The drying kinetics of Roselle （Hibiscus sabdariffa L） of variety Terengganu （UMKL-1） and the quality attribution of Roselle were studied. The experiments were conducted using four different drying methods, including solar greenhouse drying （SD）, solar greenhouse with intermittent heat pump drying （SIHP）, hot air drying （HA） and heat pump drying （HP）. Among the four drying methods, HP achieved the highest drying rate at a range from 0.054 g H20-（g DM）-1. rain-1 to 0.212 g H20-（g DM）-1. rain 1 while SD had the lowest drying rate, measured at 0.042 g H2O. （g DM） ***- 1. The analysis on colour kinetics revealed that there is no significant colour loss （p 〉 0.05） observed from HP＇s dried Roselle. Greater amount of flavonoid compounds i.e. protocatechuic acid was found in SD and SIHP dried finished product whereas HP＇s dried Roselle contains higher percentage of catechin as compared to other drying methods.

The ferric reducing antioxidant power, total phenolic content, radical scavenging activity, amino acid content and sugar content of spray dried Arenga pinnata juice powder were evaluated to determine the quality of spray dried powder obtained by spray drying of fresh Arenga pinnata juice at inlet temperature of 130 ℃, feed flow rate of 350 mL/h, outlet temperature of 70 ℃ and maltodextrin 10 DE addition at 20%. Powder obtained has a total phenolic compounds content of 5.82 mg/100 g of gallic acid equivalent （GAE） and antioxidant potential identified by free radical scavenging activity （IC50） was 0.6 μmol/g. The total sugar content ofArenga pinnata powder resulted in 30.14%. The analysis of free amino acids depicted the presence of lysine, glutamic acid, aspartic acid and alanine at higher levels. The nutritional profile of the powder is vital in delivering beneficial properties when reconstituted into juice.

Cloning of a novel phytase from an anaerobic rumen bacterium, Mitsuokella jalaludinii, and its expression in Escherichia coli

The ful length phytase gene of Mitsuokel a jalaludini was successful y cloned and was found to be 1 047 bp in length, with 348 amino acids, and was designated as PHY7 phytase gene. A comparison of the sequence of PHY7 phytase gene of M. jalaludini with various microbial phytase gene sequences showed that it was not similar to those from other bacteria except Selenomonas ruminatium, thus suggesting that they may both express a new class of phytase. The PHY7 phytase gene was subsequently subcloned into bacterial expression vector, pET32a, for expression in Escherichia coli strain Ro-setta-gami. Expression of the recombinant phytase gene was optimised and characterised. The recombinant phytase was estimated to be approximately 55 kDa by SDS-PAGE analysis. The recombinant phytase exhibited optimum activity at 55°C, pH 4.5 and showed good pH stability from pH 3.5 to 5.5 (>78%relative activity). Metal ions such as Ca2+, Mg2+, and K+were found to exert signiifcant stimulatory effect on the recombinant phytase activity while Cu2+, Fe3+, and Zn2+greatly inhibited the enzyme activity. The recombinant phytase showed moderate resistance to trypsin proteolysis, but susceptible to pepsin proteolysis. The results of the study showed that several characteristics of recombinant phytase were slightly different from the native enzyme. Unfavourable characteristics such as reduced pH stability and metal ion effects should be taken into consideration during feed enzyme formulation.

