A comprehensive understanding of the complex biogeochemical interactions between organic matter and persistent contaminants in the suspended matter is vital for ecoefficient estuary ***,little is known regarding aeration effects in suspended particulate ***,this study aimed to investigate the effects of aeration on the suspended matter from a Tropical and Eutrophic estuarine *** water with 60 g/L of suspended particulate matter(SPm)was collected from Guanabara Bay,Rio de Janeiro,Brazil,transferred to experimental boxes and aerated for 61 *** aggregates monitoring included abiotic variables measurements and,determination of total organic matter(TOm),biopolymers composition,bacterial activity,trace metals,and polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons(PAHs)*** aeration enhanced dissolved oxygen(DO)concentration and the redox potential(Eh).However,from days 0 to 61 the predominant bacterial activities were denitrification and *** transport system activity increased after day 10,and aerobic activity was detected after day *** summary,aeration increased aerobic bacterial activity,lipids(LIP)and trace metal concentrations,although diminished protein/carbohydrate ratio and PAH *** metals concentration(Ni,Pb,Cu,Cr,mn,and Fe)were the highest on day 19 when the p H was *** presented toxic values(Cu>20.0μg/g).The p H showed a strong negative correlation with Eh(r=-0.94;pment(p H≤5.9)in marine ecosystems with high loads of toxic trace metals is unsafe for ***,managers must be aware of the environmental and biological risks of introducing the aeration technique into a eutrophic marine environment.

Dempster-Shafer Theory (DST) and the Analytic Hierarchy Process (AHP) are integrated in order to elicit preference information from experts regarding decision makers (Dms) involved in a regulatory conflict. more precisely, DST is used for combining expert knowledge regarding preferences of a specific Dm (the regulatory body), and AHP is employed for ranking feasible states in the conflict for this same Dm. In order to illustrate how this preference elicitation proposal can be conveniently implemented in practice within the Graph model for Conflict Resolution (GmCR), it is applied to a real construction dispute located in the city of Ipojuca, Brazil. The conflict is modeled with three Dms: support, opposition, and the regulatory body. Results show that the new preference methodology possesses many inherent advantages including high flexibility the ability to capture uncertainty or even ignorance about preferences, the possibility of combining expert knowledge with respect to missing preferences, and a substantial reduction in the number of pairwise comparisons of states required to express preference information.

AIm To develop metabonomic models(mms), using 1 H nuclear magnetic resonance(NmR) spectra of serum, to predict significant liver fibrosis(SF: metavir ≥ F2), advanced liver fibrosis(AF: mETAVIR ≥ F3) and cirrhosis(C: mETAVIR = F4 or clinical cirrhosis) in chronic hepatitis C(CHC) patients. Additionally, to compare the accuracy of the mms with the aspartate aminotransferase to platelet ratio index(APRI) and fibrosis index based on four factors(FIB-4). mETHODS Sixty-nine patients who had undergone biopsy in the previous 12 mo or had clinical cirrhosis were included. The presence of any other liver disease was a criterion for exclusion. The mms, constructed using partial least squares discriminant analysis and linear discriminant analysis formalisms, were tested by cross-validation, considering SF, AF and C. RESULTS Results showed that forty-two patients(61%) presented SF, 28(40%) AF and 18(26%) C. The mms showed sensitivity and specificity of 97.6% and 92.6% to predict SF; 96.4% and 95.1% to predict AF; and 100% and 98.0% to predict C. Besides that, the mms correctly classified all 27(39.7%) and 25(38.8%) patients with intermediate values of APRI and FIB-4, respectively. CONCLUSION The metabonomic strategy performed excellently in predicting significant and advanced liver fibrosis in CHC patients, including those in the gray zone of APRI and FIB-4, which may contribute to reducing the need for these patients to undergo liver biopsy.

