Nocardia infections among immunomodulated inflammatory bowel disease patients:A review

Human nocardiosis,caused by Nocardia spp.,an ubiquitous soil-borne bacteria,is a rare granulomatous disease close related to immune *** can occur as an acute life-threatening disease,with lung,brain and skin being commonly *** infection was classically diagnosed in HIV infected persons,organ transplanted recipients and long term corticosteroid treated *** the widespread use of immunomodulators and immunossupressors in the treatment of inflammatory diseases changed this *** purpose is to review all published cases of nocardiosis in immunomodulated patients due to inflammatory diseases and describe clinical and laboratory *** reviewed the literature concerning human cases of nocardiosis published between 1980 and 2014 in peer reviewed *** cases of nocardiosis associated with anti-tumor necrosis factor(TNF) prescription(9 related with infliximab and 2 with adalimumab) were identified; 7 patients had inflammatory bowel disease(IBD),4 had rheumatological conditions; nocardia infection presented as cutaneous involvement in 3 patients,lung disease in 4 patients,hepatic in one and disseminated disease in 3 *** the 10 cases described in IBD patients 7 were associated with anti-TNF and 3 with steroids and *** conclusion,nocardiosis requires high levels of clinical suspicion and experience of laboratory staff,in order to establish a timely diagnosis and by doing so avoid worst *** for long periods tailored by the susceptibility of the isolated species whenever possible is *** safety of restarting immunomodulators or anti-TNF after the disease or the value of prophylaxis with cotrimoxazole is still debated.

Aljustrel mines were classified as having high environmental hazard due to their large tailings volume and high metal concentrations in waters and *** assess acid mine drainage impacted systems whose environmental conditions change quickly,the use of biological indicators with short generation time such as diatoms is *** study combined geochemical and diatom data,whose results were highlighted in 3 groups：Group 1,with low p H（1.9–5.1）and high metal/metalloid（Al,As,Cd,Co,Cu,Fe,Mn,Ni,Pb,Zn;0.65–1032 mg/L）and SO4（405–39124 mg/L）*** acidophilic species,Pinnularia aljustrelica,was perfectly adapted to the adverse conditions;in contrast,teratological forms of Eunotia exigua were found,showing that metal toxicity affected this *** low availability of metals/metalloids in sediments of this group indicates that metals/metalloids of the exchangeable fractions had been solubilized,which in fact enables metal/metalloid diatom uptake and consequently the occurrence of teratologies;Group 2,with sites of near neutral p H（5.0–6.8）and intermediate metal/metalloid（0.002–6 mg/L）and SO4（302–2179 mg/L）concentrations;this enabled the existence of typical species of uncontaminated streams（Brachysira neglectissima,Achnanthidium minutissimum）;Group 3,with samples from unimpacted sites,showing low metal/metalloid（0–0.8 mg/L）and SO4（10–315 mg/L）concentrations,high pH（7.0–8.4）and Cl contents（10–2119 mg/L）and the presence of brackish to marine species（Entomoneis paludosa）.For similar conditions of acidity,differences in diversity,abundance and teratologies of diatoms can be explained by the levels of metals/metalloids.

The economic, technological, and cultural transformations of our present society influence various scales of our daily lives. In housing, these transformations include changes in the family nucleus and the activities performed in living spaces. Housing flexibility seeks to meet the muitipte needs of users by changing their living spaces and functions. This study aims to explore housing flexibility through a review of relevant literature, discussion of valuable findings, and presentation of a contemporary panorama of the theme. Notions of flexibility are integrated to reinterpret the contemporary sense of dwelling. However, the lack of a well-defined concept of flexibility hinders the integration of methods and theories on the subject.

Fourier transform is applied to remove the time-dependent variable in the diffusion *** non-harmonic initial conditions this gives rise to a non-homogeneous Helmholtz equation,which is solved by the method of fundamental solutions and the method of particular *** particular solution of Helmholtz equation is available as shown in[4,15].The approximate solution in frequency domain is then inverted numerically using the inverse Fourier transform *** frequencies are used in order to avoid aliasing phenomena and to allow the computation of the static *** numerical examples are given to illustrate the effectiveness of the proposed approach for solving 2-D diffusion equations.

