Objective:To compare the protective effects of the water extracts of seven herbs,including Solanum indicum L.,Mallotus repandus(Wild)Muell-Arg.(MRM),Bombax malabarica DC(BMDC),Tadehagi triquetrum(L.)Ohashi(TTLO),Clinacanthus nutans(Burm f.)Lindau,Salvia plebeia ***(SPRB),Ixeris chinensis Mak(ICM),against tert-butylhydroperoxide(t-BHP)-induced oxidative stress in Clone 9 ***:To evaluate the antioxidant properties of water extracts from seven herbs,reducing ability,metal-chelating activity and radical-scavenging activity such as 2,2′-azino-bis(3-ethylbenzothiazoline-6-sulphonic acid)radical cation and 1,1-diphenyl-2-picrylhydrazyl(DPPH)were *** cellular systems,t-BHP was used as a model oxidant to induce oxidative stress.2′,7′-Dichlorofluorescin diacetate and chloromethylfluorescein-diacetate were used as fluorescence probe to determine reactive oxygen species generation and glutathione level in t-BHP-induced Clone 9 cells,*** addition,total tannins,total anthocyanins,total polyphenolics and flavonoids were ***:According to the data obtained from the trolox equivalent antioxidant capacity method,DPPH radical scavenging assay and reducing ability determination,MRM,SPRB,and BMDC showed relatively high antioxidant properties while TTLO and ICM were in the middle and Solanum indicum and Clinacanthus nutans had relatively low *** cellular model systems,SPRB,BMDC,and TTLO showed higher protective effects against t-BHP-induced oxidative ***,ICM,and TTLO displayed higher inhibitory effects on reactive oxygen species generation in t-BHP-induced Clone 9 *** addition,SPRB,MRM,and BMDC showed significantly positive modulated glutathione ***,anthocyanins,flavonoids and polyphenolics were present in the herbs,which may in part contribute to regulating the oxidative ***:These results indicated that the seven selected herbs may play a crucial role in regulating oxidative stress,especially B

Background Many cases of ClassⅡdeformities have been reported to be treated with prefabricated *** aim of this study was to distinguish the clinical effect of traditional custom-made appliances and prefabricated appliances in the treatment of ClassⅡdivision 1 ***,soft and hard tissue changes following treatment of ClassⅡdivision 1 malocclusion using the twin-block(TB)appliance was compared to that using the Myofunctional Research Company(MRC)appliance(K1+K2)combined with oral myofunctional treatment(OMT)(MRC+OMT).Methods The study included 22 children(6 boys and 16 girls aged 9–11 years)with ClassⅡdivision 1 malocclusion along with mandibular retrognathism with a 5–12 mm overjet,basic normal maxillary status,and stage 2 or 3 cervical vertebral maturation(CVM).Participants were randomly assigned into two groups,the TB group and the MRC+OMT group for 12 *** lateral cephalograms were used to assess skeletal,dental,and soft tissue changes from pre-to *** t-tests were used to compare the initial and final cephalometric status and tissue changes between the *** The TB and MRC+OMT groups resulted in different degrees of lateral changes;however,improvements of skeletal and soft tissue indices were significantly greater in the TB group than in the MRC+OMT *** TB was more effective than MRC+OMT in treating children aged 9–11 years with ClassⅡdivision 1 ***,further research using custom-made appliances with OMT is recommended,and further investigations are needed to confirm these findings.

Fabrication and properties of anodic alumina humidity sensor with through-hole structure

Through-hole structural humidity sensor was fabricated by radio-frequency magnetron sputtering deposition of gold electrodes on two sides of anodic aluminum oxide (AAO) membranes which were prepared by two-step anodization procedure at 0―5℃ and 40 V in 0.5 mol/L oxalic acid electrolyte. The investigation on the impedance at various humid conditions showed a linear relationship between im- pedance and relative humidity over the range of 12%―97% RH. Other excellent properties such as rapid response and good reproducibility were also obtained.

