A detailed parametric study is conducted on three-dimensional gas-solid multiphase flow characteristics in inertial separators via numerical simulation. The carrier phase is treated in the Eulerian frame, the particles are tracked in the Lagrangian frame, and particle-wall collision and particle-particle collision are considered. The inertial separators are made out of U-beam tube, arranged staggered .The separator has good performance for large particles and its compact structures make it easy to manufacture and install. The simulation is carried out in different inflow rate and provide the pressure losses in the separators, velocity field of gas phase, the trajectories of particles and the separation efficiency of separators. The result from this study not only shows the multiphase flow-dynamic characteristics of the separators, but also gives the relationship among the efficiency, structure and pressure losses of the separator. The comparison between the numerical simulation result and experimental data demonstrate the reliability of the numerical simulation.

Bulk ultrafine-grained(UFG) CoCrFeMnNi high-entropy alloy(hEA) with fully recrystallized microstructure was processed by cold rolling and annealing treatment. The high-cycle fatigue behaviors of the UFG hEA and a coarse-grained(CG) counterpart were investigated under fully reversed cyclic *** fatigue strength of the UFG hEA can be significantly enhanced by refining the grain size. however,no grain coarsening was observed in the UFG hEA during fatigue tests. Mechanisms for the superior mechanical properties of the UFG hEA were explored.

Experimental analysis of volatile liquid injection into a fluidized bed

Experiments were conducted on a lab-scale fluidized bed to study the distribution of liquid ethanol injected into fluidized catalyst particles. Electrical capacitance measurements were used to study the liquid distribution inside the bed, and a new method was developed to determine the liquid content inside fluidized beds of fluid catalytic cracking particles. The results shed light on the complex liquid injection region and reveal the strong effect of superficial gas velocity on liquid distribution inside the fluidized bed, which is also affected by the imbibition of liquid inside particle pores. Particle internal porosity was found to play a major role when the changing mass of liquid in the bed was monitored. The results also showed that the duration of liquid injection affected liquid-solid contact inside the bed and that liouid-solid mixin~ was not homogeneous durin~ the limited liouid injection time.

Effect of Nd^(3+) substitution on structural and magnetic properties of Mg-Cd ferrites synthesized by microwave sintering technique

Nd3＋ substituted spinel ferrites with formula MgxCd1-xNd0.03Fe1.97O4（x = 0.0.2,0.4,0.***.0.8 and 1.0）were prepared by oxalate co-precipitation method using novel microwave sintering technique. AR grade sulphates were used as starting chemicals. The samples were sintered at optimized power of 70 W for10 min in a microwave oven（800 W）. The structural analysis of these samples was done by using X-ray diffraction, scanning electron microscope and Fourier transform IR techniques. The XRD analysis of the synthesized ferrite confirms the formation of cubic spinel structure of ferrite. The influence of Nd3＋substitution on various structural parameters of Mg-Cd ferrites was reported. IR study indicates the spectra contain two intense absorption bands around 600 and 400 cm^（-1） in addition with four extra bands. The magnetic properties of all ferrites were studied by using a vibration sample *** crystallite and grain size dependant magnetic properties are observed. The composition Mg_（0.6）Cd_（0.4）Nd_（0.03）Fe_（1.97）O_4 has better magnetic properties that can be used in recording media. The fast synthesis of spinel ferrites is yielded due to use of the microwave sintering technique.

Luminescence characteristics of Dy^(3+) doped Gd_2O_3-CaO-SiO_2-B_2O_3 scintillating glasses

Glasses were prepared from the compositions of 25Gd_2O_3-10 CaO-10 SiO_2-（55–x）B_2O_3-xDy_2O_3（where x is 0.0 mol.%–1.0 mol.%） by the conventional melt-quenching technique at 1400 oC. The results demonstrated the increase in the glass density with respect to the increase in the doping concentrations of Dy_2O_3. Nine absorption bands were observed. The emission spectra of the developed glass showed two strong peaks at 577 nm（~4F_（9/2）→~6h_（13/2）） and 482 nm（~4F_（9/2）→~6h_（15/2））. The highest emission intensity was observed from the developed glass prepared at 0.4 mol.% of Dy_2O_3, as the efficient energy transfer took place from Gd^（3＋） to Dy^（3＋）. From the X-ray induced optical luminescence, the emission spectra were identical to those from PL measurements, but with the highest intensity observed from the glass quenched at 0.45 mol.% of Dy_2O_3. Finally, the integral scintillation efficiency of the developed glass was determined at 27% of that of the commercially available BGO crystal.

We present a rigorous theoretical model for the influence of the aperture in interferometric out-of-focus imaging. We investigate the role of this effect on the properties of speckle-like patterns generated by irregular, rough particles. Finally, we determine the conditions under which these patterns are no longer representative of particle size but of the aperture itself and the defocus parameter.

We report an experimental route for synthesizing perovskite-structured strontium titanate （SrTiO3） nanocubes using an alkali hydrothermal process at low temperatures without further heating. Furthermore, we studied the influence of heating time （at 180℃） on the crystallinity, morphology, and perovskite phase formation of SrTiO3. The SrTiO3 powder, which is formed via nanocube agglomeration, transforms into cubic particles with a particle size of 120--150 nm after 6 h of hydrothermal sintering. The crystallinity and percentage of the perovskite phase in the product increased with heating time. The cubic particles contained 31.24at% anatase TiO2 that originated fi＇om the precursor. By varying the weight ratio of anatase TiO2 used to react with the strontium salt precursor, we reduced the anatase-TiO2 content to 18.8at%. however, the average particle size increased when the anatase-TiO2 content decreased.

Liquid-liquid extraction and separation of total rare earth(RE) metals from polymetallic manganese nodule leaching solution

The study on the solvent extraction for quantitative and selective separation of total rare earth metals from the polymetallic nodule leach liquor was investigated. The typical leach liquor bearing 0. 094 g/L total rare earth, 0. 23 g/L Mn, 0.697 g/L Cu, 0.2 g/L Fe, 0.01 g/L Co and 0.735 g/L Ni was subjected to the removal iron content by precipitation method using Ca（oh）2 at ph 3.95, prior to solvent extraction of rare earth metals. Three different organo-phosphoric acid reagents（D2EhPA, PC88 A, Cyanex 272） were used to ascertain their performances and selectivity towards the loading of rare earth metals in presence of other base metals. Based on the results of eq. ph effect, the performances of above three extractants followed the order as： D2EhPA〉PC88A〉Cyanex 272. To ensure the absence of extraction of base metals（Cu, Co, Ni）, the eq. ph of the solution was optimized at the level of 2.21, though higher rare earth metal extraction efficiency was observed at higher eq. ph with either of the extractants. The complete process flow diagram for substantial recovery of total rare earth was developed using D2 EhPA. Extraction isotherm plot was constructed at A：O=12：1, 3-stages and phe=2.21, using 0.8 mol/L D2 EhPA and the predicted condition of this study was further confirmed by 6-Cycles Counter Current Simulation（CCS） study. The stripping of total rare earth from loaded organic phase（LO） was conducted using hCl solution. Mc-Cabe Thiele diagram study carried out at A：O=1：5 using 4 mol/L hCl showed that three theoretical stages were needed for quantitative stripping of total rare earth. The subsequent stripped solution resulted thus led to contain total rare earth of 5.6 g/L indicating a very high enrichment of total metals by solvent extraction（SX） process.
