It.det.rmined demo.raphic charact.rist.c o. t.e st.dy po.ulat.o. and reco.mended t.e pro.hylact.c usage o. magnesium sulphat. in pregnancy in o.r enviro.ment. Met.o.: t.is was a pro.pect.ve case co.t.o. st.dy co.paring t.e serum magnesium levels in pre-eclampsia and no.mal pregnancy t.rt.ary ho.pit.ls. t.e wo.en who.sat.sfied t.e inclusio. crit.ria were recruit.d in t.e t.o.gro.ps (sevent. five in t.e healt.y pregnant.wo.en and sevent. five in t.e pre-eclampt.c wo.en). t.e blo.d samples were co.lect.d and analysed fo. t.e serum magnesium and urine sample fo. urinalysis. Result. t.0}al o. 150 pat.ent. co.prises 75 no.mal pregnant.wo.en and 75 cases o. pre-eclampsia. t.e mean serum magnesium in t.e no.mal pregnant.wo.en was 0.73 (±0.14) mmo./L while in preeclampsia t.e level was 0.58 (±0.17) mmo./L. t.is is st.t.st.cally significant.(t.= 6.120, p = 0.000). t.ere was significance difference in t.e mean age o. pat.ent. wit. pre-eclampsia and no.mal pregnancy. t.e mean parit. in t.e pre-eclampsia was 0.80 and in t.e no.mal pregnancy was 1.4 and was st.t.st.cally significant.(t.= 3.40, p value t.e mean gest.t.o.al age o. t.e pre-eclampt.c was 36.5 weeks while it.was 28.7 weeks in t.e no.mal pregnant.wo.en (t.= 10.80, p = 0.000). Co.clusio.: t.e findings in t.is research wo.k revealed t.at.t.e pre-eclampt.c wo.en have lo.er serum magnesium level co.pared t.0}t.e no.mal pregnant.wo.en, and it.may t.erefo.e be int.rest.ng t.0}do.a larger mult.cent.r st.dy wit. po.sibilit. o. develo.ing a marker fo. t.is disease o. t.eo.ies.

t.o.g>Backgro.nd:t.o.g> Preeclampsia-eclampsia is a major contributor to maternal and fetal, morbidity and mortality especially in low to middle income countries. This hypertensive disorder of pregnancy remains a disease of theories due to its unclear etiology. We evaluated for possible associations between maternal serum lipids and preeclampsia. Methods: This was a prospective case-control study that recruited 60 consenting women diagnosed with preeclampsia (cases) and 60 normotensive healthy pregnant women (controls), matched for maternal age and gestational age over an 8-month period (18th June, 2014 to 18th February, 2015) at the Federal Teaching Hospital Ido-Ekiti, Nigeria. Cases and controls were recruited using the non-probability convenience sampling. Fasting venous blood samples were collected in both cases and controls and analyzed for serum total cholesterol (TC), triglycerides (TG), high density lipoproteins (HDL) and low density lipoproteins (LDL) using Randox standard enzymatic methods. Data obtained were analyzed using SPSS version 18 to compare and test for significance using Student t-test, Chi-square, and Pearson’s correlation as the appropriate. Tests of association were determined using logistic regression models.
