Background Periodontal disease is closely related to type 2 diabetes and is an important complication of *** study aimed to investigate the effect of periodontal treatment on levels of blood glucose （Glu） and glycosylated hemoglobin （HbA1c） among elderly patients with type 2 diabetes and periodontal *** A total of 107 elderly patients with type 2 diabetes and periodontal disease were selected and divided into two groups according to their HbA1c levels. Group A was a well-controlled diabetic group and group B was *** probing depth （PD）, attachment loss （AL）, the value of Glu and HbA1c were analyzed before periodontal treatment and 4 months *** There was a significant difference in periodontal condition between groups A and B （P 〈0.01）. The periodontal condition for both groups was significantly （P〈0.01） improved after periodontal therapy. The effect of treatment in group A was more pronounced than group B, and the difference was significant （P 〈0.01）. After the periodontal treatment, Glu and HbA1c were reduced significantly in both groups （P 〈0.05）.Conclusions Periodontal condition is related to the control of Glu level among elderly patients with type 2 diabetes and periodontal disease. Periodontal treatment can effectively reduce the level of Glu and HbA1c as well as improve the periodontal condition in elderly type-2 diabetes patients with periodontal disease.

This work investigates the problem of detecting gravitational wave(GW)events based on simulated damped sinusoid signals contaminated with white Gaussian *** is treated as a classifcation problem with one class for the interesting *** proposed scheme consists of the following two successive steps:decomposing the data using a wavelet packet,representing the GW signal and noise using the derived decomposition clficients;and determining the existence of any GW event using a convolutional neural network(CNN)with a logistic regression output *** characteristic of this work is its comprehensive investigations on CNN structure,detection window width,data resolution,wavelet packet decomposition and detection window overlap *** simulat ion experiments show excellent performances for reliable detection of signals with a range of GW model parameters and signal-to-noise *** we use a simple waveform model in this study,we expect the method to be particularly valuable when the potential GW shapes are too complex to be charncterized with a termplate bank.

The low-temperature wet oxidation behavior of semi-dry desulfurization ash from iron ore sintering flue gas in ammonium citrate solution was investigated for efficiently utilizing the low-quality desulfurization ash. The effects of the ammonium citrate concentration, oxidation temperature, solid/liquid ratio, and oxidation time on the wet oxidation behavior of desulfurization ash were studied. Simultaneously, the oxidation mechanism of desulfurization ash was revealed by means of X-ray diffraction, Zeta electric resistance, and X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS) analysis. Under the optimal conditions with ammonium citrate, the oxidation ratio of CaSO_(3) was up to the maximum value (98.49%), while that of CaSO_(3) was only 8.92% without ammonium citrate. Zeta electric resistance and XPS results indicate that the dissolution process of CaSO_(3) could be significantly promoted by complexation derived from the ammonium citrate hydrolysis. As a result, the oxidation process of CaSO_(3) was transformed from particle oxidation to SO_(3)^(2−) ion oxidation, realizing the rapid transformation of desulfurization ash from CaSO_(3) to CaSO_(4) at low temperature. It provides a reference for the application of semi-dry desulfurization ash and contributes to sustainable management for semi-dry desulfurization ash.

Subdivision and age of the Yanchang Formation and the Middle/Upper Triassic boundary in Ordos Basin, North China

The Yanchang Formation is extensively developed in the Ordos Basin and its surrounding regions. As one of the best terrestrial Triassic sequences in China and the major oil-gas bearing formations in the Ordos Basin, its age determination and stratigraphic assignment are important in geological survey and oil-gas exploration. It had been attributed to the Late Triassic and regarded as the typical representative of the Upper Triassic in northern China for a long time, although some scholars had already proposed that the lower part of this formation should be of the Middle Triassic age in the mid-late 20 th century. In this paper, we suggest that the lower and middle parts of the Yanchang Formation should be of the Ladinian and the bottom possibly belongs to the late Anisian of the Middle Triassic, mainly based on new fossils found in it and high resolution radiometric dating results. The main source rocks, namely the oil shales and mudstones of the Chang-7, are of the Ladinian Age. The upper part of the Yanchang Formation, namely the Chang-6 and the above parts, belongs to the Late Triassic. The uppermost of the Triassic is missed in most parts of the Ordos Basin. The Middle-Upper Triassic Series boundary lies in the Yanchang Formation, equivalent to the boundary between Chang-7 and Chang-6. The Ladinian is an important palaeoenvironmental turning point in the Ordos Basin. Palaeoenvironmental changes in the basin are coincidence with that of the Sichuan Basin and the main tectonic movement of the Qinling Mountains. It indicates that tectonic activities of the Qinling Mountains are related to the big palaeoenvironmental changes in both the Ordos and Sichuan Basins, which are caused by the same structural dynamic system during the Ladinian.

