Crystal Structure Study on Non-Coplanarly Organized Accumulating Aromatic Rings Molecules: Spatial Organization of C,C,N-Triaryl Substituted Imines

The X-ray crystal structures of C,C,N-triaryl-substituted imine compounds, which have methoxy or hydroxy group adjacent to the imino moiety, are reported and discussed in comparison with those of the precursor ketone compounds, 1-(4-chlorobenzoyl)-2,7-dimethoxynaphthalene and 1-(4-chlorobenzoyl)-2-hydroxy-7-methoxynaphthalene. In crystals, three aromatic rings in a molecule of the methyl ether-retained imine compound are positioned almost perpendicularly to each other by giving non-coplanar spatial organization of the single molecular structure [dihedral angles: 85.32(18)° for C-linked phenyl ring and naphthalene ring;79.27(17)° for N-linked phenyl ring and naphthalene ring;84.78(17)° for C-linked phenyl ring and N-linked phenyl ring]. Spatial organization of the analogous methyl ether-cleaved imine compound has essentially same topology [dihedral angles 80.39(6)° for the C-linked phenyl ring and naphthalene ring;82.35(6)° for the N-linked phenyl ring and naphthalene ring;87.09(7)° for C- and N-linked phenyl rings]. These structural features of triarylimines apparently differ from those of the precursor ketones. Two aromatic rings in the methyl ether-cleaved ketone compound make smaller dihedral angle [58.10(6)°] by intramolecular hydrogen bond between ketonic carbonyl group and hydroxy group [2.5573(16) A] than that of the methyl ether-retained ketone [72.06(7)°]. In molecular packing, the methyl ether-retained imine forms tubular molecular alignments composed of R—S dimeric molecular pairs, whereas the methyl ether-retained ketone affords consecutively stacks of one configurated molecules.

Crystal Structure and Solution Structural Dynamic Feature of 1,8-Dibenzoyl-2,7-Dimethoxynaphthalene

The crystal structure and the dynamic feature of molecular structure in solution for 1,8-dibenzoyl-2,7-dimethoxynaph-thalene are revealed by X-ray crystallographic analysis and VT-NMR measurements. In crystal, the molecule of the title compound is located on a twofold rotation axis. The two benzoyl groups are situated in an opposite direction. The dihedral angle between the mean planes of the phenyl ring and the naphthalene ring system is 80.25(6). The benzene ring and carbonyl moiety in each benzoyl group are almost coplanar. The molecular packing is stabilized by weak C–H…O hydrogen bonds and aπ-πstacking interaction between the benzene rings [centroid-centroid and interplanar distances of 3.6383(10) and 3.294 , respectively]. In solution, the temperature-dependent rotation behavior of the C–C bond between the benzene ring and the ketonic carbonyl group has been observed by1H VT-NMR measurements. Furthermore, comparison of the C–C bond rotation behavior between the benzene ring and the carbonyl group with 1-ben-zoyl-2,7-dimethoxynaphthalene has clarified that the C–C bond between the ketonic carbonyl group and the naphthalene ring rotates slower than the 1,8-dibenzoylated homologue.

AlCl3-mediated cleavage of ethereal methyl–oxygen bond in aroylated 2,7-dimethoxynaphthalene compounds proceeds chemospecifically and regioselectively. The ethereal bond at the β(2)-position of 1-monoaroylated 2,7-dimethoxynaphthalene is cleaved readily and predominantly against the β(7)-position, whereas scission of β-ethereal bonds of 1,8-diaroylated 2,7-dimethoxynaphthalene hardly undergoes like the non-aroylated mother frame compound of 2,7-dimethoxynaphthalene.

AIM： To examine the role of E-cadherin and betacatenin in carcinogenesis and to assess their prognostic implication in Epstein-Barr virus-associated gastric carcinomas （EBV-GCs）. METHODS： We compared the frequency of E-cadherin and beta-catenin expression in 59 EBV-GCs and 120 non-EBV-GCs, and examined the association between patients＇ prognosis and the expressions of these proteins. RESULTS： Neither the cellular-membranous nor the cytoplasmic E-cadherin expression showed any difference between EBV-GCs and non-EBV-GCs. On the other hand, loss of membranous expression of beta- catenin occurred more frequently in non-EBV-GCs than EBV-GCs [odds ratio = 0.41; 950 confidence interval （CI）, 0.19-0.90]. Furthermore, the nuclear and/or cytoplosmic expression of beta-catenin was seen more frequently in EBV-GCs than non-EBV-GCs （odds ratio = 2.23; 95% CI, 0.97-5.09）, and was observed in a larger proportion of carcinoma cells of EBV-GCs than non-EBV-GCs （P = 0.024）. Survival analysis for non-EBV-GC revealed that lymph node metastasis was significantly associated with poor prognosis （P 〈 0.001）. Among EBV- GCs, the depth of invasion （P = 0.005）, lymph node metastasis （P = 0.004） and an intestinal type by Lauren classification （hazard ratio = 9.47; 95% CI, 2.67-33.6） were significantly associated with poor prognosis. On the other hand, nuclear and/or cytoplasmic expression of beta-catenin was associated with a better prognosis in patients with EBV-GC （hazard ratio = 0.32; 95% CI, 0.11-0.93）. CONCLUSION： We observed more frequent preservation of beta-catenin in cell membrane and accumulation in nuclei and/or cytoplasm in EBV-GCs than in non-EBV- GCs. Factors involved in the prognosis of EBV-GCs and non-EBV-GCs are different in the two conditions.

