Factors Associated with Closely Spaced Pregnancies at the Departmental hospital Centre of Zou-Collines (Benin) in 2022

Introduction: Birth spacing to prevent closely-spaced pregnancies, which are a source of maternal and neonatal morbidity and mortality, is not always respected by our women, as recommended by the World health Organization (WhO). The objective was to study the factors associated with closely-spaced pregnancies among women followed at the Departmental hospital Center du Zou et du Colline (DhC/Z-C) in 2022. Study Method: This was a descriptive, analytical cross-sectional study with prospective data collection from 20 May to 30 June 2022. Results: At the end of the study, 83 of the 117 women surveyed had close pregnancies, a frequency of 70.94%. They had an average age of 27.0 ± 6.3 years and were of Fon ethnicity and related in 91.57% of cases. The majority were married (96.60%). The factors significantly associated with these closely spaced pregnancies were age between 25 and 30 years, household occupation, age at first birth, age at marriage, women’s perception of contraceptive method (CM), women’s knowledge of the existence of a center providing family planning services and non-use of MC. Conclusion: Close pregnancies are still very common in the commune of Abomey. It is therefore important to increase the use of contraceptive methods in this part of the country.

The growth of environmental energy harvesting has been explosive in wireless computing systems especially when replacing or recharging batteries manually is *** work investigates the scheduling of periodic weekly hard real-time tasks under energy *** on this motivation,we proposed a real-time scheduling algorithm,namely energy guarantee dynamic voltage and frequency scaling(EG-DVFS),that utilizes the earliest deadline-harvesting(ED-h)scheduling algorithm combined with dynamic voltage and frequency *** one is qualified as real-time since tasks must satisfy their timing *** assume that the preemptable tasks receive dynamic priorities according to the earliest deadline first(EDF)***-DVFS adjusts the processor's behavior by characterizing the properties of the energy source module,capacity of the stored energy as well as the harvested energy in a future ***,tasks are executed at full processor speed if the amount of energy in the battery is enough to finish its ***,the processor slows down task execution to the lowest possible processor speed while still guaranteeing to meet all the timing ***-DVFS mainly depends on the on-line computation of the slack time and the slack energy with dynamic voltage and frequency selection in order to achieve an improved system *** results show that EG-DVFS can achieve capacity savings up of up to 33%when compared to ED-h.

Macrocycle-based glycoclusters, on account of their promising anti-adhesive properties against bacteria,are potential therapeutic alternatives to classic antibiotics through the much less explored anti-adhesive strategy. In this study, a series of constitutionally-pure pentavalent glycoclusters was prepared by conjugating assorted azido-carbohydrates onto a penta-propargyl rim-differentiated pillar[5]arene(RD-P[5])scaffold through Cu(I)-catalyzed azide–alkyne cycloaddition “click” reactions. Their binding towards therapeutically relevant bacterial lectins, such as Lec A and Lec B from Pseudomonas aeruginosa and concanavalin A(Con A), were evaluated subsequently by isothermal titration calorimetric studies. Most of these isomerfree RD-P[5] pentavalent glycoclusters, except the fucosylated ones, display good affinities to ***, the dissociation constants observed are similar to those displayed by an analogous pentavalent glycocluster consisting of four P[5] constitutional isomers, in which the RD-P[5] component merely accounts for 7% in the mixture. Our results revealed that high constitutional purity is not essential for achieving effective multivalent interactions between P[5]-based glycoclusters and lectins, presumably as a result of the conformationally labile nature of the P[5] scaffold. This information provides valuable design principles for low-cost and facile syntheses of glycosylated P[5]s for biomedical applications.