Performance of free gases during the recovery enhancement of shale gas by CO_(2) injection:a case study on the depleted Wufeng–Longmaxi shale in northeastern Sichuan Basin,china

In this work, a novel thermal–hydraulic–mechanical (THM) coupling model is developed, where the real geological parameters of the reservoir properties are embedded. Accordingly, nine schemes of CO_(2) injection well (IW) and CH_(4) production well (PW) are established, aiming to explore the behavior of free gases after CO_(2) is injected into the depleted Wufeng–Longmaxi shale. The results indicate the free CH4 or CO2 content in the shale fractures/matrix is invariably heterogeneous. The CO_(2) involvement facilitates the ratio of free CH_(4)/CO_(2) in the matrix to that in the fractures declines and tends to be stable with time. Different combinations of IW–PWs induce a difference in the ratio of the free CH4 to the free CO_(2), in the ratio of the free CH_(4)/CO_(2) in the matrix to that in the fractures, in the content of the recovered free CH_(4), and in the content of the trapped free CO_(2). Basically, when the IW locates at the bottom Wufeng–Longmaxi shale, a farther IW–PWs distance allows more CO2 in the free phase to be trapped;furthermore, no matter where the IW is, a shorter IW–PWs distance benefits by getting more CH_(4) in the free phase recovered from the depleted Wufeng–Longmaxi shale. Hopefully, this work is helpful in gaining knowledge about the shale-based CO_(2) injection technique.

Problem-based learning（PBL） has always been an important issue in teaching methods. Coupled with the prevalence of blended learning, the problem-based learning has often been the way to the implementation of e-learning. There are also many researches about the effectiveness of problem-based learning and e-learning, however, there is the lack of an objective appraisal in empirical researches. Even though there are many research results of problem-based learning and e-learning can be referred, but how to consider the further effectiveness of problem-based e-learning is more important. Meta-analysis is used to conduct this study, and through literature reviewing to combine more and higher level evidences. Further more, using quantitative method to analyze these researches, and verifying the effectiveness of problem-based e-learning.

This study aimed to develop a new junior doctor allocation plan,and evaluate its impact on the door-to-doctor time(DDT)of a specific patient population at the Accident&Emergency(A&E)department of Changi General Hospital(CGH)in *** new junior doctor allocation plan was developed by solving an integer linear programming model with the objective of matching available junior doctors with the patient arrival *** to the period prior to the new plan’s implementation at CGH A&E,the average daily median,95th percentile,and standard deviation of DDT of target population were observed to have been reduced by 9.7 minutes(27.3%),24.5 minutes(21.9%),and 8.5 minutes(23.2%),respectively,in the post-implementation *** differences remained statistically significant after adjustment for differences in patient load and other relevant patient characteristics over the pre-and post-implementation ***,if not all,of the previous work on A&E staff allocation studies relied on simulation models to project the impact of new staff allocation plans on DDT *** did not report the extent of DDT improvement in the new plan actualized and experienced by A&E *** paper addresses this gap in A&E overcrowding management *** offers empirical evidence,from an operational A&E,on DDT improvements achieved through implementation of a new junior doctor allocation plan that better matched patient arrival pattern compared to the past.

Several nomograms for prostate cancer detection have recently been developed. Because the incidence of prostate cancer is lower in chinese men, nomograms based on other populations cannot be directly applied to chinese men. We, therefore, developed a model for predicting the probability of a positive initial prostate biopsy using clinical and laboratory data from a chinese male population. Data were collected from 893 chinese male referrals, 697 in the derivation set and 196 in the external validation set, who underwent initial prostate biopsies as individual screening. We analyzed age, prostate volume, total prostate-specific antigen （PSA）, PSA density （PSAD）, digital rectal examinations （DRE） and transrectal ultrasound （TRUS） echogenicity. Logistic regression analysis estimated odds ratio, 95% confidence intervals and Pvalues. Independent predictors of a positive biopsy result included advanced age, small prostate volume, elevated total PSA, abnormal digital rectal examination, and hyperechoic or hypoechoic TRUS echogenicity. We developed a predictive nomogram for an initial positive biopsy using these variables. The area under the receiver-operating characteristic curve for the model was 88.8%, which was greater than that of the prediction based on total PSA alone （area under the receiver-operating characteristic curve 74.7%）. If externally validated, the predictive probability was 0.827 and the accuracy rate was 78.1%, respectively. Incorporating clinical and laboratory data into a prebiopsy nomogram improved the prediction of prostate cancer compared with predictions based solely on the individual factors.

An Sm-Nd isotopic dating study of the Archean Kongling Complex in the Huangling area of the Yangtze Craton

Sm Nd isotopic compositions of associated amphibolites, TTG gneisses and granitic gneisses from the Archean Kongling Complex of the Yangtze Craton, South china are systematically analyzed. The results show that the amphibolites and TTG gneisses have a similar age of ca. 2 700 Ma, which well agrees with zircon U Pb dating of previous studies. However, their ε Nd ( t ) are different, suggestive of possible dissimilarity in source composition.
