Association of insertion-deletions polymorphisms with colorectal cancer risk and clinical features

AIM To investigate the association between 16 insertiondeletions(INdeL) polymorphisms, colorectal cancer(CRC) risk and clinical features in an admixed *** O n e h u n d re d a n d fo r ty p a t i e n t s w i t h C R C a n d 140 cancer-free subjects were examined. Genomic DNA was extracted from peripheral blood samples. Polymorphisms and genomic ancestry distribution were assayed by Multiplex-PCR reaction, separated by capillary electrophoresis on the ABI 3130 Genetic Analyzer instrument and analyzed on Gene Mapper ID v3.2. Clinicopathological data were obtained by consulting the patients' clinical charts, intra-operative documentation, and pathology *** Logistic regression analysis showed that polymorphism variations in IL4 gene was associated with increased CRC risk, while TYMS and UCP2 genes were associated with decreased risk. Reference to anatomical localization of tumor del allele of NFKB1 and CASP8 were associated with more colon related incidents than rectosigmoid. In relation to the INdeL association with tumor node metastasis(TNM) stage risk, the Ins alleles of ACE, HLAG and TP53(6 bp INdeL) were associated with higher TNM stage. Furthermore, regarding INdeL association with relapse risk, the Ins alleles of ACE, HLAG, and UGT1A1 were associated with early relapse risk, as well as the del allele of TYMS. Regarding INdeL association with death risk before 10 years, the Ins allele of SGSM3 and UGT1A1 were associated with death *** The INdeL variations in ACE, UCP2, TYMS, IL4, NFKB1, CASP8, TP53, HLAG, UGT1A1, and SGSM3 were associated with CRC risk and clinical features in an admixed population. These data suggest that this cancer panel might be useful as a complementary tool for better clinical management, and more studies need to be conducted to confirm these findings.

Organomineral Phosphorus Fertilization in the Production of Corn,Soybean and Bean Cultivated in Succession

The use of organic waste in agriculture has been used aiming at greater productivity, decrease in the cost of production and sustainable use of resources. The present study aimed at evaluating the effect of phosphate fertilization with the maintenance of organomineral fertilizers, combining poultry manure and soluble or reactive phosphate, in the production of grains in corn culture and the residual effect for subsequent crops of beans and soybeans. The experiment was conducted in Sete Lagoas, MG, in 2015, using three fertilizers with sources of different phosphorus sources (triple super phosphate—STP, organomineral with STP and organomineral with Bayovar phosphate) applied at the doses of 65, 130, 195 and 260 kg·ha¯1 of P2O5 total, and compared to the control without phosphate fertilization. We evaluated the contents of foliar P, P accumulation in the grains, yields of corn grains, beans and soy, accumulated productivity and export of accumulated P of the three cultures. The three cultures assessed presented higher productivity when compared to the average of the factorial treatments that received phosphate fertilization relative to the control. Organomineral fertilizers increased grain production, obtaining average productivity equal to or greater than those obtained with the exclusive use of STP.

Coagulopathy in surgical patients can cause perioperative complications, as both bleeding and thromboembolic events increase surgical morbimortality. The recognition of preexisting disorders and the understanding of the dynamic changes in hemostasis during surgery are prerequisites of safe patient management. The perioperative management of patients with chronic kidney failure is a huge challenge due to both the hypercoagulable state and increased risk of bleeding. Classic laboratory exams performed for the evaluation of blood clotting seem insufficient regarding the determination of the risk of bleeding and thrombosis in surgical patients. As patients with chronic kidney failure develop secondary hyperparathyroidism, the aim of the present study was to describe a case series and correlate the perioperative thromboelastographic profile of patients with chronic kidney failure submitted to parathyroidectomy with their secondary hyperparathyroidism.

State’s Technical Cartography and Social Cartography’s Participatory Mapping: Contributions to a Contemporary Reflection on the Use of Maps

The use of cartography in geographical approaches, notably in those focused on territorial discussions, is gaining more and more importance. However, the use of technical maps still prevails, which often act to hinder its use and appropriation by traditional communities. Based on this assumption, this article seeks to show that, in addition to technical cartography, there are other methodologies, which should also be used, in both elaboration and representation of territories, such as the participatory mapping. For that, some recommendations and suggestions are presented in this paper, aiming to subsidize the application and the collaboration of maps, through the mentioned methodology. These suggestions and contributions are the result of both theoretical debates and in loci observations, in workshops held in traditional communities of Brazilian Amazonia. From these discussions, it is concluded that the adoption of participatory mapping in the process of valuing and understanding the knowledge of traditional communities is of great value, in addition to serving as a subsidy for the claims of rights of both appropriation and possession of the territory.

PET-modified red mud as catalysts for oxidative desulfurization reactions

This work describes the synthesis of catalysts based on red mud/polyethylene terephthalate（PET） composites and their subsequent heat treatment under N2 *** materials were characterized by scanning electron microscopy（SEM）,temperature programmed reduction（TPR）,Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy（FT–IR）,X-ray diffraction（XRD）,thermogravimetric（TG） analysis and N2adsorption/*** catalysts were evaluated in the oxidative desulfurization reaction of dibenzothiophene（DBT） in a biphasic *** results indicated that the PET impregnation on red mud increased the affinity of the catalyst with the nonpolar phase（fuel）,in which the contaminant was dissolved,allowing a higher conversion（up to 80%） and selectivity to the corresponding dibenzothiophene *** sulfone compound is more polar than DBT and diffused into the polar solvent as indicated by the data obtained via gas chromatography–mass spectrometry（GC–MS）.

