Plants synchronize their cellular and physiological functions according to the photoperiod （the length of the light period） in the cycle of 24 h. Photoperiod adjusts several traits in the plant life cycle, including flowering and senes- cence in annuals and seasonal growth cessation in perennials. Photoperiodic development is controlled by the coordinated action of photoreceptors and the circadian clock. During the past 10 years, remarkable progress has been made in under- standing the molecular mechanism of the circadian clock, especially with regard to the transition of Arabidopsis from the vegetative growth to the reproductive phase. Besides flowering photoperiod also modifies plant photosynthetic struc- tures and traits. Light signals controlling biogenesis of chloroplasts and development of leaf photosynthetic structures are perceived both by photoreceptors and in chloroplasts. In this review, we provide evidence suggesting that the photope- riodic development of Arabidopsis leaves mimics the acclimation of plant to various light intensities. Furthermore, the chloroplast-to-nucleus retrograde signals that adjust acclimation to light intensity are proposed to contribute also to the signaling pathways that control photoperiodic acclimation of leaves.

The effects of the long range electrostatic interaction in twisted bilayer graphene are described using the HartreeFock approximation. The results show a significant dependence of the band widths and shapes on electron filling,and the existence of broken symmetry phases at many densities, either valley/spin polarized, with broken sublattice symmetry, or both.

Spatial and Temporal Variations of the Particulate Matter in Riyadh City, Saudi Arabia

Mass concentrations of PM10 and PM2.5 for January 2012 up to october 2013 were measured at two sites;a suburban area, Riyadh airport (AP) and an urban area, King Fahd road district (KF) (densely trafficked site). Daily concentrations of both PM10 and PM2.5 measured at these two sites were highly variable. The temporal variation observed either for PM10 or PM2.5 was associated mainly with the dust events. The annual pattern of PM10 and PM2.5 at the AP station shows a significant increase in spring and summer (dusty seasons) where monthly mean concentrations of up to 696 μg·m-3 PM10 were recorded in March. PM10 concentrations during winter months are significantly lower, with 65 μg·m-3 measured in november and 78 μg·m-3 measured in December. January exhibits PM10 concentrations little above 100 μg·m-3. Both PM10 and PM2.5 showed substantial variations at these two monitoring stations during the study period. In the ur-ban station (King Fahd), average annual PM10 varied by up to roughly a factor of two. This variation implies that local emission sources in this site often contribute much (i.e. greater than half) of the PM10 mass on annual average. The variation of monthly (temporal) mean PM10 at KF station showed more or less similar results to the AP station. Higher concentrations were observed during spring and summer (12%, 17% and 13% in Feb., March and April respectively and 17, 15% during June and July). Starting from September and october, PM10 concentrations started to drop to 7% and 8% respectively. The relationships between the mean values of suspended particle concentrations and meteorological variables (relative humidity ambient temperature and wind speed) were analyzed. The results demonstrate that the influence of weather factors upon dust particulates is largely inconclusive. However, At KF station a moderate positive correlation was observed between wind speed and PM.

AIM： To quantify changes in urinary excretion of aquaporin2 water channels （u-AQP2）, the sodium-potassium-chloride co-transporter （u-nKCC2） and the epithelial sodium channels （u-EnaC） during treatment with bendrofumethiazide （BFTZ）, amiloride and ***： In a randomized, double-blinded, placebo-controlled, 3-way crossover study we examined 23 healthy subjects on a standardized diet and fuid intake. The subjects were treated with amiloride 5 mg, BFTZ 1.25 mg or placebo twice a day for 4.5 d before each examination day. on the examination day, glomerular filtration rate was measured by the constant infusion clearance technique with 51Cr-EDTA as reference substance. To estimate the changes in water transport via AQP2 and sodium transport via nKCC2 and EnaC, u-nKCC2, the gamma fraction of EnaC （u-EnaCγ）, and u-AQP2 were measured at baseline and after infusion with 3% hypertonic saline. U-nKCC2, u-EnaCγ, u-AQP2 and plasma concentrations of vasopressin （p-AVP）, renin （PRC）, angiotensin Ⅱ （p-AnG Ⅱ） and aldosterone （p-Aldo） were measured, by radioimmunoassay. Central blood pressure was estimated by applanation tonometry and body fuid volumes were estimated by bio-impedance spectroscopy. General linear model with repeated measures or related samples Friedman’s two-way analysis was used to compare differences. Post hoc Bonferroni correction was used for multiple comparisons of post infusion periods to baseline within each treatment ***： At baseline there were no differences in u-nKCC2, u-EnaCγ and u-AQP2. PRC, p-Ang Ⅱ and p-Aldo were increased during active treatments （P 〈 0.001）. After hypertonic saline, u-nKCC2 increased during amiloride （6% ± 34%; P = 0.081） and increased significantly during placebo （17% ± 24%; P = 0.010）. The objective of this work is the study of recoverability of materials. It consists in studying the effectiveness of the addition of natural pozzolan on the thermal properties of the mortar. To do this, measuring instruments were installed to quantify the overall indoor environment and in particular the thermal environment. Given that the thermal environment is characterized by the physical quantities： the temperature of air, wall temperature and the air humidity. This allows gauging the level of the energy consumption and thermal behavior of the envelope of structure in order to verify the conformity of the housing to the requirements of thermal comfort. For this, we measured the thermal conductivity of mortars containing different contents of pozzolan （10%, 20%, 30%）. So, the results showed the beneficial effect ofpozzolan as thermal insulator by comparing with other insulation materials.

The range of optimal values in cost optimization models provides management with options for decision making. However, it can be quite challenging to achieve feasible range of optimality in Geometric programming (Gp) models having negative degrees of difficulty. In this paper, we conduct sensitivity analysis on the optimal solution of Geometric programming problem with negative degree of difficulty. Using imprest data, we determine the optimal objective function, dual decision variables, primal decision variables;the range of values, the cost coefficient and RHS constraint must lie for the solution to stay optimal. From the analysis, we established that incremental sensitivity analysis has the functional form .

The study investigated the antibacterial activity of essential oil from the peel of Citrus aurantifolia against eleven multidrug-resistant (MDR) bacterial isolates of clinical origin. The Kirby-Bauer disc diffusion method was used to determine the antibiotic resistance profile of the isolates. Essential oil (Eo) from the peels of lime purchased at a market in Ile-Ife was extracted by the hydro-distillation method, while the sensitivity of the isolates to Eo was done via agar well diffusion method. The minimum inhibitory and minimum bactericidal concentrations (MIC and MBC) of the Eo against the tested isolates were determined following standard methods. All the tested isolates exhibited multidrug resistance (MDR) characteristics. The multiple antibiotics resistant indexes (MARI%) for Gram-positive bacterial isolates ranged between 70% and 100% while that of Gram-negative was 100%. The yield of Eo was 1% and the Eo demonstrated activities at 25%, 50% and 100% v/v against the MDR bacterial isolates. The activity of Eo was mostly not significantly different at the same concentration for all the isolates, and at different concentrations for each of the isolates. The MIC range for Gram-negative and Gram-positive isolates was between 0.195% to 3.125% v/v and 0.39% to 3.125% respectively while the range was between 1.563% to 3.125% and 0.781% to 6.250% v/v for MBC respectively. The study showed that Eo from the peel of lime fruits demonstrated excellent in vitro antibacterial activity against MDR bacterial isolates. This potential can be further explored as an alternative for the treatment and management of infections caused by MDR bacterial isolates.
