Air pollution has become an important issue,especially in Caribbean urban areas,and,particulate matter(PM)emitted by different natural and anthropogenic sources causes environmental and health *** this work,we studied the concentrations of PM_(10) and PM_(2.5) sources in an industrial and port urban area in the Caribbean region of *** samples were collected within 48-h periods between April and october 2018 by using a Partisol 2000 i-D *** geochemical characterization was performed by X-ray fluorescence(XRF)***,ionic species and black carbon(BC)were quantified by ion chromatography and reflectance spectroscopy,*** the Positive Matrix Factorization(PMF)receptor model,the contributions of PM sources were *** average concentration of PM_(10) was 46.6±16.2μg/m^(3),with high concentrations of Cl and *** PM_(2.5),the average concentration was 12.0±3.2μg/m^(3),and the most abundant components were BC,S,and *** receptor model identified five sources for PM_(10) and PM_(2.5).For both fractions,the contributions of marine sea spray,re-suspended soil,and vehicular traffic were *** addition,PM_(2.5) included two mixed sources were found to be fuel oil combustion with fertilizer industry emissions,and secondary aerosol sources with building construction ***,PM_(10) was found to also include building construction emissions with re-suspended soil,and metallurgical industry *** obtained geochemical atmospheric results are important for the implementation of strategies for the continuous improvement of the air quality of the Caribbean region.

Hypoadiponectinemia: Association with risk of varying degrees of gestational hyperglycemia and with maternal ethnicity

objective: The aims of this study were to examine the influence of maternal hypoadiponectinemia on the risk of varying degrees of gestational hyperglycemia as well as on ethnic differences in circulating levels of adiponectin. Methods: A case-control study nested within a prospective cohort of healthy pregnant women compared those who developed gestational diabetes mellitus (GDM, N = 80), or had an impaired glucose challenge test (GCT) non-GDM (defined as 1hr plasma glucose >140 mg/dl after a 50-g oral glucose load when screening for GDM but did not meet the diagnostic criteria for GDM by a diagnostic oral glucose tolerance test, N = 128) to normal controls (N = 557). Concentrations of serum adiponectin were determined at entry (~17 weeks) and during the 3rd trimester. Results: With multivariable adjustment, entry hypoadiponectinemia (the lowest tertile vs. other tertiles pooled) was strongly associated with an increased risk of GDM (AoR 2.68, 95% CI 1.62 - 4.41) and with impaired GCT non-GDM (AoR 1.58, 95% CI 1.05 - 2.38). This association persisted after adjustment for pregravid BMI despite the fact that the risk in obese women with low adiponectin was higher. Similar data were obtained during the 3rd trimester. The concentration of adiponectin during the 3rd trimester was significantly lower in African Americans compared to Hispanics or Caucasians and this difference was detectable in both cases and controls (p or p or each). Conclusions: The present results identified a unique graded association between hypoadiponectinemia during early pregnancy with risk of GDM and less severe hyperglycemia non-GDM independent of maternal BMI. The relationship persisted to the 3rd trimester. African American women have lower adiponectin level than Caucasian or Hispanic women. Hypoadiponectinemia may play a significant pathophysiological role in the development of GDM and of less severe gestational hyperglycemia.

The Goel-okumoto software reliability model, also known as the Exponential Nonhomogeneous Poisson Process,is one of the earliest software reliability models to be proposed. From literature, it is evident that most of the study that has been done on the Goel-okumoto software reliability model is parameter estimation using the MLE method and model fit. It is widely known that predictive analysis is very useful for modifying, debugging and determining when to terminate software development testing process. However, there is a conspicuous absence of literature on both the classical and Bayesian predictive analyses on the model. This paper presents some results about predictive analyses for the Goel-okumoto software reliability model. Driven by the requirement of highly reliable software used in computers embedded in automotive, mechanical and safety control systems, industrial and quality process control, real-time sensor networks, aircrafts, nuclear reactors among others, we address four issues in single-sample prediction associated closely with software development process. We have adopted Bayesian methods based on non-informative priors to develop explicit solutions to these problems. An example with real data in the form of time between software failures will be used to illustrate the developed methodologies.

Error-free mitosis depends on accurate chromosome attachment to spindle microtubules,which is monitored by the spindle assembly checkpoint(SAC)*** an upstream factor of SAC,the precise and dynamic kinetochore localization of Mps1 kinase is critical for initiating and silencing SAC ***,the underlying molecular mechanism remains ***,we demonstrated that the multisite interactions between Mps1 and Ndc80 complex(Ndc80C)govern Mps1 kinetochore ***,we identified direct interaction between Mps1 tetratricopeptide repeat domain and *** further identified that Mps1 C-terminal fragment,which contains the protein kinase domain and C-tail,enhances Mps1 kinetochore ***,Mps1 C-terminal fragment mediates its *** of C-tail attenuates the kinetochore targeting and activity of Mps1,leading to aberrant mitosis due to compromised SAC *** together,our study highlights the importance of Mps1 dimerization and multisite interactions with Ndc80C in enabling responsive SAC signaling.

ontologies are widely used in modeling the real world for the purpose of information sharing and reasoning. Traditional ontologies contain only concepts and relations that describe asserted facts about the world. Modeling in a dynamic world requires taking into consideration the uncertainty that may arise in the domain. In this paper, the concept of soft sets initiated by Molodtsov and the concept of rough sets introduced by Pawlack are used to define a way of instantiating ontologies of vague domains. We define ontological algebraic operations and their properties while taking into consideration the uncertain nature of domains. We show that, by doing so, intra ontological operations and their properties are preserved and formalized as operations in a vague set of objects and can be proved algebraically.

Climate Variation and Malaria Prevalence in Warri Metropolis

This study examined the relationship between climate and prevalence of malaria in Warri metropolis. To achieve this, the study generated data from archival material from the meteorological agency and hospitals. Climate data of temperature, rainfall and humidity were collected from the Nigeria Meteorological agency, Warri and malaria in-patient and out-patient records from the two (2) central hospitals and one (1) renowned hospital each from the three (3) local Government Areas for a period of twenty (20) years (1990-2009). The data were analyzed using the Multiple Regression. From the study, the rainfall and temperature in Warri metropolis has increased over the years (1907-2009) by 122.82 mmand 1.3℃. Thus, if this warming continues there will be a risk of between 1.4℃ and an urban warming of 4.18℃, indicating climate change. There is a significant relationship between malaria and climate parameters (rainfall, temperature and humidity) which were evident at F value of 4.429 which is greater than the critical table value of 4.35, which implied that the model is significant and thus, malaria prevalence in Warri metropolis is significantly dependent on rainfall, relative humidity and temperature. It is anticipated that an increase in temperature and relative humidity resulted to a corresponding increase in the number of malaria cases, it is therefore recommended that any policy aimed at reducing the prevalence of malaria in Warri and environs must necessarily be imbued with programmes that have objectives of mosquitoes reduction through the improvement of our environment which includes the climate.
