High prevalence of occult hepatitis C infection in predialysis patients

BACKGROUND Occult hepatitis C virus(HCV) infection(OCI) may be associated with extrahepatic diseases and it is known that the patients with chronic kidney disease(CKD) who are on hemodialysis(HD) present a higher prevalence of this type of infection than the general population, with a worse clinical ***, there are no data in the literature to assess the presence of OCI in patients prior to the initiation of renal replacement therapy(RRT). Therefore, this study aimed to evaluate the occurrence and epidemiological aspects of OCI in patients with Predialysis CKD. We hypothesize that this infection could occur before RRT *** To research the status in predialysis patients when HD patients have high prevalence of *** A cross-sectional study was conducted between 2015 and 2017. Adults with creatinine clearance mL/min·1.73 m^2(predialysis patients) were recruited to the study. Pregnant and postpartum women, patients with glomerulopathies,and patients showing positivity for serological markers of hepatitis B virus(HBV), HCV or human immunodeficiency virus infection were excluded. Patients were diagnosed with OCI according to test results of anti-HCV antibody negativity and HCV RNA positivity in either ultracentrifuged serum or, if serumnegative, in peripheral blood mononuclear *** Among the 91 total patients included in the study, the prevalence of OCI was 16.5%. Among these 15 total OCI patients, 1 was diagnosed by 14 ultracentrifuged serum results and 14 were diagnosed by peripheral blood mononuclear cell results. The Piper hispidinervium leaves and thin stems were dried under laboratory and field *** drying was performed using a shade dryer operating with and without forced convection and an oven dryer operating at 30 and 40*** experiments were conducted using solar dryers with three different covers,i.e.,transparent,black plastic,and palm straw *** essential oil extraction was performed by steam distillation,and the safrole content was analyzed by gas *** mathematical models(Page,logarithmic,Henderson and Pabis,fractional,and diffusion)were fitted with the experimental data and compared based on the coefficient of determination(R2),root mean square error(RmSE)and *** suggest that the best model was the logarithmic model(R2>0.99,RmSEme was prolonged,both the oil yield and safrole content of the extracted oil decreased.

Antiglycation and antioxidant activities of the crude extract and saponin fraction of Tribulus terrestris before and after microcapsule release

Objective:The present study investigated antiglycation and antioxidant activities of crude dry extract and saponin fraction of Tribulus *** also developed a method of microencapsulation and evaluated antiglycation and antioxidant activities of crude dry extract and saponin fraction before and after microcapsule ***:Antiglycation activity was determined by relative electrophoretic mobility(REm),free amino groups and inhibition of advanced glycation end-product(AGE)*** activity was determined by 2,2-diphenyl-1-picrylhydrazyl(DPPH),ferric ion-reducing antioxidant power(FRAP),nitric oxide(NO)and thiobarbituric acid reactive species(TBARS)*** were prepared using maltodextrin as wall material and freeze-drying as encapsulation *** characterization of microcapsules was evaluated by scanning electron microscopy,and encapsulation efficiency and microcapsule release were determined by total saponins *** and antioxidant assays were performed using crude dry extract and saponin fraction of *** before and after ***:Saponin fraction showed an increase of 32.8%total ***-performance liquid chromatography-mass spectrometry analysis showed the presence of saponins in the obtained *** evaluation by REm demonstrated that samples before and after release presented antiglycation activity similar to bovine serum albumin treated with ***,samples inhibited AGE formation,highlighting treatment with saponin fraction after release(89.89%).Antioxidant tests demonstrated antioxidant activity of the *** dry extract before encapsulation presented the highest activities in DPPH(92.00%)and TBARS(32.49%)*** fraction before encapsulation in FRAP test(499μmol Trolox equivalent per gram of dry sample)and NO test(15.13μmol nitrite formed per gram of extract)presented the highest ***:This study presen

Soil microbial Biomass After Three-Year Consecutive Composted Tannery Sludge Amendment

Brazilian industry produces huge amounts of tannery sludge as residues,which is often disposed by landfilling or land ***,consecutive amendment of such composted industrial wastes may cause shifts in soil microbial biomass(SmB) and enzyme *** study aimed to evaluate SmB and enzyme activity after 3-year consecutive composted tannery sludge(CTS) amendment in tropical sandy *** amounts of CTS(0.0,2.5,5.0,10.0,and 20.0 t ha^(-1)) were applied to a sandy *** C and N contents of SmB,basal and substrate-induced respiration,respiratory quotient(qCO_2),and enzyme activities were determined in the soil samples collected after CTS amendment for 60 d at the third *** 3 years,significant changes were found in soil microbial properties in response to different CTS amounts *** organic matter and Cr contents significantly increased with increasing CTS *** and soil respiration peaked following amendment with 10.0 and 20.0 t ha-1 of CTS,respectively,while qCO_2was not significantly affected by CTS ***,soil enzyme activity decreased significantly with increasing CTS *** CTS amendment for 3 years showed inconsistent and contrasting effects on SmB and enzyme *** decrease in soil enzyme activities was proportional to a substantial increase in soil Cr concentration,with the latter exceeding the permitted concentrations by more than ***,our results suggest that a maximum CTS quantity of 5.0 t ha^(-1) can be applied annually to tropical sandy soil,without causing potential risks to SmB and enzyme activity.

The study of earth masses requires numerical methods that provide the quantification of the safety factor without requiring detrimental assumptions. For that, equilibrium analysis can perform fast computations but require assumptions that limit its potentiality. Limit analysis does not require detrimental assumptions but are numerically demanding. This work provides a new approach that combines the advantage of both the equilibrium method and the limit analysis. The defined hybrid model allows probabilistic analysis and optimization approaches without the assumption of interslice forces. It is compared with a published case and used to perform probabilistic studies in both a homogeneous and a layered foundation. Analyses show that the shape of the density probability functions is highly relevant when computing the probability of failure, and soil elasticity hardly affects the safety of factor of the earth mass.

The Role of Nanodispersed Nitrides in the Sintering of Silicon Nitride Ceramics

The synthesis of ceramics based on silicon nitride using nanopowders of TiN and Si3N4 as additives was studied. The ceramic compositions were pressurelessly sintered under ni- trogen atmosphere at different temperatures （1550℃, 1650℃ and 1750℃） with a heating rate of 10℃/min and a holding time of 2 h. The nanodispersed nitrides （NDN） were produced by electric-arc plasma synthesis and characterized. The ceramic composites obtained with nanoparticles of 1wt% to 5wt% TiN and 20wt% Si3N4 were characterized by scanning electron microscopy （SEm）, atom force microscopy （AFm） and energy-dispersive spectrometry （EDX）. The effect of the addition of nanodispersed powders on the mechanical properties and microstructure of Si3N4 ceramics was investigated.
