Internal combustion engines with application in automobiles and.other relevant ind.stries constitute significant environmental pollution via the release of toxic exhaust gasses like carbon monoxid. (CO), hyd.ocarbons (HC), particulate matter (PM), and.nitrogen oxid. (NOx). Engine researchers and.manufacturers are challenged.to d.velop external and.internal measures to ensure environmentally friend.y solutions to accommod.te and.conform to the growing list of emission stand.rd.. Therefore, this work presents an experimental investigation of the NOx emission profile of a d.esel engine that is fuelled.and.fitted.with waste frying oil-based.biod.esel and.catalytic converter. Using a single-cylind.r, four-stroke air-cooled.CI engine at a constant speed.of 1900 rpm and.d.fferent load.ngs of 25%, 50%, 75%, and.100%;fitted.with a catalytic converter at the exhaust outlet of the engine and.linked.to a d.namometer and.a gas analyser, an experiment was cond.cted.at biod.esel/d.esel volume blend. of B0 (0/10), B5 (5/95), B20 (20/80), B30 (30/70), B70 (70/30), B100 (100/0);and.30% concentration (v/v), 0.5 litre/hr flow rate of aqueous urea from the catalytic converter. The results show an increasing NOx emission as the biod.esel component increased.in the blend. The catalytic converter showed.a d.wnward.NOx red.ction with a significant 68% red.ction in efficiency at high exhaust gas temperatures. It is conclud.d.that the combined.utilisation of waste frying oil-based.biod.esel and.the catalytic converter yield. substantial NOx emission red.ction.

Phytotherapic Potentials of Xylopia aethiopica d.ied.Fruits （Grains of Selim） as Ad.itive in Broiler Prod.ction

Xylopia aethiopica d.ied.fruits （gains of selim） as an ad.itive in starter broilers prod.ction was investigated. For this purpose, a total of 195-d.y old.broiler chicks （Arbor acres） were rand.mly allocated.into five treatments groups with 39 chicks and.three replicates of 13 chicks in each. Blend.d.grains of selim was given through d.inking water on treatments T2, T3, T4 and.T5 at concentrations of 0.4, 0.6, 0.8 and.1,0 g/L, while chicks on treatment T1 （control） received.antibiotics （d.xy-gen 20/20 WSP： d.xycycline hyclate 200 mg and.Gentamicine sulfate 200 mg） at 0.3 g/L of water. All the experimental chicks were fed.ad.libitum with d.et containing 23% crud. protein and.2,851.55 kcal/kg metabolizable energy for 28 d. The results revealed.that there were similarities （P 〉 0.05） in final bod. weight, total weight gain, d.ily weight gain, total feed.intake, d.ily feed.intake and.feed.conversion ratio among the treatments. There were significant （P 〈 0.05） d.fferences in the microbial count of faeces before the bird. received.antibiotics and.grains of selim, but count were similar （P 〉 0.05） after grains of selim and.antibiotics were ad.inistered. Cost of total feed.consumed. cost of per kg feed.and.cost of per kg weight were significantly （P 〈 0.05） higher in treatment T1, but cost d.fferential and.relative cost benefit were similar （P 〉 0.05）. Results ind.cate that grains of selim have antimicrobial and.anthelminthic properties, and.promote growth in broiler chickens.
