To protect the sustainability of the benefits from seas and near coastal areas,which have under the effect of the very complex hydrodynamic conditions and intensive human activities,without disrupting the balance of nature,it is necessary to image the status of the seafloor ***,this study presents the deformations,depositional conditions,underwater constructions,and the other non-natural impacts on the seafloor of the nearshore area at western Istanbul(between Küçükçekmece and Büyükçekmece lagoons)where it intensely used by the *** results of the study may provide some guidance for understanding the impacts and risk factors of uses that are or will be conducted in coastal and/or near-coastal *** planning for civil coastal structures and areas should be done in great harmony with nature,minimizing negative environmental *** sediment distribution in the area is generally quite complex,the current state of the region,wave action,hydrodynamic conditions,the amount of material transported from the land,and bathymetry are important influencing *** seafloor has been damaged primarily by anchor deformation and associated bottom scanning,as well as disturbing trawl *** seafloor was observed as partially shallowing near the constructions(such as natural gas pipelines,fishermen’s shelter,and port piles)of coastal areas and associated with sand ***,scanning the seafloor using side-scan sonar may provide valuable frequency data to prevent future disruptions.

Salinity is a major abiotic stress that hinders plant development and productivity and influences agricultural *** priming is a technique used to boost germination and seedling growth under abiotic stress.A pot experiment was conducted to evaluate the impact of seed priming with potassium nitrate(KNo_(3))at various levels(0%,0.50%,1.00%and 1.50%)under salt stress(0,75,100 mM NaCl)on two maize verities(MNH360 and 30T60)for the growth,development and metabolic attributes results revealed that in maize variety MNH360,KNo_(3)priming’s significantly enhanced growth parameters than in maize variety 30T60 under control and salt-stressed *** with KNo_(3)enhanced carotenoids and total chlorophyll in the 30T60 variety that protected the maize plants from salt ***,it was shown that priming with 1.00%KNo_(3)acts as safeguarded to protect them from oxidative damage by salt stress minimizing reactive oxygen species(RoS)formation through increased levels of malondialdehyde(MDA),catalase(CAT),peroxidase(PoD),ascorbate peroxidase(APX),and total soluble *** findings of the present study confirm that the use of the KNo_(3)seed priming technique is a lowcost,environmentally friendly technique for mitigating adverse impacts of salt stress in maize crops by activating the antioxidant defense system and improving chlorophyll and osmolyte contents.

Wheat(Triticum aestivum L.)exhibits a greater capacity for cadmium(Cd)absorption compared to other cereal crops,leading to elevated daily Cd intake,and posing a signiﬁcant threat to public *** the mitigation of Cd stress in sustainable and environmentally friendly way,a pot study was designed by using exogenous application of various biostimulants,i.e.,Nigella sativa and ocimum sanctum extracts:0%,10%,and 20%in combination with the chelating agent ethylenediaminetetraacetic acid(EDTA)using 0 and 5 mg kg^(-1) under various levels of Cd stress(i.e.,0,5,10,and 15 mg kg^(-1) soil).Results revealed that Cd stress signiﬁcantly reduced the seed emergence,growth,root,and allometric characters and yield-related parameters of wheat *** most observable reduc-tion was documented in wheat plants exposed to a higher Cd concentration(15 mg kg^(-1)),followed by the lower Cd level(control).The combined application of bio-stimulants and EDTA minimized the negative impacts of Cd *** highest increase in seedling emergence(5.44%),leaf area(50.60%),number of tillers(31.02%),grain yield per plant(24.28%),biological yield(13.97%),and decrease in Cd levels in grains(40%)was noticed where 20%foliar application of *** and 10%of *** biostimulants were done using 5 mg kg^(-1) of soil-applied *** intervention demonstrated a notable reduction in Cd-induced negative effects,highlighting the potential of these substances in promoting sustainable wheat cultivation in contaminated ***,it is an eco-friendly and approachable method at theﬁeld level able to ensure food safety.

We read the article entitled Serum uric＇ acid as a prognostic marker in the setting of advanced vascular disease： a prospective study in the elderly by Stolfo, et al. with great interest. The authors evaluated the association of serum uric acid （SUA） levels with adverse cardiovascular events and deaths in an elderly population affected by advanced atherosclerosis. They founded meaningful association between SUA levels and of cardiovascular events and cancer related death. We believe that these findings will lead for further studies on uric acid.

AIM： To evaluate the mechanical and biochemical parameters of colonic anastomotic healing in hypercholesterolemic rats. METHoDS： Sixty rats were divided into two groups of 30 each according to their dietary regimens. The test group was fed with a high cholesterol-containing diet for two months while the control group had standard diet. These two groups were further divided into three subgroups consisting of ten rats each. After hypercholesterolemia was established, left colon resection and anastomosis were performed in both groups and samples from liver and abdominal aorta were taken to evaluate the systemic effects of hypercholesterolemia. Anastomotic wound healing, blow-out pressures and tissue hydroxyproline levels were evaluated. RESULTS： The test group had a significant weight gain in two months. Microscopic examination of the abdominal aorta revealed no atherosderotic change in none of the groups, but liver tissue specimens showed significant steatosis in the test group. Tissue hydroxyproline levels and anastomotic blow-out pressures were significantly lower in the test group than in the controls. CoNCLUSIoN： Hypercholesterolemia not only increases hydroxyproline levels and blow-out pressures but also worsens anastomotic wound healing.

Numerical and back analysis-based methodology for support design of cut slopes at the Turkish – Georgian Border(NE Turkey)

In this study, geophysical and geotechnical studies were carried out in NE Turkey to evaluate the stability and support design of cut slopes that will be excavated during the construction of a new border control complex. 13 vertical and 3 inclined boreholes were drilled, and 2D electrical resistivity tomography surveys were conducted along 8 profiles to investigate the horizontal and vertical continuity of the geological units. Strength characteristics of all units were determined by laboratory tests. Limit equilibrium(LE) slope stability analyses were conducted on the geological model for static and pseudo-static conditions and factor of safety values as low as 0.227 were determined for post-excavation. Back analysis was conducted for the determination of required support forces on the slopes to achieve a factor of safety of 1.3. A feasible support system consisting of bored piles and rock anchors was designed based on back analysis results for each cut slope. LE analyses were repeated after the implementation of the designed support systems and the lowest factor of safety value increased to 1.35. The utility and safety of the designed support systems were investigated using finite element slope stability analyses and strength reduction factor values higher than 1.3 were determined which means support systems will function as intended and no support failure will occur. Lastly, quick reference charts were created for alluvium and residual soil materials to easily determine the safe slope angle in the future in case no support measures will be applied.
