Excessive heavy metal concentrations in water can pose a threat to human *** research analyzed 160 groundwater samples used for hygiene and sanitation,of which 62 were used for consumption,and 98 other types of drinking water were *** research findings indicate that 6%of groundwater for hygiene and sanitation and 13%of drinking water(7.8%groundwater,5.2%refill water)were deemed unfit for use due to elevated concentrations of certain heavy metals surpassing the maximum ***,Cd,Co,Hg,Mn,and Pb were detected in several drinking water samples deemed unsuitable for *** heavy metals suspected to originate from natural sources are Co,Fe,Mn,As,and Zn,while Pb,Cd,Hg,and Co are suspected to have anthropogenic *** arsenic exposure through the ingestion pathway posed a non-carcinogenic health risk to the local *** were found to be more susceptible than adult males and *** estimated average non-carcinogenic risk levels based on the water sources were refill water>well water>rainwater>spring ***,it is essential to monitor raw water sources at refill water depots in the study area and implement policies related to the quality of raw water sources,technology maintenance processes,and the quality of processed water from refill water ***,the community should be educated about householdscale water treatment to minimize health risks and consider using untreated well water and rainwater for consumption.

This research investigates the arsenic concentrations in 96 soil samples from a regency in Indonesia using a statistical *** samples were collected from three depth layers(topsoil[10e20 cm],subsoil[50e60 cm],and deep soil[90e100 cm]),with each layer consisting of 32 *** analysis using SPSS was employed to analyze potential arsenic sources based on the proximity of study locations to geothermal system areas,land use,distance from industry,and the presence of study locations on fault *** findings indicate that the potential source of arsenic contamination in the soil are suspected to be associated with geothermal system activities and the presence of soil samples on fault *** arsenic concentration in locations near to the geothermal system(5-10 km)was 45 times higher(OR=45,95%CI=45e362.57,ptopsoil>deep soil,whereas in residential soil,it was subsoil>deep soil>*** arsenic concentration variation at near distances from industrial areas was topsoil>subsoil>deep soil,contrasting with medium to far distances from industry(subsoil>deep soil>topsoil).Therefore,these findings can be utilized to prioritize remediation efforts and provide input for future research on arsenic contamination in the region.

Mineralogy and geochemistry of siliciclastic Miocene Cuddalore Formation,Cauvery Basin,South India:Implications for provenance and paleoclimate

The Cuddalore Formation of the Cauvery Basin received siliciclastic detritus from inland areas of the Southern Granulite Terrain(SGT).It represented continental-fluvial sedimentation in the eastern continental margin of South India during the *** Summer Monsoon was thought to be initiated in the early Miocene and intensified during the middle Miocene causing major climatic shifts in the Indian *** the present work,detailed mineralogical and geochemical studies on the siliciclastic Cuddalore Formation have been carried out to understand the provenance and paleoclimatic conditions during the *** paleocurrent direction,textural immaturity and framework detrital modes of sandstones suggest rapid uplift of basement and sediment source from nearby Madras Block of *** diagnostic immobile trace element ratios such as Th/Sc,Co/Th,La/Sc,La/Co suggest a tonalite-trondhjemite-granodiorite-charnockite provenance,and somewhat more felsic composition of source area compared to the present upper continental crust(UCC).Rare earth element mixed model suggests that sediments were dominantly(80%)sourced from felsic charnockite,with a minor contribution(20%)from mafic *** abundance of advanced-weathering products like kaolinite,very high(>98)chemical index of alteration(CIA)values,severe depletion of mobile elements(Ca,Na,K,Mg,Ba,Rb)in comparison to UCC,significantly higher a Mg,a Ca,a Na,a K,a Sr and a Ba values(higher than the unity),all suggest the extreme chemical weathering in source terrain and/or in the sedimentary *** based on CIA show high average surface temperature between 29.3℃and 29.5℃and high mean annual precipitation ranging from 2339 mm/yr to 2467 mm/*** geochemical data are consistent with the paleogeographic position of the depositional basin(Cauvery Basin)and suggest the deposition of Cuddalore sediments(the Cuddalore Formation)in a nearequatorial location under a warm climate condition with abunda

Modelling of heat transfer for progressive freeze concentration process by spiral finned crystallizer

This study presents a novel design for a spiral finned crystallizer which is the primary element of progressive freeze concentration(PFC) system, which simplifies the setup of the conventional system. After the crystallizer has been designed, the research experiments have been conducted and evaluated through a thorough analysis of its performance by developing a mathematical model that can be used to predict the productivity of ice crystal at a range of coolant temperature. The model is developed based on the basic heat transfer equation, and by considering the solution's and the coolant's convective heat transfer coefficient(h) under the forced flow *** model's accuracy is verified by making comparison between the ice crystal mass' experimental value and the values predicted by the model. Consequently, the study found that the model helps in enhancing the PFC system.

Tidal triggering of seismicity in the region of Palu, Central Sulawesi, Indonesia

This paper investigates the correlation between tidal stress and earthquakes for periods ranging from hours to months in the limited zone of the Palu region(Central Sulawesi,Indonesia).Through Schuster and binomial tests,we examined the relation between the seismicity(time density of seismic events)and tidal potential arising from the Moon and Sun,using all tidal components simultaneously and focusing on the estimation of specific *** results show significant correlations between the seismicity and tidal potential for S2(0.5 d)and O1(1.075 d)tidal components in the case of solely isolated earthquake events,particularly for shallow ***,there is a strong relationship between aftershocks and tidal components larger than the Mf period(13.661 d).Finally,the analysis of the temporal variation of the earthquake-tide relation reveals an optimal correlation for about six years before the 2018 great Palu *** correlation becomes insignificant afterwards.

