Purpose To evaluate whether an index based on hole configuration can be used t o predict visual outcome in eyes with idiopathic macular holes. Design Prospecti ve interventional case series. methods Thirty five eyes of 32 patients with idi opathic stage 2 or 3 macular hole were enrolled in this study. The best correct ed visual acuity (BCVA), cross sectional image of the macular hole by optical c oherence tomography (oCT), and retinal thickness in the central ( m), i nner (1000 to 2220 μm), and outer ring areas (2220 to 3450 μm) as defined by t he oCT retinal mapping program were evaluated preoperatively and at 1, 3, 6, and 12 months postoperatively. The change in retinal thickness of the inner ring ar ea at the 6month postoperative period was used to evaluate the degree of preoper ative retinal deformation. The macular hole index (mHi) (ratio of hole height to base diameter of hole) was calculated and correlated with minimum diameter of h ole, base diameter of hole, the postoperative decrease in macular thickness, and the postoperative BCVA. The postoperative BCVA was further evaluated in two pat ient matched groups. Results Retinal thickness values in the inner ring area we re decreased at the 1 month postoperative period. mHi significantly correlated with the postoperative decrease in macular thickness in the inner ring area at 6 months (correlation coefficient=-0.632, P=.030, Spearman analysis) and with th e postoperative BCVA (P=.013, multiple regression analysis). Postoperative BCVA in the mHi ≥0.5 group was better than that in the mHi oup (P= .032, man n Whitney test). Conclusions The mHi is a ratio easily calculated from oCT tran sverse images of the macular area. The mHi represents the preoperative configura tion of a macular hole and is a prognostic factor for visual outcome.

A new geological section recognized in Baishantou of Jiayin,Heilongjiang Province,China,was studied preliminarily in searching for the K/T *** early Paleocene florule characrerized by abundant Tiliaephyllum tsagajanicum leaves and its associated plants,was collected from the Baishantou member(new member representing the lower part of the Paleocene Wuyun Formation)overlying the possible K/T boundary.A tuff bed was found from the upper part of the Furao Formation(uppermost Cretaceous)in this *** new findings imply that the K/T boundary is probable lying in the interval between the base of the Baishantou member and the tuff bed,based on the correlation of the present strata with the stratotype of the Tsagajan Group spanning the K/T boundary in"Belaya Gara"of the Bureya Basin,*** early Paleocene florule from the Baishantou member and the early-middle maastrichtian dinosaurs found from the Yuliangzi Formation underlying the Furao Formation suggest that the Baishantou section is more promising for searching for the K/T boundary in this *** studies of the section is needed,integrating paleontological,biostratigraphic,geochemical,paleomagnetic,and sedimentary research would benefit our understanding the mass extinction event and biotic recovery in the Heilongjiang River area,China,and even all of northeast Asia during the K/T boundary interval.

To advance preclinical testing of novel targeted drugs in colorectal cancer (CRC) we established a panel of 133 mouse xenograft models from fresh tumor specimens of 239 patients with CRC of all four UiCC stages. A subgroup of 67 xenograft models was treated with cetuximab, bevacizumab and oxaliplatin as single agents. mutation status of KRAS (G12, G13, A146T), BRAF (V600E) and PiK3CA (E542K, E545K, H1047R) was assessed in all xenografts by allelespecific real-time PCR. KRAS codon 61 was assessed by conventional sequencing. AREG and EREG expression levels were analyzed by real-time PCR expression assays. in the treatment experiment we observed response rates of 27% (18/67) for cetuximab, 3% (2/67) for bevacizumab, and 6% (4/67) for oxaliplatin. Classification based on KRAS, BRAF and PiK3CA mutation status identified 15 of the responders (sensitivity 83%, confidence interval at p = 0.05 (Ci): 59% - 96%), and 38 nonresponders (specificity 78%, Ci: 63% - 88%). if any mutation except in KRAS codon 13 were considered, the classifier reached sensitivity of 94% and specificity of 69%. We improved specificity of the classifiers to 90% and 86% respectively by adding AREG and EREG RNA expression thresholds retrospectively. in patient-derived xenograft models, we found a predictive classifier for response to cetuximab that is more accurate than established biomarkers. We confirmed its potential performance in primary human tumors. For patients, the classifier’s sensitivity promises increased response rates and its specificity limits unnecessary toxicity. Given the scope of our xenograft models across all UiCC stages, this applies not only to mCRC but also to the adjuvant setting of earlier stages. The xenograft collection allows to mimic randomized phase ii trials and to test novel drugs effectively as single agents or in combinations. it also enables the development of highly accurate companion diagnostics as demonstrated by us for cetuximab.

We present a rigorous theoretical model for the influence of the aperture in interferometric out-of-focus imaging. We investigate the role of this effect on the properties of speckle-like patterns generated by irregular, rough particles. Finally, we determine the conditions under which these patterns are no longer representative of particle size but of the aperture itself and the defocus parameter.