Alzheimer’s disease(AD)is the most common cause of dementia,afecting approximately 40 million people *** inefectiveness of the available pharmacological treatments against AD has fostered researchers to focus on alternative strategies to overcome this *** vibrations delivered in diferent stimulation modes have been associated with marked improvements in cognitive and physical performance in both demented and nondemented *** of the mechanical-based stimulation modalities in eforts are earlier whole-body vibration,transcranial ultrasound stimulation with microbubble injection,and more recently,auditory ***,there is a huge variety of treatment specifcations,and in many cases,conficting results are *** this review,a search on Scopus,PubMed,and Web of Science databases was performed,resulting in 37 *** studies suggest that mechanical vibrations delivered through diferent stimulation modes are efective in attenuating many parameters of AD pathology including functional connectivity and neuronal circuit integrity defcits in the brains of AD patients,as well as in subjects with cognitive decline and non-demented older *** the evolving preclinical and clinical evidence on these therapeutic modalities,their translation into clinical practice is not consolidated ***,this comprehensive and critical systematic review aims to address the most important gaps in the reviewed protocols and propose optimal regimens for future clinical application.

Multifunctional antiperovskites driven by strong magnetostructural coupling

BACKGROUND Colorectal anastomotic leakage(CAL),a severe postoperative complication,is associated with high morbidity,hospital readmission,and overall healthcare *** detection of CAL remains a challenge in clinical ***,some decision models have been developed to increase the diagnostic accuracy of this *** To develop a score based on easily accessible variables to detect CAL *** Based on the least absolute shrinkage and selection operator method,a predictive classification system was developed[Early ColoRectAL Leakage(E-CRALL)score]from a prospective observational,single center cohort,carried out in a colorectal division from a non-academic *** score performance and CAL threshold from postoperative day(POD)3 to POD5 were *** on a precise analytical decision model,the standard clinical practice was compared with the E-CRALL adoption on POD3,POD4,or POD5.A cost-minimization analysis was conducted,on the assumption that all alternatives delivered similar health-related *** In this study,396 patients who underwent colorectal resection surgery with anastomosis,and 6.3%(n=25)developed *** of the patients who developed CAL(n=23;92%)were diagnosed during the first hospital admission,with a median time of diagnosis of 9.0±6.8 *** POD3 to POD5,the area under the receiver operating characteristic curve of the E-CRALL score was 0.82,0.84,and 0.95,*** POD5,if a threshold of 8.29 was chosen,87.4%of anastomotic failures were identified with E-CRALL ***,score usage could anticipate CAL diagnosis in an average of 5.2 d and 4.1 d,if used on POD3 and POD5,*** of score adoption,episode comprehensive costs were markedly greater(up to four times)in patients who developed CAL in comparison with patients who did not develop ***,the use of the E-CRALL warning score was associated with cost savings of€421442.20,with most(92.9%)of the savings from patients

Legal and Forensic Medicine is the application of medical knowledge and methodology for the resolution of legal questions and problems for individuals and society[1].In the Categories&Collections Scope Notes on Web of Science Core Collection in the Web of Science(WoS)Master journal List,the category“Medicine,Legal”is described as“covering resources on all aspects of medical legal issues,including government regulations and policies,malpractice,toxicological and pharmacological regulations,clinical therapeutic patents and other critical legal issues at the interface of law,medicine,and healthcare”.This also“covers resources dealing with the various branches of forensic science”[2].In this study,we aimed to illustrate those journals included in the category of“Medicine,Legal”in the WoS Core Collection,and to assess the rapid development of the journal Forensic Sciences Research(FSR)by comparing it with other related journals to determine whether FSR can fill a gap in the category“Medicine,Legal”of Science Citation Index Expanded(SCIE)in the WoS Core Collection.

Thermodynamical and topological properties of metastable Fe_(3)Sn

The Fe–Sn-based kagome compounds attract intensive attention due to its attractive topological transport and rich magnetic *** experimental data,first-principles calculations,and Calphad assessment,thermodynamic and topological transport properties of the Fe–Sn system were *** functional theory(DFT)calculations were performed to evaluate the intermetallics’finite-temperature heat capacity(C_(p)).A consistent thermodynamic assessment of the Fe–Sn phase diagram was achieved by using the experimental and DFT results,together with all available data from previous ***,we report that the metastable phase Fe_(3)Sn was introduced into the current metastable phase diagram,and corrected phase locations of Fe_(5)Sn_(3)and Fe_(3)Sn_(2)under the newly measured corrected temperature ***,the anomalous Hall conductivity and anomalous Nernst conductivity of Fe_(3)Sn were calculated,with magnetization directions and doping considered as perturbations to tune such transport *** was observed that the enhanced anomalous Hall and Nernst conductivities originate from the combination of nodal lines and small gap areas that can be tuned by doping Mn at Fe sites and varying magnetization direction.
