Rice ratoon cropping,or the cultivation of tillers that have regrown from existing stem nodes of a harvested crop,is currently a hot topic in agriculture,and record-high ratoon crop yields have been achieved in China(Xu et al.,2021).Although rice ratoon cropping is most appropriate for certain agro-ecosystems with a suitable climate and cropping schedule,it is a promising strategy to simultaneously increase productivity while reducing inputs and labor.Rice ratoon cropping may thereby contribute to global food security and agro-ecosystem sustainability.

Brain organoids mimic closely the embryonic human brain:over the last decade,the development of human organoid systems has evolved rapidly.Different tissues have been modeled with organoids,such as the gut,lung,liver,kidney retina and brain.These systems have a high cellular heterogeneity,with many cell types integrated into the same system.organoids'cellular populations interact between and amongst each other in a cellular and molecular level,which represents an advantage with respects to monolayer 2D cell culture systems.

Emerging evidence and perspectives have pointed towards the heart playing an important role in hepatorenal syndrome(HRS),outside of conventional understanding that liver cirrhosis is traditionally considered the sole origin of a cascade of pathophysiological mechanisms directly affecting the kidneys in this context.In the absence of established heart disease,cirrhotic cardiomyopathy may occur more frequently in those with liver cirrhosis and kidney disease.It is a specific form of cardiac dysfunction characterized by blunted contractile responsiveness to stress stimuli and altered diastolic relaxation with electrophysiological abnormalities.Despite the clinical description of these potential cardiac-related complications of the liver,the role of the heart has traditionally been an overlooked aspect of circulatory dysfunction in HRS.Yet from a physiological sense,temporality(prior onset)of cardiorenal interactions in HRS and positive effects stemming from portosystemic shunting demonstrated an important role of the heart in the development and progression of kidney dysfunction in cirrhotic patients.In this review,we discuss current concepts surrounding how the heart may influence the development and progression of HRS,and the role of systemic inflammation and endothelial dysfunction causing circulatory dysfunction within this setting.The temporality of heart and kidney dysfunction in HRS will be discussed.For a subgroup of patients who receive portosystemic shunting,the dynamics of cardiorenal interactions following treatment is reviewed.Continued research to determine the unknowns in this topic is anticipated,hopefully to further clarify the intricacies surrounding the liver-heart-kidney connection and improve strategies for management.

Intelligent and connected vehicles(ICVs)are confronted with critically complex traffic scenarios and safety challenges that have attracted increasing attention from academia and industry.The intelligent safety of ICVs involves several technologies and requires the common efforts of researchers and engineers,including the safety of the intended functionality(SoTIF),the safety of artificial intelligence,the intricacies of cybersecurity,and ethical dilemmas.Ensuring the intelligent safety of ICVs presents substantial chal-lenges in both research and commercialization,particularly SoTIF,which refers to the absence of unreasonable risk owing to hazards resulting from functional insufficiencies of the intended functiona-lity or reasonably foreseeable misuse by person.Because of the limited scene coverage ability of training samples and the practical application conditions without boundary restrictions,it is very dif-ficult to find the functional insufficiency of the intended function-ality and overcome it under dynamic unknown scenarios,which is also the source of SoTIF.
