This review examines glioma disease initiation,promotion,and progression with a focus on the cell types present within the tumor mass and the molecules responsible for the immunosuppressive microenvironment that are present at each step of the *** cell types and molecules present also correlate with the grade of *** overall“type 2”chronic inflammatory microenvironment develops that facilitates glioma promotion and contributes to the neo-vascularization characteristic of *** immunosuppressive microenvironment shields the tumor mass from clearance by the patient’s own immune ***,we provide suggestions to deal with a chronically-inflamed tumor microenvironment and provide recommendations to help optimize adjuvant immune-and gene therapies currently offered to glioma patients.

Dear editor,The current treatment strategy for advanced non-small cell lung cancer(NSCLC)patients harboring epider-mal growth factor receptor(EGFR)mutations involves EGFR-tyrosine kinase inhibitors(EGFR-TKIs).Several reports on EGFR-TKI resistance have shown that the T790M mutation within the EGFR gene is present in approximately half of the patients who develop resist-ance to a first-or second-generation EGFR-TKI[1,2].In Japan,osimertinib monotherapy is the standard therapy for patients harboring the EGFR T790M mutation arising after the development of resistance to a first-or second-generation EGFR-TKI[3,4].Herein,we report the case of a patient who underwent four tumor biopsies over the treatment *** no detection of this mutation after developing resistance to the first-line EGFR-TKI,in the fourth biopsy specimen,which was collected after progression following EGFR-TKI re-challenge,EGFR T790M mutation was detected using the cobas®EGFR mutation test(Roche Molecular Systems,Pleasanton,CA,USA).Additionally,we analyzed the T790M allele frequency(AF)in longitudinal biopsy samples obtained at four different time points using droplet digital PCR(ddPCR)(PrimePCR™,Bio-Rad Laboratories,Inc.,Her-cules,CA,USA).We discuss the clinical usefulness of longitudinal assessment of the EGFR T790M AF,espe-cially for deciding the appropriate treatment(e.g.,osi-mertinib)in patients with EGFR mutations.

Noninvasive,glucose-monitoring technologies using infrared spectroscopy that have been studied typically require a calibration process that involves blood collection,which renders the methods somewhat *** develop a truly noninvasive,glucose-monitoring technique using midinfrared spectroscopy that does not require blood collection for calibration by applying domain adaptation(DA)using deep neural networks to train a model that associates blood glucose concentration with mid-infrared spectral data without requiring a training dataset labeled with invasive blood sample *** realizing DA,the distribution of unlabeled spectral data for calibration is considered through adversarial update during training networks for regression to blood glucose *** calibration improved the correlation coeffcient between the true blood glucose concentrations and predicted blood glucose concentrations from 0.38 to *** result indicates that this calibration technique improves prediction accuracy for mid-infrared glucose measurements without any invasively acquired data.

A synthetic polymer with a laminin-apatite composite layer on its surface would be useful as a percutaneous device. The preparation of such a composite was attempted in the present study using poly（ ethylene terephthalate ）（PET） and polyethylene （PE） as the synthetic polymer. PET and PE plates and those pretreated with an oxygen plasma were alternately dipped in calcium and phosphate ion solutions, and then immersed in a metastable calcium phosphate solution supplemented with laminin （ LCP solution ）. The PET and PE plates pretreated with an oxygen plasma formed a uniform and continuous layer of a laminin-apatite composite on their surfaces. In contrast, the PET and PE plates that had not been pretreated with an oxygen plasma did not form a continuous layer of a laminin-apatite composite on their surfaces. The hydrophilic functional groups on the PET and PE surfaces introduced by the plasma treatment were responsible for the successful laminin-apatite coruposite coating.

Both tryptophan （Trp） and auxin are essential for plant growth and Trp is a precursor for auxin biosynthesis. Concentrations of Trp and auxin need to be tightly con- trolled to ensure optimal growth and development. It has been very difficult to study the homeostasis of these two essential and inter-dependent compounds. Auxin is mainly synthesized from Trp via a two-step pathway using indole- 3-pyruvate （IPA） as the intermediate. Here we used a bacterial Trp oxidase RebO, which does not exist in Ara- bidopsis and which converts Trp to the imine form of IPA, to modulate IPA levels in Arabidopsis. Our results demonstrate that Arabidopsis plants use two strategies to ensure that no excess IPA is made from Trp. IPA is made from Trp by the TAA family of aminotransferases, which we show catalyzes the reverse reaction when IPA level is high. Moreover, excess IPA is converted back to Trp by the YAS1 aminotransferase. We show that the VASl-cat- alyzed reaction is very important for Trp homeostasis. This work not only elucidates the intricate biochemical mech- anisms that control the homeostasis of Trp, IPA, and auxin, but also provides novel tools for further biochemical studies on Tip metabolism and auxin biosynthesis in plants.

