with debilitating symptoms, impairing function and quality of life. Current medications are aimed at reducing the symptoms or suppressing exacerbations. However, patients require life-long medications, and this can lead to drug dependency, loss of response together with adverse side effects. Indeed, drug side effects become additional morbidity factor in many patients on long-term medications. Nonetheless, the efficacy of anti-tumour necrosis factors (TNF)-α biologics has validated the role of inflammatory cytokines notably TNF-α in the exacerbation of IBD. However, inflammatory cytokines are released by patients’ own cellular elements including myeloid lineage leucocytes, which in patients with IBD are elevated with activation behaviour and prolonged survival. Accordingly, these leucocytes appear logical targets of therapy and can be depleted by adsorptive granulocyte/monocyte apheresis (GMA) with an Adacolumn. Based on this background, recently GMA has been applied to treat patients with IBD in Japan and in the European Union countries. Efficacy rates have been impressive as well as disappointing. In fact the clinical response to GMA seems to define the patients’ disease course, response to medications, duration of active disease, and severity at entry. The best responders have been first episode cases (up to 100%) followed by steroid naïve and patients with a short duration of active disease prior to GMA. Patients with deep ulcers together with extensive loss of the mucosal tissue and cases with a long duration of IBD refractory to existing medications are not likely to benefit from GMA. We established a new method to produce the spherical polyurethane beads which have narrower distribution of particle size. This narrower distribution was achieved by the polyurethane prepolymer which contains ketimine as a blocked chain-extending agent. Firstly, the prepolymer is dispersed into the aqueous solution containing surfactant. Secondaly, water comes into the inside of prepolymer as oil phase. Thirdly, ketimine is hydrolyzed to amine, and amine reacts with prepolymer immediately to be *** spherical polyurethane beads are very suitable for automotive interior parts especially for instrument panel cover sheet producing under the slush molding method, because of good process ability, excellent durability to the sunlight and mechanical properties at low temperature. Because of its ability to effectively suppress off-leakage current with its gate-around conffguration, the Si nanowire FET is considered to be the ultimate structure for ultra-small CMOS devices to the extent that the devices would be approaching their downsized limits. Recently, several experimental studies of Si nanowire FETs with on-currents much larger than those of planar MOSFETs have been published. Consequently, Si nanowire FETs are now gaining significant attention as the most promising candidate for mainstream CMOS devices in the 2020s. To enable the introduction of the Si nanowire FETs into integrated circuits, good compact models, which circuit designers can easily handle, are essential. However, it is a very challenging task to establish such a compact model, because the ID - VD characteristics of Si nanowire FETs are affected by the band structure of the nanowire, which is very sensitive to the nanowire diameter, cross-sectional shape, crystal orientation, mechanical stress and interface states. In this paper, the recent status of research on Si nanowire FETs in experimental and theoretical studies is described.

To elucidate the role of proton pump inhibitors (PPIs) in collagenous disease, direct effect of PPI on colonocytes was *** colitis is a common cause of non-bloody, watery diarrhea. Recently, there has been increasing focus on the use of proton PPIs as a risk factor for developing collagenous colitis. Mouse CT26 colonic cells were treated with PPI and/or PPI-induced alkaline media. Expression of fibrosis-associated genes was examined by RT-PCR. In human materials, collagen expression was examined by ***26 cells expressed a Na+-H+ exchanger gene (solute carrier family 9, member A2). Treatment with PPI and/or PPI-induced alkaline media caused growth inhibition and oxidative stress in CT26 cells. The treatment increased expression of fibrosis inducing factors, transforming growth factor β and fibroblast growth factor 2. The treatment also decreased expression of a negative regulator of collagen production, replication factor C1, resulting in increased expression of collagen types III and IV in association with lipid peroxide. In biopsy specimens from patients with collagenous colitis, type III and IV collagen were increased. Increase of type III collagen was more pronounced in PPI-associated collagenous colitis than in non-PPI-associated *** these findings, the reaction of colonocytes to PPI might participate in pathogenesis of collagenous colitis.