Parametric study and effect of calcination and carbonation conditions on the CO_2 capture performance of lithium orthosilicate sorbent

The world is currently facing the challenges of global warming and climate change. Numerous efforts have been taken to mitigate CO2 emission, among which is the use of solid sorbents for CO2 capture. In this work, Li4SiO4 was synthesised via a sol-gel method using lithium nitrate （LiNO3） and tetraethylorthosilicate （SiC8H20O4） as precursors. A parametric study of Li：Si molar ratio （1-5）, calcination temperature （600-800℃） and calcination time （1-8 h） were conducted during sorbent synthesis. Calcination temperature （700-800℃） and carbonation temperature （500-700℃） during CO2 sorption activity were also varied to confirm the optimum operating temperature. Sorbent with the highest CO2 sorption capacity was finally introduced to several cyclic tests to study the durability of the sorbent through 10 cycles of CO2 sorption-desorption test. The results showed that the calcination temperature of 800℃ and carbonation temperature of 700℃ were the best operating temperatures, with CO2 sorption capacity of 7.95 mmol CO2·（g sorbent）^-1 （93% of the theoretical yield）. Throughout the ten cyclic processes, CO2 sorption capacity of the sorbent had dropped approximately 16.2% from the first to the tenth cycle, which was a reasonable decline. Thus, it was concluded that Li4SiO4 is a potential CO2 solid sorbent for high temperature CO2 capture activity.

Iron deficiency anemia is one of the most common micronutrient deficient conditions around the globe with various consequences,including the weakened immune *** is widely distributed bioflavonoid;it has been debated for its dual roles in iron ***-iron interaction in the body is a complex mechanism which has not been completely *** present study aimed to investigate the effect of quercetin on iron supplementation in iron deficiency anemia and on i NOS expression in splenic *** rat model of iron deficiency anemia was induced by feeding low iron diet to weanling rats for 20 *** animals were then administered with ferrous sulfate,quercetin,and their combination for 30 *** parameters,histopathological analysis,iron storage,CD68,i NOS and SLC40 expression in rat spleen were *** results showed that quercetin regulated iron absorption,despite SLC40 down-expression,indicating possible alternate route of iron transport,and that quercetin modulated i NOS production in splenic macrophages..

Linear feedback-based control of blood glucose in a modified model for glucose-insulin kinetics： A theoretical study

In this paper, we present a modified minima] model for glucose and insulin kinetics model. The model proposed here is a smooth approximation of the original non-smooth minimal model. The dynamical properties like dissipativity, existence of equilibrium and stability of the system at the equilibrium points are investigated. A linear feedback-based control strategy is studied to control the blood glucose level in the situation where the physical system fails to regulate the blood glucose level automatically. A critical control parameter value kc is determined in terms of the system parameters. Extensive numerical simulation is performed with different parameter sets. Assuming different values for the feedback gain parameter, ranges of physiological parameter a are determined where the feedback gain is sufficient to stabilize the control system.

Prevalence and risk factors associated with tuberculosis mortality in Brunei Darussalam

Objective:To determine the prevalence and risk factors associated with tuberculosis mortality in Brunei Darussalam and to explore its underlying ***:A retrospective cohort study was conducted where data on socio-demographics,clinical characteristics and treatment outcomes of all tuberculosis patients registered at the National tuberculosis Coordinating Centre between 2013 and 2017 were *** tuberculosis mortality and the proportion of tuberculosis-related deaths were *** regression analysis was used to determine the risk factors of tuberculosis mortality when compared to those who are cured and/or completed tuberculosis ***:Of 1107 tuberculosis cases,99 died,giving an overall tuberculosis mortality rate of 8.9%(95%CI 7.4%-10.8%).Significant risk factors associated with tuberculosis mortality were age≥40 years(adjusted OR for 40-59 years was 3.89;95%CI 1.13-1.69;adjusted OR for≥60 years was 22.3;95%CI 7.27-91.9,using 20-39 years as reference),female sex(adjusted OR 1.74;95%CI 1.09-2.79),having renal disease(adjusted OR 25.7;95%CI 2.82-191.50)and having any cancers(adjusted OR 3.61;95%CI 1.26-10.00).The majority(75.8%)of the recorded deaths were not related to ***:Tuberculosis patients who were older than 40 years,female,and having renal disease and any cancer will need close monitoring in their management program to prevent tuberculosis *** should also focus on other non-tuberculosis aspects of the patient’s medical history.

Minimizing FWM Impact in DWDM ROF DP-DQPSK System for Optical

The demonstration of a higher data rate transmission system was amajor aspect to be considered by researchers in recent years. The most relevantaspect to be studied and analyzed is the need for a reliable system to handlenonlinear impairments and reduce them. Therefore, this paper examines theinfluence of Four-Wave Mixing (FWM) impairment on the proposed highdata rate Dual polarization–Differential Quadrature phase shift keying (DPDQPSK)system using the Optisystem software. In the beginning, the impactof varied input power on the proposed system’s performance was evaluated interms of QF and BER metrics. More power is used to improve system ***, increasing power would raise theFWMeffects. Accordingly,a−10dBminput power and the proposed system are used to reduce the impactof FWM. Additionally, a hybrid amplification method is proposed to enhancesystem performance by utilizing the major amplification methods of erbiumdopedfiber amplifier (EDFA): semiconductor optical amplifier (SOA) andRadio optical amplifier (ROA). The evaluation demonstrates that the OAEDFAoutperformed the other two key amplification techniques of (EDFASOA)and (EDFA-ROA) in improving Quality factor (QF) and Bit error rate(BER) system results for all distances up to 720 km. Consequently, the methodcontributes to minimizing the impact of FWM. In the future, other forms ofnonlinearity will be investigated and studied to quantify their impact on theproposed system.
