Introduction: Neonatal asphyxia (NA) is one of the most likely causes of neuro-developmental abnormalities in children. In Mali it is responsible for half of the early deaths and the third of neonatal mortality. Updated data would help understand and improve intervention strategies to reduce mortality. objective: It is the study of epidemiological and clinical characteristics, the immediate outcome and the factors associated with newborn (NB) mortality with NA. Material and Methods: This was a prospective cross-sectional study from June 27th to September 3rd 2016 about the NBs admitted for NA in the hospital Teaching Gabriel Touré of Bamako. The clinical and biological data including the prognosis were collected from the health records of women, the liaison sheets and the medical file. The analysis was done using the software Epi info version 3.5.1. Results: 76 NBs were included which represented 23.45% of hospitalizations. The majority (89.5%, n = 68) were admitted to less than 24 hours of life for NA grade III according to the Sarnat classification (43.4%, n = 33). The average age of mothers was 24.17 ± 5.5 years. Almost half (41.3%, n = 31) were primigravida. The most common obstetrical event was dystocia (64.5%, n = 49). The prognosis was poor in grade III anoxia in our patients (56%) of deaths. Conclusion: The périnatal anoxia (PA) is a major health issue in Mali because of its frequency and severity. Monitoring of pregnancies, delivery assisted by skillful and qualified personnel, mastery of neonatal resuscitation techniques are good means of prevention.

Tubal ligation is a surgical sterilization procedure that provides permanent and reliable contraception to women.?Tubal obstruction is a method of permanent birth control that can be performed after mini-laparotomy under local anesthesia. objective:?To determine the outcome of tubal sterilizations by mini-laparotomy under local anesthesia performed in clients who underwent the surgical operation in the Maternity Ward of Ignace Deen National hospital. Patients and Methods:?The Gynecology and obstetrics Department of Ignace Deen National hospital was used as the place for the study. The study involved all the women seeking voluntary surgical contraception. This was a retrospective study of a descriptive type carried out from January 1, 2017 to December 31, 2018. A consent form was filled out and signed by spouses after an interview and a systematically carried out pre-operative clinical and para-clinical assessment. Results:?During the study period, 56 tubal ligations were performed i.e. 4.72 percent of all family planning methods. The recruiting for the surgical contraception involved clients whose typical profile is that of women with an average age of 35, mostly housewives (35.71%), major multiparous (69.63%) with 6 living children on average. Married women made up the bulk of the recruiting i.e. 96.44%. Unmarried women made much more use of other methods. Indications of personal convenience were the most frequently encountered common reason. Among medical causes, high blood?pressure concerned the majority of cases: 38% of the indications. Surgical contraception in between was more practiced than the post-partum one. The recorded complication was the parietal hematoma due to a lack of hemostasis and it accounted for 1.79% of cases. The progress was uncomplicated in?98.68% of cases. Forty couples (71.42%) expressed their feelings of satisfaction against only 6 cases of regret (10.71%). Forceps Delivery at the Maternity Ward of Donka National Teaching hospital Conakry (Guinea): Indications and Maternal-Fœtal Prognosis

objectives: The objectives of this work were to describe the socio-demographic, clinical and prognostic characteristics of forceps deliveries at the maternity ward of the Donka National Teaching hospital of Conakry. Parturients and Method: This was a prospective and descriptive study of all forceps deliveries performed at the Donka National hospital maternity ward over a 6-month period from April 1, 2018 to September 30, 2018. Results: We performed 90 fetal extractions by forceps on 3518 deliveries i.e. a frequency of 2.55%. The socio-demographic profile of the parturient women was that of a young primiparous woman with an average age of 21.20 years and a full-term pregnancy with an average gestational age of 39 weeks of amenorrhoea. Fore position varieties were the most frequent with, in order of frequency, the fore left occipito-iliac (61.3%) and the fore right occipito-iliac (22.22%). Posterior varieties accounted for 15.55% of cases. Clinical pelvimetry showed that 88.89% of parturients had a practicable pelvis, while 11.11% had a moderately narrow pelvis. Acute fetal suffering was the most common indication (55.56%), followed by maternal exhaustion (27.78%) and prolonged expulsion (16.67%). All forceps were performed by doctors. We noted 8 cases of forceps failure (8.88%) that required a cesarean section. Maternal complications were dominated by soft tissue lesions, including 7 cases of perineal tearing (7.77%);4 cases of vaginal tearing (4.44%);3 cases of cervical tearing (3.33%) and 2 cases of hemorrhage of delivery by uterine atony (2.22%). No cases of maternal death have been recorded. The majority of newborns had a normal birth weight (88.88%) and more than half of newborns (66.66%) had an Apgar score below 7 out of 10 at the first minute. By the fifth minute there was an improvement in Apgar’s score from an average of 5 to 8 out of 10. Five newborns died, or 5.55%. Survey of Patient Knowledge, Attitudes and Practices Regarding ENT Pathologies in a Tertiary health Care Facility in West Africa

