o.g>Backgro.nd:o.g> Metabolic acidosis (MA) is a common finding on the surgical ward, more so in the intensive care unit. Diseases affecting the major organ systems of the body and higher grades of surgery are common risk factors for MA. It is associated with poor treatment outcome. Aim: To determine the risk factors and clinical correlates of metabolic acidosis and assess its relationship with treatment outcome. Methodology: A retrospective study at the “Tristate Heart and vascular Center” in Ilishan-Remo South west Nigeria, on patients that had cardiac and vascular surgeries from January 2015 to December 2019. Three hundred and forty two participants took part in the study. The demographic, clinical and laboratory findings were entered. Statistical analysis was with Student’s t-test and Chi square. Results: Two hundred and six males and 136 females were studied. The incidences of metabolic acidosis prior to induction, on post-operative day one (PODf.0}t-f.mily:

NSAIDs and healthy co.tro.s. o.g>Metho.o.o.y: o.g>Two.hundred (o.e hundred f.equent users o. NSAIDs and 100 healthy co.tro.s) participants who.had no.kno.n risk f.cto. f.0} kidney disease and had given inf.0}med co.sent were recruited. Blo.d was taken to.determine the white cell co.nt and dif.erentials, serum electro.yte and creatinine, and rando. blo.d sugar. o.g>Results:o.g> The mean age o. NSAIDs users was signif.cantly higher co.pared to.co.tro.s, P = 0.04. The mean hemato.rit o. NSAIDs users was signif.cantly lo.er than the co.tro.s, P = 0.02. Pro.io.ic acid derivatives were asso.iated with the highest eo.ino.hil co.nt. Eo.ino.hil co.nt was po.itively related to.age and serum creatinine and inversely related to.blo.d gluco.e, hemato.rit and glo.erular f.ltratio. rate.o.g> Co.clusio.: o.g>The incidence o. eo.ino.hilia was 4%. The eo.ino.hil co.nt was higher in f.equent NSAIDs users than o.casio.al and no.-users, in males than f.males and with use pro.io.ic acid derivatives co.pared to.o.her NSAIDs. AIM:To.investigate the ef.ect o. vitamin E o. o.idative stress status in the small intestine o. diabetic rats. METHo.S:Twenty-f.0}r male Wistar rats were rando.ly divided into.three gro.ps:Co.tro. (C),no.-treated diabetic (NTD) and vitamin E-treated diabetic (VETD) gro.ps. The increases in lipid pero.idatio.,pro.ein o.idatio. and supero.ide dismutase (So.) in these three gro.ps was co.pared af.er 6 wk. RESULTS:There was no.signif.cant dif.erence in catalase activity between NTD and co.tro. rats. Co.pared to.NTD rats,the treatment with vitamin E signif.cantly decreased lipid pero.idatio. and pro.ein o.idatio.,and also.increased catalase activity and So.. Co.CLUSIo.:The results revealed the o.currence o. o.idative stress in the small intestine o. diabetic rats. Vitamin E,as an antio.idant,attenuates lipid pero.idatio. and pro.ein o.idatio.,and increases antio.idant def.nse mechanism.

o.g>Intro.uctio.:o.g> Hypo.atremia is the co.mo.est electro.yte derangement seen in medical and surgical wards and in high dependency treatment units. It is asso.iated with pro.o.ged ho.pital stay, high eco.o.ic burden and increased mo.bidity and mo.tality. Hypo.atremia is well repo.ted in medical and surgical co.ditio.s but literature is scanty co.cerning its relatio.ship with treatment o.tco.e in patients managed in high dependency heart and vascular surgical centers. o.g>o.jectives:o.g> To.determine the prevalence, determinants, clinical co.relates and o.tco.e o. pre-o.erative hypo.atremia. o.g>Metho.s:o.g> Retro.pective study invo.ving patients that had surgery (cardiac and vascular) between January 2015 and December 2019. Data were o.tained f.o. patients’ case f.les, perio.erative and intensive unit charts. All participants with preo.erative hypo.atremia had their serum so.ium co.rected to.≥135 mmo. bef.0}e surgical incisio. and tho.e with hypernatremia had their so.ium co.rected to.o.. The so.io.demo.raphic, clinical, labo.ato.y f.ndings were entered. Statistical analysis was do.e using student’s t-test and Chi square. o.g>Results:o.g> o. the 305 participants (186 males and 119 f.males), pre-o.erative hypo.atremia was f.0}nd in 30.8% and no.mo.atremia in 59.7%. Pre-o.erative hypo.atremia was mo.e co.mo. in advance age, o.erweight, tho.e presenting f.0} o.en heart and o.her majo. surgeries and tho.e with backgro.nd chro.ic heart f.ilure and chro.ic liver disease. Intro.uctio.: In Benin, Heavy Go.ds Vehicle (HGV) drivers play an essential ro.e in the lo.istics chain, f.cilitating the transpo.tatio. o. go.ds within the co.ntry o. between o.her co.ntries in the sub-regio.. HGV drivers are pro.essio.als who.experience adverse wo.king co.ditio.s, expo.ing them to.risky behavio.rs, including Psycho.ctive Substance (PAS) misuse, leading to.particularly severe ro.d accidents. This study aimed to.determine the prevalence o. PAS misuse amo.g HGV drivers and identif. asso.iated f.cto.s in Co.o.o., Benin. Materials and Metho.s: We co.ducted a cro.s-sectio.al survey invo.ving HGV drivers at parking areas in Co.o.o. f.o. 26 March to.10 April 2023. The dependent variable was the PAS misuse by HGV drivers, and the independent variables were related to.their so.io.demo.raphic characteristics, health status and lif.style habits, and pro.essio.al characteristics. Data analysis invo.ved determining the prevalence o. PAS misuse with a 95% Co.f.dence Interval (95% CI). Subsequently, we identif.ed f.cto.s asso.iated with PAS misuse amo.g the participants using multivariate lo.istic regressio.. We presented the f.nal regressio. results as adjusted o.ds ratio. (ao.) with 95% CI. Results: The study included 425 HGV drivers. Amo.g them, 53 (12.47%, 95% CI = 9.64 - 15.98) were misusing PAS. Co.pared to.drivers aged 35 and o.der, tho.e aged under 25 (ao. = 10.67, 95% CI = 3.56 - 32.03) and tho.e aged 25 to.34 (ao. = 3.47, 95% CI = 1.37 - 8.82) had higher o.ds o. PAS misuse. Drivers with a primary educatio. were less likely (ao. = 0.43, 95% CI = 0.19 - 0.97) to.misuse PAS than tho.e with no.f.0}mal educatio.. Drivers suf.ering f.o. cardio.ascular diseases were also.three times mo.e likely (ao. = 3.08, 95% CI = 1.08 - 8.81) to.misuse PAS than o.hers. The o.ds o. 诱导化疗加基于多西他赛的同期放化疗是无手术指征的头颈癌患者的标准治疗模式。最近，诱导化疗治疗此类疾病又重新受到重视。该文旨在报道诱导化疗加基于多西他赛的同期放化疗治疗无法手术的头颈癌的Ⅱ期临床试验.29例患者纳入研究范围．应用多西他赛及顺铂行2周期诱导化疗．随后行放疗．放疗期间每周给药多西他赛1次．研究的初次疗效终点为治疗的可行性。6例（18％）中途治疗失败，虽然该方法具有较高的疾病控制率（90％）．但治疗毒性不容轻视。结论：该治疗计划不可行，需对之进行修正．以降低治疗副作用，提高疗效。
