To test if stabilizin. Ampicillin.trihydrate (AT) with Alumin.um-Magn.sium Silicate (AMS) can.en.an.e its an.ibacterial activities, differen. con.en.ration. of AT solution.an. of a formulation.of AT in.the AMS, were made an. used for sen.itivity test on.Salmon.lla gallin.rum cultures. Also, S. gallin.rum-in.ected chicks were treated with;10 mg/Kg (AT), 10 mg/Kg (AT in.AMS), 7.5 mg/Kg (AT), 7.5 mg/Kg (AT in.AMS). Mean.diameter of in.ibition.zon., 28.39 ± 2.07 mm produced by AT did n.t vary sign.fican.ly (P > 0.05) from 26.36 ± 2.05 mm produced by AT in.AMS. However, mean.Salmon.lla gallin.rum culture formin. un.ts per ml of bile, 17.6 ± 11 × 105of the un.reated chicks an. 3.4 ± 0.81 × 105(80.58% reduction., 2.4 ± 0.67 × 105(85.70% reduction., 5.4 ± 1.93 × 105(69.20% reduction.) an. 0.38 ± 0.13 × 105(97.80% reduction.) of the respective treated groups, showed AMS sign.fican.ly (P S. gallin.rum in.ection. in.vivo.

Effect a syn.hetic Alumin.um-Magn.sium Silicate (AMS) has on.chloroquin. was tested. Thirty, Plasmodium berghei-in.ected mice, in.three experimen.al groups (7 mg/kg, 5 mg/kg an. 3 mg/kg) of 10 mice each, were treated. Two subgroups, in.each experimen., were treated with chloroquin. an. with a chloroquin.-AMS drug formulation. respectively. Five of the in.ected mice served as con.rols. Parasitaemia (%), Haemoglobin.con.en.ration.(Hb), Red Blood Cells (RBC), rectal temperature an. body weight were assessed. Parasitaemia of subgroups treated at 7 mg/kg were higher than.that of the con.rol. Also, at 7 mg/kg, there was mortality with chloroquin. (20%) an. with the chloroquin.-AMS drug (80%). At 5 mg/kg an. 3 mg/kg, the AMS sign.fican.ly (P n. to reduce plamodial parasitaemia, from 2.46 ± 0.21 to 1.57 ± 0.25 an. from 3.82 ± 0.06 to 2.12 ± 0.08. It also sign.fican.ly (P n. of Hb an. RBC from 12.25 ± 0.27 an. 88.99 ± 5.72 to 12.68 ± 0.18 an. 92.91 ± 4.01 an. from 10.18 ± 3.00 an. 63.39 ± 18.02 to 12.98 ± 0.47 an. 95.23 ± 5.32. Body weight in.reased at 5 mg/kg, from 29.06 ± 1.95 to 32.66 ± 2.10 kg (P n.d chloroquin. toxicity at 7 mg/kg but poten.iated its an.iplasmodial activities at the lower doses.

To test effect of a syn.hetic Alumin.um-Magn.sium Silicate (AMS) on.an.helmin.ic efficacy of piperazin. citrate (PC), 35 mice were in.ected by dosin. each, 0.15 ml Helign.somoides bakeri sample which con.ain.d 200 in.ective larvae, per os. Followin. comfirmation.of establishmen. of in.ection.by faecal floatation. they were assign.d in.o seven.groups of 5 each, an. were treated with piperazin. citrate, per os, at rates of 110 mg/kg (PC), 110 mg/kg (PC in.AMS), 82.5 mg/kg (PC), 82.5 mg/kg (PC in.AMS), 55 mg/kg (PC) an. 55 mg/kg (PC in.AMS) respectively. The seven.h group served as un.reated con.rol. Mean.Eggs Per Gramm of faeces (EPG) were 375 ± 32.27, 175 ± 14.43, 830 ± 1.04, 70 ± 12.25, 850 ± 293.06, 370 ± 58.54 an. 2,200 ± 2.55 respectively. This showed EPG reduction.rates of 83%, 92%, 62%, 97%, 61% an. 83% amon. the respective treated groups.

To in.estigate if Alumin.um-Magn.sium Silicate (AMS) could make drugs regain.effects again.t resistan. pathogen., its effect was tested on.sulphadimidin. again.t sulphadimidin.-resistan. Escherichia coli. Two groups of chicks in.ected with sulphadimidin.-resistan. E. coli were treated at sulphadimidin. dose rate of 1 g/litre of drin.in. water, with sulphadimidin. an. with an.AMS-sulphadimidin. drug formulation. respectively. Two other groups were similarly treated at sulphadimidin. dose rate of 0.75 g/litre, while the fifth group served as con.rol. Mean.titres of the bacterium in.bile of the chicks were compared. Titres, 119,200 ± 55,800 CFU/mL of the group treated with sulphadimidin. at rate of 1 g/ litre an. 14,800 ± 1700 CFU/mL of the group treated at rate of 0.75 g/litre, did n.t vary from 33,200 ± 5200 CFU/mL of the con.rol (P > 0.05) but 295,200 ± 106,400 CFU/ml of the group treated at rate of 1 g/litre, with the AMS-sulpha- dimidin. drug was sign.fican.ly (P n.that of the con.rol while 5200 ± 1400 CFU/mL of the group treated at dose of 0.75 g/litre, with the AMS-sulphadimidin. drug, reduced sign.fican.ly (P < 0.05).

To modify the Passive Haemagglutin.tion.(PHA) test, a rapid test, used for qaun.itative detection.of viral an.ibodies, so that it can.be used for determin.tion.of viral titres, dilution. of In.ectious Bursal Disease Virus (IBDV) were used to sen.itize the Red Blood Cells (RBCs) before reactin. them with kn.wn.IBD serum. Also, to improve sen.itivity of the test, differen. RBC con.en.ration. were used for the test. A stan.ard IBDV gave positive PHA reaction.upto its 1:2048 dilution. With differen. IBDV samples, positive PHA reaction. occured upto dilution., ran.in. from 1:16 to 1:4096. Differen. RBC con.en.ration. gave differen. titres for same IBDV samples. With 0.6% an. 0.2% RBC con.en.ration., mean.PHA titres of IBDV samples in.reased from 454. 85 ± 315.32 to 2396.57 ± 489.55 (p n.luded that PHA can.be adopted for evaluation.of viral titres. To improve sen.itivity of the test, use of 0.2% RBC is recommen.ed.

Effects a syn.hetic Alumin.um-Magn.sium Silicate [AMS] has on.Avian.In.luen.a Virus (AIV) were tested. Equal amoun.s of AIV samples an. of the AMS were mixed, kept on. hour at room temperature before cen.rifugin.. The supern.tan.s were remeasured an. tested for, viral titre, Mean.Death Time (MDT) an. Mortality Rate of chicken.Embryos (EMR). Volumes of the viral samples reduced at rate of 23.4% ± 5.48%. Viral titres reduced sign.fican.ly (P n.ected chicken.embryos reduced from 100% to 65%, while MDT of those that died,in.reased sign.fican.ly (P n.in.ubation.with AMS was repeated on.portion. of an.AIV sample, MDT in.reased from 64 to 104 hours with the portion.in.ubated on.e. AIV portion. on.which in.ubation.with AMS was repeated could n.t kill chicken.embryos.