Seismic performance of composite moment-resisting frames achieved with sustainable CFST members

The main objective of the research presented in this paper is to study the bending behaviour of Concrete Filled Steel Tube （CFST） columns made with Rubberized Concrete （RuC）, and to assess the seismic performance of moment-resisting frames with these structural members. The paper describes an experimental campaign where a total of 36 specimens were tested, resorting to a novel testing setup, aimed at reducing both the preparation time and cost of the test specimens. Different geometrical and material parameters were considered, namely cross-section type, cross-section slenderness, aggregate replacement ratio, axial load level and lateral loading type. The members were tested under both monotonic and cyclic lateral loading, with different levels of applied axial loading. The test results show that the bending behaviour of CFST elements is highly dependent on the steel tube properties and that the type of infill does not have a significant influence on the flexural behaviour of the member. It is also found that Eurocode 4 is conservative in predicting the flexural capacity of the tested specimens. Additionally, it was found that the seismic design of composite moment- resisting frames with CFST columns, according to Eurocode 8, not only leads to lighter design solutions but also to enhanced seismic performance in comparison to steel frames.

Food packaging materials compounded with antimicrobial additives can substantially diminish the incidence of foodborne ***,poly(L-lactic acid)(PLA)films containing sodium metabisulfite(Nam)were produced by melt extrusion as an attempt to develop a new biodegradable material with antimicrobial properties for *** cycle assessment(LCA)simulations revealed that the environmental footprints of the PLA film did not change upon Nam addition,and that Nam is more eco-friendly than silver *** PLA/Nam films with Nam content varying from 0.5 to 5.0 wt.%were characterized by differential scanning calorimetry(DSC),thermogravimetric analysis(TGA),and optical and mechanical properties *** optical properties were sustained after the addition of Nam,but high Nam contents degraded the light transparence of the PLA matrix at some *** thermal stability and tensile properties of the PLA film decreased proportionally to the Nam content,while no changes were observed on Tg,Tm and Xc,as determined by *** diffusion tests revealed that the PLA/Nam films had no antimicrobial activity on Saccharomyces cerevisiae at 35°C,which was related to the limited migration of Nam from the glassy PLA *** biodegradable PLA films compounded with Nam through melt extrusion display adequate optical,thermal,and mechanical properties to cover most food packaging applications,representing an essential step toward the development of eco-friendly packaging materials that can potentially exhibit an antimicrobially active surface.

In this work we study the quantum system with the symmetric Konwent potential and show how to find its exact solutions. We find that the solutions are given by the confluent Heun function. The eigenvalues have to be calculated numerically because series expansion method does not work due to the variable z ≥ 1. The properties of the wave functions depending on the potential parameter A are illustrated for given potential parameters V_0 and a. The wave functions are shrunk towards the origin with the increasing |A|. In particular, the amplitude of wave function of the second excited state moves towards the origin when the positive parameter A decreases. We notice that the energy levels ε_i increase with the increasing potential parameter |A| ≥ 1, but the variation of the energy levels becomes complicated for |A| ∈(0, 1), which possesses a double well. It is seen that the energy levels ε_i increase with |A| for the parameter interval A ∈(-1, 0), while they decrease with |A| for the parameter interval A ∈(0, 1).

The spin-charge-family theory is a kind of the Kaluza-Klein theories, but with two kinds of the spin connection fields, which are the gauge fields of the two kinds of spins. The SO(13,1) representation of one kind of spins manifests in d = (3 + 1) all the properties of family members as assumed by the standard model;the second kind of spins explains the appearance of families. The gauge fields of the first kind, carrying the space index m = (0,...,3), manifest in d = (3 + 1) all the vector gauge fields assumed by the standard model. The gauge fields of both kinds of spins, which carry the space index (7, 8) gaining at the electroweak break nonzero vacuum expectation values, manifest in d = (3 + 1) as scalar fields with the properties of the Higgs scalar of the standard model with respect to the weak and the hyper charge ( and , respectively), while they carry additional quantum numbers in adjoint representations, offering correspondingly the explanation for the scalar Higgs and the Yukawa couplings, predicting the fourth family and the existence of several scalar fields. The paper 1) explains why in this theory the gauge fields are with the scalar index s = (5,6,7,8) doublets with respect to the weak and the hyper charge, while they are with respect to all the other charges in the adjoint representations;2) demonstrates that the spin connection fields manifest as the Kaluza-Klein vector gauge fields, which arise from the vielbeins;and 3) explains the role of the vielbeins and of both kinds of the spin connection fields.
