Salivary leptin concentrations in Bruneian secondary school children

Objective:To investigate the association between leptin levels and body mass index in Bruneian secondary school ***:The body mass index of Bruneian secondary school students(aged 11–18years) was determined before collecting their saliva using the passive drool *** leptin concentration was determined by ***:Correlation and partial correlation(controlled for age) analyses showed no significant differences between the levels of salivary leptin of normal weight and overweight ***:No significant increase in the salivary leptin concentration was observed in overweight compared with normal weight Bruneian secondary school students.

Predictors of successfully quitting smoking among smokers registered at the quit smoking clinic at a public hospital in northeastern Malaysia

Objective:The objectives of this study were to determine the proportion of smokers regis-tered at the quit smoking clinic at a public hospital in northeastern Malaysia who successfully quit smoking and the predictive factors for successfully quitting ***:This was a cross-sectional study involving smokers aged more than 18 years old and registered with the clinic from January 1,2012,to October 31,*** were obtained with a designed questionnaire that consisted of sociodemographic information,medical history,smoking characteristics,and type of treatment received by *** who quit smoking 6 months after being registered at the quit smoking clinic were considered as successful *** lo-gistic regression was applied to determine the predictive factors for successfully quitting ***:From a total of 202 respondents,42.6%[95%confidence interval(CI)35.8-49.4%]of them successfully quit *** logistic regression showed that the number of ciga-rettes smoked per day(adjusted odds ratio 2.51,95%CI 1.17-5.41)and a previous quit attempt(adjusted odds ratio 1.88,95%CI 1.03-3.44)were significant predictors for successfully quitting ***:This study shows that the proportion of smokers who successfully quit smoking among smokers registered at the quit smoking clinic was relatively high.A number of cigarettes smoked per day of 20 or fewer and a previous quit attempt significantly predict successful quitting of smoking.

Political Philosophy of Al-Ghazali

The article is dedicated to the major issues of the political philosophy of the prominent medieval philosopher of the Muslim East al-ghazali(1058-1111). It is exactly the consideration of both the historical circumstances and political practice of the state(Caliphate/Imamate) of his days that allowed al-ghazali to re-examine the traditional Sunni dogma of combining the authority and power, and to take a different look at the nature of the state in his teaching about the Imamate, which differed both from the model found during the reign of the Prophet and the Rashidun Caliphs, and from alghazali's predecessors and contemporaries among the fuqaha(the Islamic jurists) and ulama(the scholars of Islamic doctrine and law).
