Joining of hybrid AA6063-6SiCp-3Grp composite and AISI1030 steel by friction welding

Joining of metals and aluminium hybrid metal matrix composites has significant applications in aviation,ship building and automotive industries. In the present work, investigation is carried out on friction Welding of AISI 1030 steel and hybrid AA6063-6 SiC_p-3 Gr_pcomposite, that are difficult to weld by fusion welding technique. Silicon carbide and graphite particle reinforced AA6063 matrix hybrid composite was developed successfully using stir casting method and the joining feasibility of AISI1030 steel with AA6063-6 SiC_p-3 Gr_p hybrid composite was tried out by friction stud welding technique. During friction stage of welding process, the particulates(SiC & Graphite) used for reinforcement, tend to increase the viscosity and lead to improper mixing of matrix and reinforcement. This eventually results in lower strength in dissimilar joints. To overcome this difficulty AA1100 interlayer is used while joining hybrid composite to AISI 1030 steel. Experimentation was carried out using Taguchi based design of experiments(DOE) technique. Multiple regression methods were applied to understand the relationship between process parameters of the friction stud welding process. Micro structural examination reveals three separate zones namely fully plasticized zone, partially deformed zone and unaffected base material zone. Ultra fine dynamically recrystallized grains of about 341 nm were observed at the fully plasticized zone. EDX analysis confirms the presence of intermetallic compound fe_2 Al_5 at the joint interface. According to the experimental analysis using DOE, rotational speed and interlayer sheet thickness contribute about 39% and 36% respectively in determining the impact strength of the welded joints. It is found that joining with 0.5 mm interlayer sheet provides efficient joints. Developed regression model could be used to predict the axial shortening distance and impact strength of the welded joint with reasonable accuracy.

people’s perception and socioeconomic determinants of soil erosion:A case study of Samanalawewa watershed, Sri Lanka

Though soil erosion is an important concern in Sri Lanka, there is a dearth of baseline information on soil erosion in many ofits watersheds, which obstructs monitoring of soil erosion and mitigating its effects. In order to assess soil erosion in a critical watershed and to identify its determinants, the Samanalawewa watershed, which contains one of the main hydropower generating reservoirs in Sri Lanka, was selected for this study. Remote-sensing (RS) and geographic information system (GIS) based modeling as well as field experiments were employed to assess and map soil erosion rates. Results indicated that the current rate of soil erosion ranges from 0 to 289 t/ha/yr, and that the average rate of soil erosion has been declining from 20 to 4 t/ha/yr over a period from 1986 to 2008. The current rate of soil erosion is, however, still about 14 to 33 times greater than the natural soil generation rate. Socioeconomic factors and peoples’ perception of soil erosion and soil conservation measures were examined using data collected through a household survey. Multiple regression analysis with eighteen covariates of socioeconomic characteristics yielded eleven socioeconomic variables, viz. household size, farm labor, education, land tenure, conservation cost, training, committee membership, professional competencies, income, distance, and financial capital as the predictor variables of soil erosion. farmers identified improper soil and crop management practices as the major causes of erosion. The adoption of conservation measures, their effectiveness, and their impact on ecosystem services were also examined.

Lethal toxicity of industrial detergent on bottom dwelling sentinels

We used fresh and brackish water shrimp (Desmoscaris trispinosa and palaemonetes africanus), in sediment bioassays to assess the toxicity of an industrial detergent containing high levels of anionic surfactant (linear alkylbenzene sulphonate (LAS)). The Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development (OECD), # 218 direct sediment toxicity assessment was employed. The organisms were exposed to different concentrations (31.25, 62.5, 125, 250 and 500 mg/kg) of the chemical (neatex) in replicate treatments. percentage mortality was measured as the ecological endpoint. Mean mortality and estimated lethal concentration LC 50 values varied with species type, concentration and exposure duration. The statistical variation in the observed mean mortality of the test organisms in the chemical and the control treatment shows that mortality may be induced by the effect of the chemicals. The lethal concentration (LC 50 ) was significantly different at levels of p for the fresh and brackish water experiments. Consequently, assessment of water and sediment quality as a result of chemical pollutants was necessary for protecting some of the more sensitive benthic invertebrates representing the major proportion of the diet of many species in the niger Delta ecological zone.

The applicatio n of nano particles as selective drug delivery platforms arises as one the most promising therapeutic strategies in the biomedical field. Such systems can encapsulate drugs, prevent its premature degradation, transport and promote the drugs specific delivery to the target site. Among the different nanostructures, gold-core mesoporous silica shell (AuMSS) nanorods have been one of the most explored due to their unique physical and chemical properties. The mesoporous silica biocompatibility, high surface area that can be easily functionalized, tubular pores that can store the drugs, conjugated with the intrinsic capacity of gold nanorod to absorb near-infrared radiation, allows the combination of hyperthermia (i.e., photothermal effect) with drug delivery, making them a nanoplatforms with a huge potential for cancer therapy. nevertheless, the successful applicati on of AuMSS nanoparticles as an effective can cer nano medicine is hindered by the uncon trolled release of the therapeutic payloads, limited blood circulation time and unfavorable pharmacokinetics. In this review, an overview of the modificati ons performed to improve the AuMSS nano rods applicati on in nanom edicine is provided, highlighting the practical approaches that enhaneed the AuMSS nanorods targeting, responsiveness to different stimuli, and blood circulation time. further, the basics of AuMSS nano rods syn thesis procedures, gen eral properties, and its applicati on in can cer therapy are also described.

Development of Zeff diagnostic system on the Globus-M（M2） tokamak and the first experimental results

Studying the behavior of effective ion charge Zeff, which indicates the degree of pollution of plasma and can provide valuable information about many processes taking place in plasma, mechanisms of the releasing impurities, transport, etc is of great interest. This paper describes the development of the Zeff diagnostic system for the Globus-M2 tokamak. The effective ion charge is determined on the basis of measurements of the bremsstrahlung intensity and Thomson scattering data-Te and ne profiles. The results of the first Zeff measurements obtained for several discharges on the Globus-M tokamak are presented in this paper. The results have been validated by simulation using the ASTRA transport code for the same discharges, and it has demonstrated a good agreement with the experimental results.

Severe Acute Hepatitis of Unknown Origin in Children: What Do We Know Today?

In May 2022, the UK International Health Regulations national focal point notified World Health Organization of 176 cases of severe acute hepatitis of unknown etiology in children under 10 years of age. from that moment on, cases of severe acute hepatitis of unknown origin in children began to be reported in several countries. As of June 17, 2022, a total of 991 cases had been reported in 35 countries worldwide, 50 children needed a liver transplant and 28 patients died. According to information published by ECDC, 449 cases have been detected in 21 EU countries. The children were between 1 month and 16 years of age. Adenovirus was detected in 62.2% of the analyzed samples. So far, the cause of these cases is unknown and many hypotheses remain open, but hepatitis A-E viruses and COVID-19 vaccines have been ruled out. A possible hypothesis has been published to explain the cause of these cases of severe hepatitis, according to which it could be a consequence of adenovirus infection in the intestine in healthy children previously infected with SARS-CoV-2. no other clear epidemiological risk factors have been identified to date. Thus, at this time, the etiology of the current cases of hepatitis remains under active investigation.
