Background: Accurate estimates of the baseline incidence of childhood intussusception could help safety monitoring after introduction of rotavirus vaccines. Therefore, we studied the incidence of intussusception in the state ofQatar. Methods: We retrospectively reviewed cases of intussusception in children younger than 14 years. Children were treated between 2002 and 2012 at a single hospital inQatar. We analyzed information according to age, sex, clinical signs, diagnostic- and treatment-related characteristics, and length of stay. We calculated the national incidence of intussusception using census data. Results: A total of 106 children were diagnosed and treated for intussusception over 11 years. The male to female ratio of intussusception was 1.4:1. The most common symptom was bleeding per rectum (37%). one hundred andfour children with intussusception underwent diagnostic and therapeutic contrast enema, and 31.7% of patients underwent operative management. The length of stay was longer in patients who underwent operative reduction thanthat in those who did not. Conclusions: This is the first study to estimate the incidence of childhood intussusception prior to introduction of rotavirus vaccination in Qatar. A prospective surveillance system using a standardized case definition would be useful for examining the occurrence of intussusception in theArabicGulfarea and developing countries.

This paper implements the method of estimating functions (EF) in the modelling and forecasting of financial returns volatility. This estimation approach incorporates higher order moments which are common in most financial time series, into modelling, leading to a substantial gain of information and overall efficiency benefits. The two models considered in this paper provide a better in-sample-fit under the estimating functions approach relative to the traditional maximum likely-hood estimation (MLE) approach when fitted to empirical time series. on this ground, the EF approach is employed in the first order EGARCH and GJR-GARCH models to forecast the volatility of two market indices from the USA and Japanese stock markets. The loss functions, mean square error (MSE) and mean absolute error (MAE), have been utilized in evaluating the predictive ability of the EGARCH vis-à-vis the GJR-GARCH model.

Background: The relationship between splenic size and age has been well studied in children but reports on adults have been inconsistent. In Nigeria, the relationship between splenic size and age as well as the inter-decade changes in splenic length in adults has not been adequately studied. objectives: This study aimed at determining the relationship between splenic length and age in adult Nigerians. Methods: This is a retrospective study in which sonographic splenic lengths of adult Nigerians aged 30 years and above were correlated with age. The relevant data were obtained from the medical records of those who had ultrasound splenic examination for the purposes of medical check-up between December 2016 and December 2017. Results: There were 50 cases aged between 34 and 57 years, with a mean age of 42.76 ± 7.73 years. Their spleens had normal shape and echotexture. The mean splenic length was 9.56 ± 1.37 cm. Splenic length correlated negatively with age and decreased from 9.79 ± 1.00 cm in the fourth decade to 9.49 ± 1.67 cm in the fifth decade and to 9.24 ± 1.63 cm in the sixth decade. The mean splenic length of 9.56 recorded in these cases was relatively small when compared to the results by other workers who studied subjects of much younger age groups. Conclusion: The studied cases which were in the fourth, fifth and sixth decades of life had a relatively small mean splenic length. There was no significant change in splenic length with increasing age.

The coronavirus outbreak is the most notable world crisis since the *** pandemic that originated from Wuhan,China in late 2019 has affected all the nations of the world and triggered a global economic crisis whose impact will be felt for years to *** necessitates the need to monitor and predict CoVID-19 prevalence for adequate *** linear regression models are prominent tools in predicting the impact of certain factors on CoVID-19 outbreak and taking the necessary measures to respond to this *** data was extracted from the NCDC website and spanned from March 31,2020 to May 29,*** this study,we adopted the ordinary least squares estimator to measure the impact of travelling history and contacts on the spread of CoVID-19 in Nigeria and made a *** model was conducted before and after travel restriction was enforced by the Federal government of *** fitted model fitted well to the dataset and was free of any violation based on the diagnostic checks *** results show that the government made a right decision in enforcing travelling restriction because we observed that travelling history and contacts made increases the chances of people being infected with CoVID-19 by 85%and 88%*** prediction of CoVID-19 shows that the government should ensure that most travelling agency should have better precautions and preparations in place before re-opening.

Growth Pattern in Children with Juvenile Idiopathic Arthritis: A Retrospective Study

Aim of this study is to assess growth pattern in children with juvenile idiopathic arthritis (JIA) and factors associated with growth retardation. Methods: A retrospective chart review of all cases of JIA following up at Pediatric Department of King Abdulaziz University Hospital, between July 2000 to July 2016. Demographic, clinical and biological data were collected and analyzed as risk factor for growth retardation. These included age, gender, age at diagnosis, disease duration, type of JIA, the presence of uveitis, rheumatoid factor (RF) positivity, antinuclear antibody (ANA) titer and treatment. Growth pattern was assessed as the percentile for height-for-age, weight-for-age and weight-for-height in reference to the Growth Chart for Saudi Children and Adolescents. Change in percentile rank was divided into 3 categories: regression (a drop of ≥1 percentile);stable (uphold of the same percentile);and progression (change for a superior percentile). Results: A total 78 children were eligible, 52.6% females, mean ± SD age = 9.94 ± 4.92 years, and age at diagnosis = 7.44 ± 4.52 years, mean ± SD [range] disease duration = 2.93 ± 2.70 [6 months;15 years]. The most frequent types of JIA were systemic (33.3%), oligoarticular (30.8%) and polyarticular negative RF (26.9%). other parameters included positive ANA in 41.0%, positive RF in 7.7% and uveitis in 9.0%. The most frequent treatment was methotrexate (59.0%), followed by biological therapy (47.4%), non-steroid anti-inflammatory drugs (43.6%) and prednisolone (33.3%). Growth data were available for 67 (85.9%) children, and assessments showed 36% cases of break of the growth curve in both height-for-age and weight-for-age percentiles and 31% in weight-for-height percentiles. In all three parameters, there were shifts towards lower percentiles from time of diagnosis to last follow-up, in both males and females. Correlation and regression analysis showed low age at diagnosis and disease duration to be significant predictor