The ENT pathologies are not well known to the populations of our developing countries. This lack of knowledge leads certain subjects to have attitudes and practices that favor their occurrence and/or their aggravation. The objective of this study was to assess the knowledge and describe the attitudes and practices of patients facing ENT pathologies at the Conakry hospital and University Center (ChU). This was a prospective, descriptive study lasting six months (June-November 2018). Among the 1410 patients who had consulted in the department during the study period, 1102 had participated in the survey, or 78.16% of cases. The mean age of the patients was 39.3 ± 17.3 years, predominantly female, for a sex ratio of 0.75. The majority of patients were of university education (41.02%) and civil servants (38.66%) represented the dominant socio-professional layer. Rhino-sinusitis (30.85%) and ear infections (20.14%) were the most common pathologies. Almost a third (32.85%) of respondents had no knowledge of behaviors harmful to ENT health. More than half (52.45%) of the patients did not know of any factors favoring the occurrence of ENT pathologies. The therapeutic orientation had been made towards modern medicine in 63.52% against 4.54% for traditional medicine. The choice of self-medication concerned 31.94% of patients. This survey showed that patients have limited knowledge of ENT pathologies as well as the attitudes and practices likely to favor their occurrence. however, a multicenter study involving a larger proportion of patients will confirm these data.

Temporary ponds play substantial roles in preserving biodiversity in the *** study investigated the influence of anthropic and eco-hydrological factors on the plant diversity around two grazed ponds and one ungrazed pond in Ferlo,northern *** phytoecological transects were established per *** each transect,homogenous herbaceous vegetation units were identified and characterized(herbaceous cover,exposure,soil texture,soil moisture and ph,average height and slope).The herbaceous flora comprised 55 species,41 genera and 22 families across the three *** of the Poaceae,particularly Eragrostis tremula and Enteropogon prieurii,mostly colonized the grazed ponds,while the ungrazed pond favored other families’species such as Achyranthes sp.,Commelina forsskaolii,Corchorus *** Shannon’s diversity index(h′)of Wendu Marodi(ungrazed pond)was slightly higher(4.9 bits)than that of Belel Lougal and Belel Sow(grazed ponds)with 4.8 and 4.5 bits,*** equitability indices were relatively high in the three ponds(0.85,0.83 and 0.78).Eco-ecological factors distinguished four species’groupings:a Tribulus terrestris grouping colonizing the constraining and over-grazed zones,a Digitaria horizontalis grouping,and Chloris barbata grouping found in the transition zones,and an Achyranthes aspera grouping in the wetlands,where woody plants were strongly present and the anthropic action *** study highlighted the importance of maintaining a landscape mosaic of ungrazed or semi-protected ponds and grazed ponds to preserve the herbaceous floristic diversity in the center of Ferlo(Senegal)and the Sahel in general.

Surgical Intervention on Uterine Fibromyoma in a Country with Limited Resources: Case of the Gynaecology-obstetrics Department of the Communal Medical Centre of Ratoma Conakry-Guinea

In developing countries, treatment of uterine fibromyoma is confronted with numerous problems, namely: financial inaccessibility to the proposed treatments, fear of surgery and the weakness of the technical platform.?objectives: The objectives of the study were to calculate the frequency of uterine fibromyomas, describe the socio-demographic characteristics of patients, identify the main clinical data and to describe the modalities of surgical management.?Patients and Method:?It was a mixed descriptive study, cumulative over a period of 5 years (60 months) with data collection in two phases: a 4-year retrospective study from January 1, 2015 to December 31, 2018 and a 1-year prospective study from January 1, 2019 to December 31, 2019.?Results: We collected 135 cases of uterine fibromyomas operated on out of a total of 260 cases of gynaecological pathologies, i.e.?a frequency of 51.92%.?Nulliparous women were the most concerned (45.18%), and women who attended school (60%) and those who did not attend school (40%). Women at home and housewives accounted for 42.20% and 54.07% respectively. Clinically, the circumstances of discovery were dominated by menometrorrhagia and menorrhagia respectively 77.77% and 68.14%. The large uterus was the most frequent physical sign found in 96.29% of cases. Uterine fibromyomas were recorded in 86.6% of cases in women with genital activity. The operative indications were dominated by the large polymyomatous uterus (64.44%), followed by hemorrhagic fibroma (18.52%).?The surgical treatment was conservative in 92.60%. The total hysterectomy performed in 7.40.?Lethality was 1.4%.?Conclusion: The surgical management of fibroids contrasts conservative treatment (myomectomy) with radical treatment (hysterectomy) with multiple possible approaches (hysteroscopy, vaginal surgery, laparoscopy or laparotomy). In our context, only laparotomy was possible due to lack of equipment. Laparoscopy and hysteroscopy equipment is necessary for less invasive

