Self-assembly of nitrogen-doped TiO_(2) with exposed {001} facets on a graphene scaffold as photo-active hybrid nanostructures for reduction of carbon dioxide to methane

Tailored synthesis of well-defined anatase TiO_(2)-based crystals with exposed{001}facets has stimulated incessant research interest worldwide due to their scientific and technological ***,anatase nitrogen-doped TiO_(2)(N-TiO_(2))nanoparticles with exposed{001}facets deposited on the graphene(GR)sheets(N-TiO_(2)-001/GR)were synthesized for the first time via a one-step solvothermal synthetic route using NH4F as the morphology-controlling *** experimental results exemplified that GR was uniformly covered with anatase N-TiO_(2) nanoparticles(10-17 nm),exposing the{001}*** percentage of exposed{001}facets in the N-TiO_(2)-001/GR nanocomposites was calculated to be ca.35%.Also,a red shift in the absorption edge and a strong absorption in the visible light range were observed due to the formation of Ti-O-c bonds,resulting in the successful narrowing of the band gap from 3.23 to 2.9 *** photocatalytic activities of the as-prepared photocatalysts were evaluated for cO_(2) reduction to produce cH,in the presence of water vapor under ambient temperature and atmospheric pressure using a low-power 15 w energy-saving daylight lamp as the visible light source--in contrast to the most commonly employed high-power xenon lamps--which rendered the process economically and practically *** all the studied photocatalysts,the N-TiO_(2)-001/GR nanocomposites exhibited the greatest cH4 yield of 3.70 p-mol'gcatalyst 1,approxi-mately 11-fold higher activity than the TiO_(2)-*** enhancement of photocatalyfic performance was ascribed to the effective charge anti-recombination of graphene,high absorption of visible light region relative to the{101}*** high catalytic activity of{001}facets.

The melting mechanisms of Pt-based multimetallic nanoparticles(NPs)are important to help determine their optimal melting *** understand the melting and coalescence behaviors of heterogeneous NPs(Pd-Pt NPs)with various sizes and compositions,molecular dynamics(MD)simulation was *** MD results for larger Pd-Pt NPs with an effective diameter of4.6-7.8 nm show that PtPd alloy can form at Pd/Pt interface before Pd NP melted completely,while for Pt-core/Pdshell NP and Pd-core/Pt-shell NP,PtPd alloy formed only after Pd portion melted *** smaller Pd-Pt NPs with an effective diameter of 2.5-4.0 nm,PdPt alloy is not formed until both Pd and Pt NPs melted ***,the coalescence process of Pd-Pt NPs depends on the melting temperature of Pt NP when Pt composition is higher than 20 at%.Furthermore,the melting mechanisms of Pd/Pt/Ir trimetallic NPs are investigated.A two-step melting process occurs in Pd-Pt-Ir NPs and Ir-core/Ptshell/Pd-shell NP,and the melting sequence of Pd-core/Ptshell/Ir-shell NP and Pt-core/Pd-shell/Ir-shell NP is different from Pd/Pt bimetallic NPs.

An improved wind speed algorithm for “Jason-1” altimeter under tropical cyclone conditions

Rain effect and lack of in situ validation data are two main causes of tropical cyclone wind retrieval errors. The National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration＇s climate Prediction center Morphing technique （cMORPH） rain rate is introduced to a match-up dataset and then put into a rain correction model to remove rain effects on ＂Jason-1＂ normalized radar cross section （NRcS）; Hurricane Research Division （HRD） wind sPeed, which integrates all available surface weather observations, is used to substitute in situ data for establishing this relationship with ＂Jason-l＂ NRcS. Then, an improved ＂Jason-l＂ wind retrieval algorithm under tropical cyclone conditions is proposed. Seven tropical cyclones from 2003 to 2010 are studied to validate the new algorithm. The experimental results indicate that the standard deviation of this algorithm at c-band and Ku-band is 1.99 and 2.75 m/s respectively, which is better than the existing algorithms. In addition, the c-band algorithm is more suitable for sea surface wind retrieval than Ku-band under tropical cyclone conditions.