Therapeutic and Prognostic Aspects of Gynecological and Breast Cancers in Northern Benin from 2010 to 2020

Introduction: Gynaecological and Breast Cancers (GBCs) are a public health problem and management continues to be a concern. Objective: To study the therapeutic and prognostic aspects of GBC. Method: This was a cross-sectional and descriptive study from January 1, 2010, to December 31, 2020. It included cases where the diagnosis of GBC was made and confirmed on anatomopathological examination and where treatment was instituted. Male breast cancer cases were excluded. Data were entered and processed by Epi data 3.1.1. and Epi Info 7.***.0.1. Results: A total of 230 cases of GBC were collected. The mean age was 48.4 ± 11.14 years with extremes of 15 and 80 years. The cancers were of the breast (55.2%), cervix (28.8%), corpus uteri (7.8%), ovary (5.2%), vulva (1.7%) and vagina (1.3%). Of the 127 breast cancers, 107 (70.10%) women had undergone total or partial mastectomy with 89 cases of lymph node dissection (83.20%). hormone therapy was instituted in 89 women (71.8%), chemotherapy in 87 women (81.3%), 27 (21.25%) had undergone immunohistochemistry (IhC). histopronostic grades were specified in 96 cases, including 12 (12.5%) grade I, 60 (62.5%) grades II and 24 (25%) grade III. Of the 103 women with gynaecological cancer, 94.2% had received treatment, which was specific for 69 women (71.1%). Radiotherapy was not performed in any of the women. Among the 69 women, 8.7% of deaths were recorded. Conclusion: GBC is common in northern Benin. Their management is inadequate and mortality remains high. Priority should be given to prevention.

Introduction: Gynaecological and breast cancers (GBC) are the most frequent and most serious cancers of women. They are frequent in Benin with an average of 108.5 cases per year. Objective: To identify factors associated with women’s knowledge, attitudes and practices regarding GBC. Methods: This was a cross-sectional, prospective, descriptive and analytical study. Women of childbearing age residing in the commune of Glazoué in Benin for at least six months were included. The WhO cluster sampling technique was used. The Bruno De Finetti postulate and the Likert scale were used to study women’s knowledge, attitudes and practices. Data were collected and analysed using Epi Data 3.1 and Epi info 7.***.2.6 software. Results: A total of 540 women were registered. The mean age was 27.1 ± 8.84 years with extremes of 15 and 49 years. They were married (61.1%), had secondary education (40.2%) and lived in urban areas (61.9%). They had a low level of knowledge (75.4%), an adapted attitude (93.0%) and poor practice (88.9%). Occupation (p = 0.000), level of education (p = 0.007) and place of residence (p = 0.001) significantly influenced knowledge of GBC. The attitude was adequate (93%) and the practice was poor (88.9%). Inappropriate attitude was significantly associated with the level of education (p = 0.006). Conclusion: Women in the commune of Glazoué in Benin have a low level of knowledge of GBC with an adapted attitude and poor practice. Several factors are associated, hence the need to take them into account to facilitate GBC screening.

Background: Dysmenorrhea is a common symptom of gynecology that causes social and economic disruption in the lives of women who suffer from it. But many of them consider it inevitable and do not consult a health worker. Knowing the factors associated with this condition could help reduce its frequency and impact. Objective: To determine the prevalence and factors associated with dysmenorrhea in Benin in 2017. Method: This was a cross-sectional, descriptive and analytical study from 17 April to 17 May 2017. It involved 822 women aged 15 to 44 selected by a cluster sampling technique. Information on socio-demographic characteristics, functional signs, and medical care was collected using questionnaires. AIM： To investigate the role of Beclin 1 on the susceptibility of hepG2 cells to undergo apoptosis after anti-Fas antibody or doxorubicin treatment. METhODS： Beclin 1 silencing was achieved using RNA interference. DNA ploidy, the percentage of apoptotic cells and the mitochondrial membrane potential were assessed by flow cytometry. Levels of Beclin 1, BCI-XL and cytochrome c, and the cleavage of poly （ADP-ribose） polymerase （PARP） were assayed by using Western blots. RESULTS： Beclin 1 expression decreased by 75% 72 h after Beclin 1 siRNA transfection. Partial Beclin 1 silencing significantly increased the percentage of subG1 cells 24 and 40 h after treatment with doxorubicin or anti-Fas antibody, respectively, and this potentiation was abrogated by treatment with a pan-caspase inhibitor. Partial Beclin 1 silencing also increased PARP cleavage, mitochondrial membrane depolarization and cytosolic cytochrome c. The pro-apoptotic consequences of partial Beclin 1 silencing were not associated with a decline in Bcl-XL expression.CONCLUSION： Partial Beclin 1 silencing aggravates mitochondrial permeabilization and apoptosis in hepG2 cells treated with an anti-Fas antibody or with doxorubicin.

