Rice Yield Estimation by Integrating Remote Sensing with Rice Growth Simulation Model

Since remote sensing can provide information on the actual status of an agricultural crop, the integration between remote sensing data and crop growth simulation models has become an important trend for yield estimation and *** main objective of this research was to combine a rice growth simulation model with remote sensing data to estimate rice grain yield for different growing seasons leading to an assessment of rice yield at regional levels. Integration between NoAA (National oceanic and Atmospheric Administration) AVHRR (Advanced Very High Resolution Radiometer) data and the rice growth simulation model oRYZA1 to develop a new software, which was named as Rice-SRS Model, resulted in accurate estimates for rice yield in Shaoxing, China, with an estimation error reduced to 1.03% and 0.79% over-estimation and 0.79% under-estimation for early, single and late season rice, respectively. Selecting suitable dates for remote sensing images was an important factor which could influence estimation accuracy. Thus, given the different growing periods for each rice season, four images were needed for early and late rice, while five images were preferable for single season *** rice yield using two or three images was possible, however, if images were obtained during the panicle initiation and heading stages.

Sedimentology and foraminiferal paleoecology of the exposed oligocene-Miocene ogwashi-Asaba Formation in Issele-Uku area,Anambra Basin,southern Nigeria:A paleoenvironmental reconstruction

Sedimentological and foraminiferal paleoecological studies were carried out for the oligocene-Miocene ogwashi-Asaba Formation of the Anambra Basin at the Issele-Uku area in southern Nigeria,to reconstruct *** pattern of rock successions and textural characteristics suggest the prevalence of fluvio-deltaic setting during the formation of lignites and clastic rocks of ogwashi-Asaba *** benthic foraminiferal species such as Ammotium sp.,Textularia sp.,Gavelinella sp.,Milliamina sp.,Reophax sp.,Bolivina sp.,Eponides sp.,Pseudobolivina *** Lenticulina *** the shale units whereas the planktonic forms are *** these species have very low population and diversity in the shales,which could be due to the presence of harsh conditions such as low oxygen level and scarcity of food,leading to poor *** assessments of benthic foraminifera's habitat suggest middle-to-inner neritic marine environment for the *** results suggest fluvial environment for the sandstone and deltaic for the *** ogwashi-Asaba Formation in Issele-Uku area of Anambra Basin,southern Nigeria,therefore,have records of shallow marine,and fluvio-deltaic paleoenvironments.

Effects of Nitrogen Application and Weed Interference on Performance of Some Tropical Maize Genotypes in Nigeria

Low soil nitrogen （N） and weed infestations are some of the major constraints to maize production in Nigeria. A split-split plot experiment in a randomized complete block design with three replicates was established at two sites with different agroecological zones, Ikenne （Typic Paleudalf） and Shika （Typic Tropaquept）, in Nigeria in 2002 and 2003 rainy seasons to investigate the responses of four maize genotypes （oba super II, Low N pool C2, TZB-SR, and ACR 8328 BN C7） to N fertilizer applied at four rates, 0, 30, 60, and 90 kg N ha^-1, and three weed pressure treatments, no weed pressure （weekly weeding）, low weed pressure （inter-row weekly weeding）, and high weed pressure （no weeding throughout the growing season）. Growth and yield parameters of maize and weeds were taken at flowering and harvest. The results indicated that there was a significant reduction in maize leaf area, leaf area index, and photosynthetically active radiation due to weed interference at both sites. The application of nitrogen at 90 kg N ha^-1 significantly increased maize leaf area. Reductions in maize growth and yield at flowering and harvest were significant due to weed interference at both Ikenne and Shika, thus showing that the reductions in maize growth and yield due to weed interference were not ecological zone specific even though weed species and their seed banks may differ. Ameliorative management options could thus be the same in the two agroecological zones. Application of 90 kg N ha^-1 led to a significant increase in maize grain yield at Shika while there was no fertilizer effect at Ikenne on grain yield. There was no significant difference between 60 and 90 kg N ha^-1, suggesting that 60 kg N ha^-1 could be a possible replacement for the higher fertilizer rate at least for the identified maize genotypes. Low weed pressure treatment led to 26% and 35% reductions in maize grain yield at Ikenne and Shika, respectively, while 22% and 51% reductions, respectively, were observed due

Pre-treatment of mscanthus sinensis with Bacta-sile to aid anaerobic digestion

The investigation of the biodegradability and methane potential of bacterial pre-treated miscanthus sinensis has been carried *** percent solution of Bacta-sile:A silage promoter was used to pre-treat miscanthus sinensis at 25℃.The anaerobic digestion experiments were carried out at 25℃ and 35℃ in batch *** organic loading rates(oLR)varied between 1.25 g and 7 g in different batch *** results showed that the highest methane concentration was 57% from digester 1 while the lowest methane produced was 38% from digester *** low methane production from digester 3 was attributed to temperature changes and poor organic loading *** pretreatment aided biodegradation of miscanthus at 25℃.operating temperature of 25℃ had a great effect on digestion experiments resulting to longer required Hydraulic Retention Time(HRT).

We study discrete analogues of holomorphic functions of one and two variables, especially those that were called monodiffric functions of the first kind by Rufus Isaacs. Discrete analogues of the Cauchy-Riemann operators, domains of holomorphy in one discrete variable, and the Hartogs phenomenon in two discrete variables are investigated.

Habitat fragmentation, vole population fluctuations, and the RoMPA hypothesis: An experimental test using model landscapes

Increased habitat fragmentation leads to smaller size of habitat patches and to greater distance between patch*** RoMPA hypothesis(ratio of optimal to marginal patch area)uniquely links vole population fluctuations to the composition of the *** states that as RoMPA decreases(fragmentation increases),vole population fluctuations will increase(including the tendency to display multi-annual cycles in abundance)because decreased proportions of optimal habitat result in greater population declines and longer recovery time after a harsh *** date,only comparative observations in the field have supported the *** paper reports the results of the first experimental test.I used prairie voles,Microtus ochrogaster,and mowed grassland to create model landscapes with 3 levels of RoMPA(high with 25%mowed,medium with 50%mowed and low with 75%mowed).As RoMPA decreased,distances between patches of favorable habitat(high cover)increased owing to a greater proportion of unfavorable(mowed)*** from the first year with intensive live trapping indicated that the preconditions for operation of the hypothesis existed(inversely density dependent emigration and,as RoMPA decreased,increased per capita mortality and decreased per capita movement between optimal patches).Nevertheless,contrary to the prediction of the hypothesis that populations in landscapes with high RoMPA should have the lowest variability,5 years of trapping indicated that variability was lowest with medium *** design of field experiments may never be perfect,but these results indicate that the RoMPA hypothesis needs further rigorous testing.

Domains of holomorphy for Fourier transforms of solutions to discrete convolution equations

We study solutions to convolution equations for functions with discrete support in R^n, a special case being functions with support in the integer points. The Fourier transform of a solution can be extended to a holomorphic function in some domains in C^n, and we determine possible domains in terms of the properties of the convolution operator.

Derivation of a segregation-mixing equation for particles in a fluid medium

The main purpose of this work is to show that the gravity term of the segregation-mixing equation of fine mono-disperse particles in a fluid can be derived from first-principles （i.e., elementary physics）. our derivation of the gravity-driven flux of particles leads to the simplest case of the Richardson and Zaki correlation. Stokes velocity also naturally appears from the physical parameters of the particles and fluid by means of derivation only. This derivation from first-principle physics has never been presented before. It is applicable in small concentrations of fine particles.