The relative locations of AOB,NOB,and DNB were examined for three different kinds of carriers in two types of hybrid bioflm process configurations:integrated fixed-film activated sludge(IFAS)and moving bed bioflm reactor(MBBR)*** water resource recovery facilities(WRRFs)used Anodkainess^TM K1 carriers(KC)at Broomfield,Colorado,USA and polypropylene resin crriers(R)at Fukuok,Japa,whic MBBR WRFS used KC crier at South Adams Couty,Colorado,USA and sponge carriers(SC)at Saga,*** COD to N ratios ranged from 8:1 to 15:*** COD and BOD removal efficiencies were high(96%-98%);NH^+4-N and TN removal efficiencies were more varied at 72%98%and 64%-77%,*** extent of TN removal was higher at high SRT,high COD:N ratio and low DO concentration in the anoxic *** IFAS,RC with high specific surface area.(SSA)maintained higher AOB population than *** carriers with high SSA maintained higher overall bacteria population than KC in MBBR ***,the DNB were not more abundant in high SSA *** diversity of AOB,NOB,and DNB was fairly similar in different *** *** over Nitrosospira *** denitrifying bacteria included Rhodobacter sp.,Sulfuritalea sp.,.Rubrivivax sp:Paracoccus sp..and Pseudomonas *** results from this work suggest that high SRT,***:N ratio,low DO concentration in anoxic tanks,and carriers with greater surface area may be recommended for high COD,BOD and TN removal in WRRFs with IFAS and MBBR systerms.

Effect of forest thinning on hydrologic nitrate exports from a Nsaturated plantation

Although several studies have assessed the effects of thinning on water quality,including nitrogen(N)exports,few have examined N-saturated *** study assessed the short-term effect of thinning on N exports from a N-saturated plantation forest in northern Kyushu,western Japan,that was thinned(43%of basal area)during January-March *** levels at the gauging station were continually measured,and streamwater baseflow and stormflow samples were collected before(2011)and after(2013)forest *** precipitation before(2469 mm)and after(2418 mm)forest thinning differed little,and annual water discharge after thinning(1641 mm)was similar to that before thinning(1609 mm).However,direct flow during stormflow periods was higher after thinning(260 mm)than before(153 mm).The concentrations of major ions in stream water did not differ before and after *** a result,the high annual dissolved inorganic N(DIN)exports differed little before(35.8 kg N ha^-1 a^-1)and after(36.5 kg N ha^-1 a^-1)forest *** exports during stormflow periods were slightly higher after(12.2 kg N ha^-1 a^-1)than before thinning(10.5 kg N ha^-1 a^-1)and were proportional to the increased direct flow after thinning(561 mm after vs.470 mm before thinning).We concluded that thinning does not affect annual N exports from the N-saturated plantation forest,but it can increase the proportion of N exported during stormflow periods in proportion to increased water volume of direct flow after thinning.

Many projects have recently been carried out and proposed for observing high energy electrons since it is realized that cosmic ray electrons are very important when studying the dark matter particles and the acceleration mechanism of cosmic rays. An imaging calorimeter, BETS （Balloon-borne Electron Telescope with Scintillator fiber）, has been developed for this purpose. Using pattern analysis of the shower development, the electrons can be selected from those primary cosmic ray proton events with flux heights one-tenth that of the electrons. The Monte-Carlo simulation is indispensable for the instrument design, the signal trigger and the data analysis. We present different shower simulation codes and compare the simulation results with the beam test and the flight data of BETS. We conclude that the code FLUKA2002 gives the most consistent results with the experimental data.

AIM：To compare the corneal biomechanical properties difference by ocular response analyzer（ORA） in normal tension glaucoma（NTG） patients with different visual field（VF） progression speed. METHODS：NTG patients with well-controlled Goldmann applanation tonometer（GAT） who routinely consulted Kitasato University Hospital Glaucoma Department between January 2010 and February 2014 were *** and ORA parameters including corneal compensated intraocular pressure（lOPcc）,Goldmann estimated intraocular pressure（lOPg）,corneal hysteresis（CH）,corneal resistance factor（CRF） were *** was tested by Swedish interactive threshold algorithm（SITA）-standard 30-2 *** patients underwent VF measurement regularly and GAT did not exceed 15 mm Hg at any time during the 3y follow *** were divided into four groups according to VF change over 3y,and ORA findings were compared between the upper 25th percentile group（slow progression group） and the lower 25th percentile group（rapid progression group）.RESULTS：Eighty-two eyes of 56 patients were *** were 21 eyes（21 patients） each in rapid and slow progression groups ***,lOPcc,lOPg,CH,CRF were 12.1＋1.4 mm Hg,15.8±1.8 mm Hg,12.8±2.0 mm Hg,8.4±1.1 mm Hg,7.9±1.3 mm Hg respectively in rapid progression group and 11.5±1.3 mm Hg,13.5±2.1 mm Hg,11.2±1.6 mm Hg,9.3±1.1 mm Hg,8.2±0.9 mm Hg respectively in slow progression group（P=0.214,〈0.001,0.007,0.017,0.413,respectively）.In bivariate correlation analysis,lOPcc,lOPcc-GAT and CH were significant correlated with m△MD（r =-0.292,-0.312,0.228 respectively,P =0.008,0.004,0.039 respectively）.CONCLUSION：Relatively rapid VF progression occurred in NTG patients whose lOPcc are rather high,CH are rather low and the difference between lOPcc and GAT are relatively *** lOPcc and lower CH are associated with VF progression in NTG *** study suggests that GAT measures might underestimate the IOP in such patients.