This paper focuses on techniques in utilizing remote sensor technology for precision crop production by farmers as climate change adaptation strategy in Nigeria. Descriptive survey research design was adopted for the study and was carried out between August 2013 and May 2014. The findings of the study revealed that 32 items were needed by farmers in utilizing sensory technology for precision crop production. The study recommended that the 32 items identified by the study should be utilized by extension agent in teaching the farmers the use of sensor technology for precision crop production while the farmers should make themselves available for the training.

Few studies have been conducted on hypertension among youth in Mali?hence the interest of our study aimed to clarify certain aspects what are not taken account yet in previous studies.?objective: Determine the clinical and para-clinical characteristics of hypertension among 18 to 35 years old young people.?Methods:?This cross-sectional and retrospective study of 24 months from January 1st, 2009 to December 31st, 2010?in the cardiology department of the Gabriel Touré UTH.?Results:?We identified 132 cases during the study period out of 2146 cases of hypertension with a prevalence of 6.1%. The female gender represented 81.8%, with a sex ratio of 45.59, 1% of patients had an unknown family history of hypertension. The age group of 31 to 35 years accounted for 43.9%. The circumstances of discovery were dominated by exertional dyspnea (37.9%). Body mass index was normal in 45.5% of patients. The higher BMI was more common in female patients with 39.39% (p?= 0.045). In the sample,53% of patients had a systolic blood pressure between 140?and 159 mmHg and 38.6% had diastolic blood pressure ≥ 110 mmHg with no significant difference (p?> 0.5). The high creatinine level was found in 18.18% of our patients. The ECG?found?84.6%?of left ventricular hypertrophy among cavitary hypertrophies. The echocardiography has found cavitary?dilatation in 40.04% of cases;it concerned the left ventricle in 25.71%. Also 18.57% of our patients had impaired left ventricular systolic function. Among the complications found in our patients, kidney failure led with 56%.?Conclusion:?Hypertension is not a rare event among young population even with a normal body mass index. It is often discovered during complications that can be dreadful.

This paper presents simple mathematical mobility models for configuration of Global interconnectivity with LEo satellite systems. The aim of this paper is to investigate on the performance measures of the satellite mobility models regarding optimum Global coverage arc length depending on the satellite locations relative to the four zones (quadrants) of the earth surface. A typical body of the satellite was positioned at a modified height of 780 Km from the earth surface and revolving round the earth in a circle of radius, 7160 Km was carefully studied and analytically parameterized enabling the generation of realistic instantaneous coverage arc lengths data. We compared the minimum required instantaneous arc lengths for the three mobility models that should cover the geographical coverage areas of the earth. The impact of the satellite movements relative to the earth locations was that the instantaneous coverage arc lengths were exponentially varying with time and continuously distributed within the four zones of the earth surface to provide continuous coverage around one polar orbit plane and assuming operations can continue down to an elevation angle of zero degree. The advantage of the derived mobility models is achieving almost 100% global coverage as a result of the dynamic behavior of the satellite playing an important role of providing instantaneous coverage arc lengths. This procedure also allows comparisons among different degrees of built-up zones of the earth surface as well as extra-polation to the different locations on the earth surface.

Magnetic field can be amplified and twisted near a supermassive black hole residing in a galactic nucleus. At the same time magnetic null points develop near the horizon. We examine a large-scale oblique magnetic field near a rotating (Kerr) black hole as an origin of magnetic layers, where the field direction changes abruptly in the ergosphere region. In consequence of this, magnetic null points can develop by purely geometrical effects of the strong gravitational field and the frame-dragging mechanism. We identify magnetic nulls as possible sites of magnetic reconnection and suggest that particles may be accelerated efficiently by the electric component. The situation we discuss is relevant for starving nuclei of some galaxies which exhibit episodic accretion events, namely, Sagittarius A* black hole in our Galaxy.

Pulverised stem fibres of the natural sponge plant, SP, (Acanthus montanus) and stranded coconut fibre, CF, (Cocos nucifera) from the coir tree were used as reinforcements for thin cement sheets in this research work. The mixture of cement and pulverised waste paper, which formed the matrix, was maintained constant while the fibre mass concentration of both fibres were varied. The slurry formed by adding water to the mixture of the matrix materials and the reinforcement fibres, was poured into rectangular mould and consequently pressed to eject excess water. De-moulded samples were allowed to cure in the laboratory for twenty-eight days before flexural and compressive tests were carried out. The analysis of the experimental results established that sample coded as S4, with 30% CF and 70% SP, showed the most promising result. This implied that particulate reinforcement in cement matrix composite contributed to higher and improved flexural load bearing capacity and ductility when utilised in a higher proportion than long fibres.