Computer Simulation of Microscopic Stress Distribution in Complex Microstructure Using a Phase Field Model

Microscopic stress distribution in a metallic material which has complex microstructure is simulated using a phase field *** fundamental equations which take into account the coupling effects among phase transformation,temperature and stress/strain are used,while thermal effects are neglected to focus on the volumetric change due to phase transformation in this paper.A two-dimensional square region is considered,and the evolution of microscopic stress and the resultant residual stress distribution are calculated using the finite element *** the phase transformation progresses and grains grow larger,stress is generated around the growing *** a grain collides with another one,specifically large stress is *** stress is finally distributed in the microstructure formed,and apparently large stresses are retained along the grain boundaries. Subsequently,dependency of the stress distribution on microstructure pattern is ***,variously sized square grains are tested,and it reveals that the maximum stress tends to decrease as the grain size becomes ***,the shapes of the grains are *** a result,the stress distribution is remarkably affected,while the maximum stress value does not change so *** complicated grain arrangement is finally tested with eight or nine grain ***,it is revealed as a common feature that large stress is generated along the grain boundaries and that the stress distribution is dependent on the grain arrangement.

Change in arterial tumor perfusion is an early biomarker of lenvatinib efficacy in patients with unresectable hepatocellular carcinoma

BACKGROUND Lenvatinib is one of the first-line tyrosine kinase inhibitors used for unresectable hepatocellular carcinoma(HCC). In the present study, we evaluated the potential of early changes in the time-intensity curve(TIC) of arterial phase on contrastenhanced ultrasound(CEUS) as early imaging biomarkers of lenvatinib *** To evaluate the potential of the early changes in the TIC of CEUS as early imaging biomarkers of lenvatinib efficacy in patients with unresectable *** We analyzed 20 consecutive patients with unresectable HCC treated with lenvatinib from March to November 2018. Tumor response at 8 wk was assessed by computed tomography using the modified Response Evaluation Criteria in Solid Tumors(m RECIST). CEUS was performed at baseline before treatment(Day 0) and on day 7(Day 7), and the images were analyzed in the arterial phase for 20 seconds after the contrast agent arrived at the target tumor. Three perfusion parameters were extracted from the TICs: the slope of wash-in(Slope),time to peak(TTP) intensity, and the total area under the curve(AUC) during wash-in. The rate of change in the TIC parameters between Day 0 and Day 7 was compared between treatment responders and non-responders based on m *** The rate of change for all TIC parameters showed significant differences between the responders(n = 9) and non-responders(n = 11)(Slope, P = 0.025; TTP, P =0.004; and AUC, P = 0.0003). Classification of Intervertebral Disc Degeneration in Low Back Pain Using Diffusional Kurtosis Imaging

Degenerative disc disease is the most common cause of low back pain. Intervertebral disc abnormalities are commonly evaluated by magnetic resonance imaging (MRI), and Pfirrmann’s system involves the use of T2-weighted images (T2WI) to classify disc degeneration. However, as this classification is based on visual evaluation, it is not possible to quantify degeneration using this method. The present study was performed to establish an MRI-based intervertebral disc classification system using diffusional kurtosis imaging (DKI), to quantify intervertebral disc water content according to the Pfirrmann classification. Sagittal mean diffusional kurtosis (MK) mapping was performed for the L3/4, L4/5, and L5/S1 intervertebral discs in 32 patients (15 female, 17 male;age range, 24 - 82 years;mean age, 57.7 years). The degree of disc degeneration was assessed in the midsagittal section on T2WI according to the Pfirrmann classification (grade I - V). The relationships between MK values, which are correlated with intervertebral disc composition changes, and grade of degeneration determined using the Pfirrmann classification were analyzed. The MK values tended to decrease with increasing grade of degeneration, and differed significantly between grades I and IV, but not between grade IV and V (P < 0.05, Mann-Whitney U test). DKI is an effective means of detecting the early stages of disc degeneration. Therefore, DKI may be a useful diagnostic tool for quantitative assessment of intervertebral disc degeneration.

Treatment of Bilateral Proximal Humeral Fracture in Patients with Parkinson’s Disease: A Case Report

There are only a few reports about upper extremity fractures in patients with Parkinson’s disease (PD). This is a case report of a PD patient with severe tremors who had proximal humeral fracture. We performed surgery for the left side and conservative treatment for the right side. The patient was a 73-year-old woman who had been diagnosed with PD 10 years prior to presentation. Open reduction internal fixation was conducted for the left proximal humeral fracture. 7 months after the left shoulder fracture, she fell resulting in a right proximal humeral fracture for which she underwent conservative treatment. Although bone union was obtained bilaterally, anterior subluxation occurred in the operated side 9 months postoperative. Screw remove was performed because perforation of the screw was observed in the humeral head and was causing pain. Currently, restriction in range of motion and subluxation may be seen on the side that received conservative treatment, although pain is absent and patient satisfaction is high. On the operated side, there is a marked restriction in range of motion, subluxation, and pain. Our experience revealed that conservative treatment was effective for proximal humeral fractures and that optimal bone union might be obtained even in patients with suboptimal PD control.