A new series of Schiff base esters, 4-（dimethylamino）benzylidene-4＇-alkanoyloxyanilines containing even number of carbons at the end group of the molecules （cn-1H2n-1cOO, n = 6, 8, 10, 12, 14, 16, 18） were synthesized. we report the charge-changing cross sections(σ_(cc))of 24 p-shell nuclides on both hydrogen and carbon at about 900A MeV,of which^(8,9)Li,^(10–12)Be,^(10,14,15)B,^(14,15,17–22)N and^(16)O on hydrogen and^(8,9)Li on carbon are for the first *** from the data set,we found a new and robust relationship between the scaling factor of the Glauber model calculations and the separation energies of the nuclei of interest on both *** allows us to deduce proton radii(R_p)for the first time from the cross sections on *** identical R_p values are deduced from both target data for the neutron-rich carbon isotopes;however,the R_p from the hydrogen target is systematically smaller in the neutron-rich nitrogen *** calls for further experimental and theoretical investigations.

Bacterial microbiome of coptotermes curvignathus （Isoptera： Rhinotermitidae） reflects the coevolution of species and dietary pattern

coptotermes curvignathus Holmgren is capable of feeding on living trees. This ability is attributed to their effective digestive system that is furnished by the termite＇s own cellulolytic enzymes and cooperative enzymes produced by their gut microbes. In this study, the identity of an array of diverse microbes residing in the gut of c. curvignathus was revealed by sequencing the near-full-length 16S rRNA genes. A total of 154 bacterial phylotypes were found. The Bacteroidetes was the most abundant phylum and accounted for about 65% of the gut microbial profile. This is followed by Firmicutes, Actinobacteria, Spirochetes, Proteobacteria, TM7, Deferribacteres, Planctomycetes, Ferrucomicrobia, and Termite Group 1. Based on the phylogenetic study, this symbiosis can be a result of long coevolution of gut enterotypes with the phylogenic distribution, strong selection pressure in the gut, and other speculative pressures that determine bacterial biome to follow. The phylogenetic distribution of cloned rRNA genes in the bacterial domain that was considerably different from other termite reflects the strong selection pressures in the gut where a proportional composition of gut microbiome of c. curvignathus has established. The selection pressures could be linked to the unique diet preference of c. curvignathus that profoundly feeds on living trees. The delicate gut microbiome composition may provide available nutrients to the host as well as potential protection against opportunistic pathogen.

Since the first discovery of solar-driven water splitting catalyzed by TiO_(2) semiconductors,extensive research works have been devoted over the ***,the design of a photocatalyst with dual redox potential is of prominent interest to fully utilize both photogenerated electrons and holes in the redox *** all,the coproduction of H_(2) and O_(2) from water using metal-free carbon nitride(g-c_(3)N_(4))has been viewed as a rising star in this ***,the hole-mediated oxidation reaction is commonly recognized as the rate-determining step,which drastically leads to poor overall water splitting *** top of that,rapid recombination and undesirable back reaction appeared as one of the challenging parts in overall water *** this review,the up-to-date advances in modified g-c_(3)N_(4)-based photocatalysts toward efficient overall water splitting are summarized,which are mainly classified into structural and defect engineering,single-atom catalysis,cocatalyst loading,and heterojunction *** review also addresses the underlying idea and concept to tackle the aforementioned problem with the use of emerging modification strategies,hence serving as the guiding star for future *** the outstanding breakthrough thus far,critical recommendations related to g-c_(3)N_(4) photocatalytic systems are prospected to pave the way toward the implementation in the practical energy production process.