In this paper, data analysis and modeling of gamma ray tomography taken into account spatial resolution and source of errors and the attenuation coefficient measurement in row data from tomography process are presented. The results showed that this method is simple, effective and should be prior to any data treatment for opaque vessel reactor and by reconstruction algorithm in process imaging.

Production of Ca<sub>2</sub>AlNbO<sub>6</sub>Ceramics and Study of Their Stability in Crude Petroleum for the Conservation of Metallic Sensing Elements used in Petroleum Extraction

In the present work a niobium based complex cubic perovskite oxide Ca2AlNbO6 ceramic was produced, characterized and studied its stability in crude petroleum environment for inert ceramic embedding for temperature sensors used in petroleum extraction. Ca2AlNbO6 ceramic powder was prepared through thermo-mechanical processing. Structural characteristics of calcined material was investigated by powder X-ray diffarctometry, which presented a single phase complex cubic perovskite structure with lattice parameter a = 7.6599 ?. Compacted discs of Ca2AlNbO6 ceramics were sintered in the temperature range 1250°C - 1350°C during 24 hours in ambient atmosphere. Microstructure of the sintered ceramics was studied by scanning electron microscopy and mechanical behavior was studied by Vicker’s microhardness testing. Ca2AlNbO6 ceramics sintered at 1350°C presented best results in terms of microstructural homogeneity and mechanical hardness. Therefore these sintered ceramics were submerged in crude petroleum for 60 days. Ceramics were taken out from the petroleum periodically and subjected to structural, microstructural and mechanical characterizations. Results showed that ceramics submerged in crude petroleum did not suffer any change at any stage of submersion. These characteristics make this material suitable for inert ceramic embedding for sensors used in petroleum extraction.

The fi eld of bionanotechnology has been rapidly growing during the last few years and we can now envision a controllable integration between biological and artificial matter,where new biomimetic structures with a wide range of chemical and physical properties will promote the development of a novel generation of medical *** this work we describe a collagen/carbon nanotube composite which has the potential to be used as a scaffold for tissue *** this biocomposite incorporates the advantageous properties of both collagen and carbon nanotubes,it has most of the characteristics that an ideal biomaterial requires in order to be used as an osteoinductive *** biocomposite is bioresorbable and biodegradable and has the desired mechanical rigidity while maintaining a three-dimensional(3-D)nanostructured *** stability and swelling were achieved under fluid environments by varying the amount of carbon nanotubes(CNTs)incorporated into the *** variations can dictate the degree of interaction between fibroblastic cells and the ***-of-concept was shown by performing an in vitro induced mineralization of hydroxylapatite crystals under physiological ***,the ability to attach biofunctional groups to the CNT walls can open a new road for tissue regeneration since the combination of CNTs with specific growth factors or cellular ligands can create an environment capable of signaling and infl uencing specifi c cell *** observations suggest that collagen/carbon nanotube biocomposites will have important uses in a wide range of biotechnological areas.

Clinical Assessment of Treatment Outcomes Following Borago officinalis Extract Therapy in Patients Presenting with Cyclical Mastalgia

In order to evaluate the safety and efficacy of Borago officinalis (900 mg borage oil capsules) in the treatment of patients presenting with cyclic mastalgia, 91 subjects were included in the study. Efficacy assessments were performed based on data obtained prior to the start of treatment (Pretreatment), and after each menstrual cycle (Assessment 2—following 45 days of treatment;and Assessment 3—at the end of the 90-day treatment period). Primary efficacy measures considered the results of the Mastalgia Questionnaire, including a 100 mm visual analog pain scale assessing mean, most intense mastalgia severity, and impact on work, sleep, and sexual activity. Safety and tolerability measures included any changes in vital signs and physical exam in relation to pretreatment, any changes in clinical laboratory exams in relation to pretreatment, and the occurrence of adverse events after the first dose of study medication. Total Occlusion of Anterior descending Artery （AD） without ST-Segment Elevation： de Winter Pattern

The recognition of the presence of ST-segment elevation in the context of ACS （acute coronary syndrome） is fundamental for the good outcome of the case. However, some electrocardiographic patterns have been highlighted by the fact that there is no elevation, but they represent a severity similar to ACS with ST elevation. Hence, it is necessary that doctors who do the first service recognize these standards *** electrocardiographic pattern of association between the ST-segment depression and the hyperacute T waves representing myocardial infarction in the anterior wall, localizing more specifically in the anterior descending artery, now known as the de Winter pattern, was first described by Dressler, and then described by Winter six years later. Winter observed that, out of a series of 1,452 cases, 2% of patients with anterior wall infarction had the pattern of ST-segment depression, positive and symmetrical T waves, and occasionally mild ST-segment elevation at AVR derivation. Those patients are admitted to the emergency room with a typical chest pain. However, because the electrocardiographic findings of this syndrome are not known to many health professionals, in many cases the patients do not receive adequate care and have fatal outcome, since mortality is relevant in these cases. Thus, the rapid recognition of this pattern is extremely necessary for the correct and effective intervention.