In recent decades,fog computing has played a vital role in executing parallel computational tasks,specifically,scientific workflow *** cloud data centers,fog computing takes more time to run workflow ***,it is essential to develop effective models for Virtual Machine(VM)allocation and task scheduling in fog computing *** task scheduling,VM migration,and allocation,altogether optimize the use of computational resources across different fog *** process ensures that the tasks are executed with minimal energy consumption,which reduces the chances of resource *** this manuscript,the proposed framework comprises two phases:(i)effective task scheduling using a fractional selectivity approach and(ii)VM allocation by proposing an algorithm by the name of Fitness Sharing Chaotic Particle Swarm Optimization(FSCPSO).The proposed FSCPSO algorithm integrates the concepts of chaos theory and fitness sharing that effectively balance both global exploration and local *** balance enables the use of a wide range of solutions that leads to minimal total cost and makespan,in comparison to other traditional optimization *** FSCPSO algorithm’s performance is analyzed using six evaluation measures namely,Load Balancing Level(LBL),Average Resource Utilization(ARU),total cost,makespan,energy consumption,and response *** relation to the conventional optimization algorithms,the FSCPSO algorithm achieves a higher LBL of 39.12%,ARU of 58.15%,a minimal total cost of 1175,and a makespan of 85.87 ms,particularly when evaluated for 50 tasks.

Tabletting Characteristics of the Selected Malaysian Herbs

This work describes a study of tabletting of selected Malaysian herbs such as Eurycoma longifolia Jack, Ficus deltoidea and Morinda citrifolia. These herbs are famous for their therapeutic properties and are used as herbal medicine or as medicinal food. A cylindrical uniaxial die of 13 mm was used to compress the herb powders into tablets. Pressures ranging from 7.5 MPa to 75 MPa were applied using a universal testing machine. Two feed weights, 0.5 g and 1.0 g, were used to produce the tablets. A binder, the microcrystalline cellulose known as Avicel, was used to investigate its effect on tabletting. Properties associated with both the binder and the compounds were studied, and binary mixtures with compositions ranging from 10% to 60% were examined. The strength of the herb tablets was then tested using an indirect tensile strength test. Upon compression, the Morinda citrifolia powder showed the highest density compared to that of Avicel. However, due to its high elasticity, the tensile strength of the Morinda citrifolia tablet was the lowest. The experimental data were also verified using an established model for compression property development. The results indicated that this simple approach can be used to understand the tabletting characteristics of these herbs.

A series of thermoplastic polyester elastomer (TPEE) and thermoplastic poly(ester amide)s elastomer (TPEaE)copolymers were obtained by depolymerizing PET (polyethylene terephthalate) by which the waste PET canbe efficiently recovered and recycled into value-added products from a practical and economical point of *** structure of TPEE and TPEaE was identified using nuclear magnetic resonance (NMR) and Fourier transforminfrared spectroscopy (FT-IR). Differential scanning calorimetry (DSC) data showed that the melting temperature(Tm) decreased with the amide content increased. The glass transition temperature (Tg) was increased as introducingthe amide group, and the formation of amide-ester and amide-amide hydrogen bonds increased the intermolecularchain force. The intrinsic viscosity (η) showed the tendency of increment from TPEE (0.53 dL g^(−1)) to TPEaE-5%(0.72 dL g^(−1)) due to the reinforcement of hydrogen bond and chain entanglement.

This study aimed to assess the inhibitory activities of methanol extracts from the microalgae Ankistrodesmus convolutus,Synechococcus elongatus,and Spirulina platensis against Epstein-Barr virus(EBV) in three Burkitt's lymphoma(BL) cell lines,namely Akata,B95-8,and *** antiviral activity was assessed by quantifying the cell-free EBV DNA using real-time polymerase chain reaction(PCR) *** methanol extracts from Ankistrodesmus convolutus and Synechococcus elongatus displayed low cytotoxicity and potent effect in re-ducing cell-free EBV DNA(EC5028 000).After fractionation by column chromatography,the fraction from Synechococcus elongatus(SEF1) reduced the cell-free EBV DNA most effectively(EC50=2.9 μg/ml,therapeutic index>69).Upon further fractionation by high performance liquid chromatography(HPLC),the sub-fraction SEF1'a was most active in reducing the cell-free EBV DNA(EC50=1.38 μg/ml,therapeutic index>14.5).This study suggests that microalgae could be a potential source of antiviral compounds that can be used against EBV.