Aims Non-structural carbohydrates(NScs)are plant storage compounds used for metabolism,transport,osmoregulation and regrowth following the loss of plant *** in conditions suitable for optimal growth,plants continue to store *** storage may be due to passive accumulation from sink-inhibited growth or active reserves that come at the expense of *** former pathway implies that NScs may be a by-product of sink limitation,while the latter suggests a functional role of NScs for use during poor *** Using 13c pulse labelling,we traced the source of soluble sugars in stem and root organs during drought and everwet conditions for seedlings of two tropical tree species that differ in drought tolerance to estimate the relative allocation of NScs stored prior to drought versus NScs assimilated during *** monitored growth,stomatal conductance,stem water potential and NSc storage to assess a broad carbon response to *** Findings we found that the drought-sensitive species had reduced growth,conserved NSc concentrations in leaf,stem and root organs and had a larger proportion of soluble sugars in stem and root organs that originated from pre-drought storage relative to seedlings in control *** contrast,the drought-tolerant species maintained growth and stem and root NSc concentrations but had reduced leaf NScs concentrations with a larger proportion of stem and root soluble sugars originated from freshly assimilated photosynthates relative to control *** results suggest the drought-sensitive species passively accumulated NScs during water deficit due to growth inhibition,while the drought-tolerant species actively responded to water deficit by allocating NScs to stem and root *** strategies seem correlated with baseline maximum growth rates,which supports previous research suggesting a trade-off between growth and drought tolerance while providing new evidence for the importance of plasticity in

Otologic and vestibular symptoms in cOVID-19:A scoping review

Background:Otologic and vestibular symptoms have been seen in patients confirmed to have cOVID-19 *** discussion of these symptoms may provide insight into short-and long-term management for these ***:The aim of this review was to describe the otologic and vestibular symptoms that present in patients with *** primary outcomes of this review were onset,duration and clinical outcomes of these *** of Evidence:Pub Med,APAMed central,Herdin,cINAHL,Scopus,Springer Link,ProQuest coronavirus Research Database,and Google Scholar were searched for the articles to be *** criteria:Studies included were those involving adult patients diagnosed with cOVID-19 who experienced hearing loss,ear pain,ear discharge,otitis media,vertigo,or *** were eligible for inclusion if there was a description of the otologic dysfunction,specifically onset,duration,or clinical ***:The majority of patients who experienced hearing loss(68%),tinnitus(88%),vertigo/dizziness(30%),ear pain(8%),and discharge(100%)did so within a month of experiencing the typical symptoms of cOVID-19.A majority also experienced complete resolution of their symptoms within 2 *** treatment for cOVID-19 was usually provided but when specific diagnoses are made for these symptoms(e.g.,sudden sensorineural hearing loss,otitis media,vestibular neuritis),they are treated in the same manner as one would for non-cOVID-19 cases,in addition to the management for *** certain cases,there may be a need for additional work-up to rule out other ***:Otologic and vestibular symptoms were present in cOVID-19 patients,majority as part of the systemic nature of the *** onset,duration,and course were consistent with the natural history of a systemic viral ***-19 should be considered in any patient with a new-onset hearing loss,tinnitus,or vertigo/dizziness,even in the absence of infectious or respirato

Quantification of carpaine and Antioxidant Properties of Extracts from carica Papaya Plant Leaves and Stalks

Significance increase in dengue cases have been recorded worldwide every year and South East Asian countries have been badly ***,antiviral drug to treat dengue is still not available but papaya leaves extract(PLE)have been successfully used in treating dengue *** in PLE is the major active compounds that contributes to the anti-thrombocytopenic activity(raising platelet count in patient’s blood).The PLE also contains polyphenols that contribute to antioxidant *** were carried out to extract and quantify carpaine from young leaves,old leaves and stalks of papaya *** crystalline powders were successfully purified and confirmed by ^(1)H and ^(13)c NMR(Nuclear Magnetic Resonance).Young papaya leaves recorded significantly higher amount of carpaine(Pcompared with old leaves and *** treatment showed significant effect(Pcarpaine extracted from the young and old leaves and blended young leaves showed significantly much higher amount of carpaine as compared with the unblended samples(Pcontent(TPc),young leaves(both unblended and blended samples)contained significantly higher amount of TPc(Pwed by the old leaves and *** also showed relationship between the TPc and the 1,1-diphenyl-2-picrylhydrazyl(DPPH)assay scavenging activities namely Ic_(50)(R^(2)=0.9743)and acid equivalent antioxidant capacity(AEAc)(R^(2)=0.9581).Both young and old leaves also showed significantly higher(Pcavenging activities as compared with the stalks in both unblended and blended *** papaya leaves were recommended as source of material to extract carpaine for future development of drug in dengue treatment.