Introduction: The use of oxytocic plants (OPs) to facilitate childbirth is old and it is a common practice in the world, particularly in northern Benin. Objective: To study the effect of oxytocic plants on the progress of labour. Materials and Method: This was a cross-sectional and analytical study with prospective data collection conducted in the public maternity hospitals of Parakou from 15 July 2022 to 15 August 2022. All the parturients admitted to the maternity units were included. Data were entered and processed using Epi Data 3.1fr, Epi info 7.***.3.3 and Excel 2010. The difference was statistically significant for a p-value of less than 0.05. Results: Of 297 parturients surveyed, 109 had used OPs, representing a frequency of use of 36.7%. The average age was 27.5 ± 8.9 years, with extremes of 17 and 45 years. They were in common-law unions (54.1%), housewives (32.1%), from Muslim religion (53.2%), from Bariba ethnic group and related (30.3%) and from a rural area (60.5%). These parturients were pauciparous (37.6%) and primiparous (44.9%). Six OPs were used by the parturients. These were hybanthus enneaspermus (40.7%), Schrankia leptocarpa (12.0%), Ceratotheca sesamoides (35.2%), Cassytha filiformis (5.6%), Selaginella lepidophylla (5.6%) and Newbouldia leavis (18.5%). The parturients used the leaves (90.6%) and decoction (97.2%). The administration was oral (99.0%) without precise dosage (85.3%) in the third trimester of pregnancy (84.41%) and facilitated delivery (99.1%). Fon and related ethnic groups (p = 0.014), Yoruba and related ethnic groups (p = 0.031), rural background (p = 0.032) and multiparity (p = 0.04) were the factors associated with OPs use. These parturients had a higher risk of caesarean delivery (p = 0.001;OR = 1.8 [1.23 - 2.65]), dynamic dystocia (p = 0.001;OR = 1.3 [1.12 - 1.49]), burnout syndrome (p = 0.002;OR = 1.1 [1.02 - 1.17]), uterine rupture (p = 0.032;OR = 1.1 [0.97 - 1.17]), rapid labour (p = 0.001;OR = 1.6 [1.38 - 2.00]), and risk

AIM： To investigate the effect of stable c-Fos over- expression on immortalized human hepatocyte （Ihh） proliferation. METhODS： Ihhs stably transfected with c-Fos （Ihh- Fos） or an empty vector （Ihh-C） were grown in me- dium supplemented with 1% serum or stimulated with 10% serum. Cell proliferation was assessed by cell counts, 3h-thymidine uptake and flow cytometry analyses. The levels of cell cycle regulatory proteins （Cyclin DI, E, A） cyclin dependent kinases （cdk） cdk2, cdk4, cdk6, and their inhibitors p15, p16, p21, p27, total and phosphorylated GSK-3β and epidermal growth factor receptor （EGF-R） were assayed by Western blotting. Analysis of O/c/in D1 mRNA levels was performed by reverse transcription-polymerase chain reaction and real-time polymerase chain reaction （PCR） analysis. Stability of Cyclin DI was studied by cycloheximide blockade experiments. RESULTS： Stable c-Fos overexpression increased cell proliferation under low serum conditions and resulted in a two-fold increase in [3h]-thymidine incorpora- tion following serum addition. Cell cycle analysis by flow cytometry showed that c-Fos accelerated the cell cycle kinetics. Following serum stimulation, Cyclin D1 was more abundantly expressed in c-Fos overexpress- ing cells. Cyclin D1 accumulation did not result from increased transcriptional activation, but from nuclear stabilization. Overexpression of c-Fos correlated with higher nuclear levels of inactive phosphorylated GSK- 3β, a kinase involved in Cyclin D1 degradation and higher levels of EGF-R mRNA, and EGF-R protein com- pared to Ihh-C both in serum starved, and in serum stimulated cells. Abrogation of EGF-R signalling in Ihh- Fos by treatment with AG1478, a specific EGF-R tyro- sine kinase inhibitor, prevented the phosphorylation of GSK-3β induced by serum stimulation and decreased Cyclin D1 stability in the nucleus.