Causes and Prognosis of Cases of Acute obstructive Renal Failure Managed at the Donka National hemodialysis Center

Introduction: Acute obstructive renal failure (AoRF) is a frequent clinical situation, secondary to obstruction of the urinary excretory tract. Whatever the cause, urinary tract obstruction suddenly opposes glomerular filtration and is responsible for tubulointerstitial lesions. It accounts for 10% of acute renal failure (ARF). The aim of this study was to identify the causes and prognosis of cases of acute obstructive renal failure managed at the Centre National d’hémodialyse Donka. Material and Methods: This was a prospective descriptive study lasting 6 months, from September 1, 2022 to February 29, 2023. All patients undergoing haemodialysis for acute obstructive renal failure who agreed to participate in the study and whose medical records were complete were included. Results: During the course of the study, we registered 97 haemodialysis patients, including 20 cases (20.62%) of acute obstructive renal failure. The mean age of the patients was 57.8 ± 10.54 years, with a male predominance of 11 cases (55%) and a sex ratio of 1.22. The reasons for consultation were dominated by physical asthenia 11 cases (55%), lumbar pain 9 cases (50%), vomiting 6 cases (30%) and acute urine retention 6 cases (30%). Arterial hypertension 16 cases (80%) and urinary tract infection 10 cases (50%) were the most common antecedents. The etiologies of RAoI were dominated by lithiasis 10 cases (50%), neoplasia 6 cases (30%) and benign prostatic hypertrophy 3 cases (15%). mean creatinine was 1267.60 ± 710.76 μmol/l with extremes of 243 μmol/l and 2822 μmol/l, mean urea was 39.56 ± 18.36, hyperkalemia in 14 cases (70%) and hyponatremia in 8 cases (40%). After hemodialysis, 9 cases (45%) recovered renal function, 4 cases (20%) became chronic and 7 cases (35%) died. Conclusion: The frequency of AKI remains non-negligible in our department, and early detection and prompt management would considerably reduce the morbidity and mortality associated with this pathology.

Introduction: Diabetes mellitus and hypertension are chronic diseases that are on the rise and pose a major public health problem among the priorities of healthcare systems. objectives: Determine the prevalence of diabetes and hypertension and describe the sociodemographic characteristics of those screened. Materials and Methods: This was a cross-sectional study organized during a diabetes and hypertension screening campaign that took place in Conakry and five (05) inland regions on November 14, 2022. Results: 2050 people were screened, of whom 33.12% were housewives, the average age was 44.78 ± 16.23 years, and 55.27% were women. The screening sites were the city of Conakry 741 (36.15%), the Labé region 424 (20.68%), the N’Zérékoré region 298 (14.54%), the Faranah region 241 (11.75%), the Mamou region 210 (10.24%) and the Boké region 136 (6.63%). The prevalence of diabetes and hypertension were respectively 12.5% and 43.38% for the Boké region;6.19% and 16.19% for the Mamou region;3.02% and 21.81% for the N’Zérékoré region;31.95% and 13.69% for the Faranah region;9.67% and 20.28% for the Labé region;2.83% and 20.28% for the city of Conakry. Conclusion: Despite the limitations of the study duration, our series highlighted the high prevalence of diabetes and hypertension among people screened on World Diabetes Day 2022. Raising public awareness of a healthy lifestyle is essential for the prevention and control of diabetes and hypertension.

Indications and Results of Parotidectomies in the orl Department of the Idrissa Pouye General hospital in Dakar. Concerning 31 Cases

Introduction: The parotid tumors are benign or malignant, primary or secondary neoformations developed at the expense of the parotid gland. The aim of the present study was to describe the indications and results of parotidectomies in the ENT department of the Idrissa Pouye General hospital in Dakar. Patients & Methods: We conducted a retrospective study between January 1, 2004 and December 31, 2012, including all patients who had been consulted for a parotid tumor with or without histological evidence collected in the otolaryngology and anatomy-pathology department of the Idrissa Pouye General hospital in Dakar. Results: We collected 31 patient files. The mean age was 47.45 years, with extremes of 16 and 74 years. Females predominated, with a sex ratio of 0.82. Swelling of the parotid region was the main reason for consultation in 100% of cases. Parotidectomy was the most frequently performed procedure, accounting for 41.93%. Benign tumors accounted for 72% of cases, the majority being pleomorphic adenomas (50%). The outcome was favorable in 67.74% of cases. Conclusion: Management of parotid tumors at hoGIP would be improved by informing and educating patients to consult early, and by upgrading the technical platform.