Exposure to explosive shockwave often leads to blast-induced traumatic brain injury in military and civilian *** ears are most often damaged following exposure to *** there is an association between tympanic membrane perforation and TBI in blast exposure victims,little is known about how and to what extent blast energy is transmitted to the central nervous system via the external ear *** present study investigated whether exposure to blasts directed through the ear canal causes brain injury in longEvans *** were exposed to a single blast(0–30 pounds per square inch(psi))through the ear canal,and brain injury was evaluated by histological and behavioral outcomes at multiple *** exposure not only caused tympanic membrane perforation but also produced substantial neuropathological changes in the brain,including increased expression of c-Fos,induction of a profound chronic neuroinflammatory response,and apoptosis of *** blast-induced injury was not limited only to the brainstem most proximal to the source of the blast,but also affected the forebrain including the hippocampus,amygdala and the habenula,which are all involved in cognitive ***,the animals exhibited long-term neurological deficits,including signs of anxiety in open field tests 2 months following blast exposure,and impaired learning and memory in an 8-arm maze 12 months following blast *** results suggest that the unprotected ear canal provides a locus for blast waves to cause *** study was approved by the Institutional Animal Care and Use Committee at the University of Mississippi Medical Center(Animal protocol#0932 E,approval date:September 30,2016 and 0932 F,approval date:September 27,2019).

The Chinese Small Telescope Array （CSTAR） is the first Chinese astronomical instrument on the Antarctic ice cap. The low temperature and low pressure testing of the data acquisition system was carried out in a laboratory refrigerator and on the 4500 m Pamirs high plateau, respectively. The results from the final four nights of test observations demonstrated that CSTAR was ready for operation at Dome A, Antarctica. In this paper, we present a description of CSTAR and the performance derived from the test observations.

Designing metal compounds based on their structure and chemical composition is essential in achieving desirable performance in methane oxidation,because of the synergistic effect between different metal ***,a bimetallic ru-Pt catalyst on TiO_(2) support(ruPt-O/TiO_(2)) was prepared by in situ reduction followed by calcination in *** with monometallic catalysts(ru-O/TiO_(2) and Pt-O/TiO_(2)),the synergistic effect of mixed metals endowed bimetallic catalysts with excellent stability and outstanding performance in methane oxidation,with a reaction rate of 13.9×10^(-5)mol^(-1)_(CH_(4))·g^(-1)_(ru+Pt)·s^(-1)at 303℃.The varied characterization results revealed that among the bimetallic catalysts,ruO_(2)was epitaxially grown on the TiO_(2) substrate owing to lattice matching between them,and part of the PtO_(x) adhered to the ruO_(2) surface,in addition to a single PtO_(x) nanoparticle with 4 nm in ***,Pt mainly existed in the form of Pt2+and Pt4+and a small amount of zero valence in the bimetallic catalyst,prompting the adsorption and activation of methane as the first and rate-controlling step for CH_(4) *** importantly,the ruO_(2) species provided additional oxygen species to facilitate the redox cycle of the PtO_(x) *** study opens a new route for structurally designing promising catalysts for CH4oxidation.

Intestinal macrophages play crucial roles in both intestinal inflammation and immune homeostasis. They can adopt two distinct phenotypes, primarily determined by environmental cues. These phenotypes encompass the classically activated pro-inflammatory M1 phenotype, as well as the alternatively activated anti-inflammatory M2 phenotype. In regular conditions, intestinal macrophages serve to shield the gut from inflammatory harm. However, when a combination of genetic and environmental elements influences the polarization of these macrophages, it can result in an M1/M2 macrophage activation imbalance, subsequently leading to a loss of control over intestinal inflammation. This shift transforms normal inflammatory responses into pathological damage within the intestines. In patients with ulcerative colitis-associated colorectal cancer (UC-CRC), disorders related to intestinal inflammation are closely correlated with an imbalance in the polarization of intestinal M1/M2 macrophages. Therefore, reinstating the equilibrium in M1/M2 macrophage polarization could potentially serve as an effective approach to the prevention and treatment of UC-CRC. This paper aims to scrutinize the clinical evidence regarding Chinese medicine (CM) in the treatment of UC-CRC, the pivotal role of macrophage polarization in UC-CRC pathogenesis, and the potential mechanisms through which CM regulates macrophage polarization to address UC-CRC. our objective is to offer fresh perspectives for clinical application, fundamental research, and pharmaceutical advancement in UC-CRC.

DEAR EDITOR,The Tibetan macaque(Macaca thibetana)is an endemic species in China belonging to the sinica group in the genus *** the genus,it is the largest in body size and has a wide geographic distribution,with a population size second only to rhesus macaques(***).Here,using PacBio long-read sequencing and Hi-C technology,we assembled the first chromosome-level genome of the Tibetan macaque,with a size of 2.82 Gb,contig N50 of 48.75 Mb,and scaffold N50 of 150.62 Mb,anchored to 22 chromosomes.

由于快速反射镜(FSM)系统在不同应用场合下需要不同有效带宽和闭环带宽,本文基于压电FSM控制系统建立系统模型,通过分析系统光轴抖动情况,对FSM控制算法进行了优化。首先,测得系统闭环Bode图,利用模拟退火算法求取系统传递函数;然后,结合辨识模型与模拟退火算法,提出了一种满足不同应用场合的全局最优PID控制器。最后,通过阶跃响应测试验证辨识模型的正确性,通过闭环实验测试验证最优控制器的有效性。结果表明,辨识模型与实际系统在中低频段符合得很好,阶跃响应曲线基本一致。采用最优控制器控制的系统有效带宽为35 Hz,闭环带宽为70Hz,跟踪精度提高了47%,基本满足当前实验环境下对FSM性能的要求。提出的系统显示良好的低频跟随能力和高频干扰抑制能力,跟踪精度高,器件损耗小。