Numerical modeling of adhesion and adhesive failure during unidirectional contact between metallic surfaces

in this work, we developed a finite element modeling approach to study adhesion during unidirectional contact between a two-dimensional plane-strain square and a flat slab. The surfaces were metallic or ceramic, and we analyzed different pairs of materials and their adhesion intensity using a FoRTRAN subroutine (DLoAD) connected to a commercial finite element code Abaqus, which provided the surface attractive forces based on the Lennard-Jones interatomic potential using Hamaker constants. We considered adhesive loads during both the approach and separation of the surfaces. During the separation step, we modeled the material transfer between surfaces due to adhesion with respect to damage initiation and propagation at the flat slab. The parameters considered in the simulations include normal load, chemical affinity, and system size, and we analyzed different conditions by comparing the interaction forces during approach and withdrawal. This work also presents: (i) a description of the evolution of energy dissipation due to adhesion hysteresis, (ii) the formation–growth–breakage process of the adhesive junctions and the material transfer between surfaces, and (iii) an adhesive wear map based on a proposed novel equation that correlates the material parameters and material loss due to adhesion. The results indicate that the chemical affinity between bodies in contact is more related to adhesion than the applied load. in addition, the ratio between the material strength and elastic modulus seems to be an important factor in reducing adhesive wear.

We identically prepared Cu-nmoSe_(2)(a−plane)and Cu-nmoSe_(2)(c−plane)Schottky barrier diodes(SBDs)on the same n-type moSe_(2) single *** effective Schottky barrier heights(SBHs)and ideality factors were obtained from the current−voltage-temperature(i–V–T)*** barrier height and ideality factor,estimated from the conventional thermionic emission model by assuming a Gaussian barrier distribution,are highly dependent on temperature.A notable deviation from the theoretical Richardson constant value is also observed in the conventional Richardson *** decrease in the experimental barrier heightΦB0 and an increase in the ideality factor n with a decrease in temperature have been explained on the basis of barrier height inhomogeneities at the metal−semiconductor *** is proven that the presence of a distribution of barrier heights is responsible for the apparent decrease of the zero bias barrier *** voltage dependence of the standard deviation causes the increase of the ideality factor at low *** value of the Richardson constant obtained without considering the inhomogeneous barrier heights is much closer than the theoretical *** Cu-nmoSe_(2)(a−plane)Schottky diode shows better results in comparison with the nmoSe_(2)(c-plane)Schottky diode.

为了阐明在肉鸡休药期日粮中添加维吉尼亚霉素的节省营养作用和降低费用提高效益做了两个试验。在试验1中,对Ross x Cobb肉鸡饲喂相同的雏鸡和中大鸡日粮。第30天,转为休药期日粮至第49天试验结束。处理设计如下:1)标准肉鸡休药期日粮（17.1%CP）;2)低营养水平（16%CP）的休药期日粮;3)日粮与2)相同,只是添加了15mg/kg维吉尼亚霉素。在试验2中,35天以内的Rossx Cobb肉鸡饲喂相同的雏鸡和中大鸡日粮,再转为休药期日粮,并饲喂至试验结束（第49天）。处理1组的鸡饲喂与试验1相似的标准日粮,处理2组的鸡饲喂极低营养水平（15%CP）的休药期日粮,而处理3组的鸡则饲喂与处理2组相同,但添加了15mg/kg维吉尼亚霉素。在两个试验中,饲喂含有维吉尼亚霉素休药期日粮的鸡均增重最明显,而且标准日粮（未降低营养水平）和低营养水平添加维吉尼亚霉素的日粮饲料转化率相当。饲喂含维吉尼亚霉素的休药期日粮鸡死亡率也最低。胸肉比例分析结果显示,在两个试验中,饲喂含维吉尼亚霉素日粮鸡的胸肉率要高于不加维吉尼亚霉素的另外两个处理组。

ong>Background and objectives:ong> osteoporosis causes fragility fractures which increase the morbidity and mortality in the elderly. our objective was to look at the hospital admissions due to fragility fractures and site of fractures. ong>methods: ong>This is a retrospective study of a 2-year period (2017-2018), in which we evaluated all the admissions of fragility fractures at King Fahd Hospital of the University, Al Khobar, Saudi Arabia. A Fragility Fracture is a fracture which occurs in patients with low bone mass due to a fall from a standing height. The data were gathered from the Quadru med patient care system for patients over the age of 50 years: sex, site of fracture, previous fractures, and treatment meted out. The hospitalization rate for fragility fractures was calculated by taking into consideration of all the adult admissions to the orthopaedic department. Ethical approval was obtained from the institutional Review Board of the Hospital and the imam Abdul Rahman Bin Faisal University, Dammam. ong>Results:ong> During the study period 187 patients with fragility fractures were admitted. The mean age was 68.55 ± 12.43 years;fracture femur was the most common with 136 (72.7%), tibia 15 (8%) and spine 14 (7.5%). At the time of discharge based on the T score of spine 50 were osteopenic and 45 were osteoporotic. overall adult admission for the study period was 1410 patients and 13.26% were patients with fragility fractures. There were 3 (1.6%) deaths within the first 30 days in the hospital. ong>Conclusions:ong> Fracture femur was the most common fragility fracture seen in our study. orthopaedic surgeons should be ready to treat all fragility fractures and treat osteoporosis appropriately so that a second fracture is prevented.
