Pancreatic involvement in chronic viral hepatitis

AIM: To elucidate the frequency and characteristics of pancreatic disorders in the course of chronic viral hepatitis. METHODS: We prospectively assessed the serum pancreatic enzyme levels and imaging findings in patients with chronic viral hepatitis and healthy control subjects. RESULTS: Serum amylase (t-Amy), salivary amylase (s-Amy), pancreatic amylase (p-Amy) and serum lipase levels were higher in hepatitis patients in comparison to control subjects. However, in asymptomatic viral carriers, only the serum t-Amy levels were higher than those of the controls. The levels of each enzyme rose with the progression of liver disease in patients with hepatitis B or C; whereas the levels of each enzyme within the same clinical stage of the disease did not differ between patients diagnosed with either hepatitis B or hepatitis C virus. Imaging findings demonstrated chronic pancreatitis in only 1 out of 202 patients (0.5%).CONCLUSION: Our data suggest that serum levels of pancreatic enzymes increase with the progression of liver disease in patients diagnosed with viral hepatitis. Pancreatic disease, asymptomatic in most cases, may represent an extrahepatic manifestation of chronic viral hepatitis.

A theory of the dynamic response of the turbulent plasma against the externally-controlled perturbations is reported. Based on Mori＇s method [Prog. Theor. Phys. 33 423 （1965）], the nonlinear force is assmned to be separated into the memory function and the nonlinear fluctuating force. The former corresponds to the damping term, and the latter is categorized into the noise term. The response of the turbulent plasma against the externally-controlled source is formulated. The response kernel, which connects the externally-controlled source and the response of the turbulent field, is shown to have both the nonlocal property （in space） and the non-Markovian response （in time）. A discussion is made on the nonlocal and non-Markovian response, including the case of disparate-scale interactions. A new method is proposed to observe experimentally the nonlocal interaction in the drift wave turbulence via the zonal flows.

Equivalent widths and line widths of Ca II infrared triplet emission lines were measured in the high-resolution optical spectra of 39 young stellar *** found that the equivalent widths of the emission lines decrease with stellar *** has often been claimed that strong chromospheric activity is generated by a dynamo process caused by fast rotation of the ***,we found no clear correlation between the strength of the Ca II lines and the stellar rotation ***,we found that the objects with high mass accretion rates had stronger Ca II emission *** correlation supports the turbulent chromosphere model or the magnetic accretion theory for classical T Tauri *** also noticed that the equivalent widths of Ca II lines in transitional disk objects are one-tenth of those in classical T Tauri stars,even if the masses of the circumstellar disks are comparable.

A numerical measurement module simulating a heavy ion beam probe was developed, and numerical measurements of electrostatic potential and density fluctuations are carried out for 3-D turbulent data generated by a global simulation of drift-interchange mode turbulence in helical plasmas. The deviation between measured and local values is estimated. It is found that the characteristic structures can be detected in spite of the screening effect due to the finite spatial resolution.

The low cycle fatigue strength properties of the additively manufactured Ti-6Al-4V alloy are experimentally investi-gated under proportional and nonproportional multiaxial *** fatigue tests were conducted using hollow cylinder specimens with and without heat treatments,at room temperature in *** fatigue tests were conducted:one for proportional loading and one for nonproportional *** proportional loading was represented by a push-pull strain path(PP)and the nonproportional loading by a circle strain path(Cl).The failure lives of the additively manufactured specimens were clearly reduced drastically by internal voids and ***,the sizes of the defects were measured,and the defects were found not to cause a reduction in fatigue strength above a critical *** fracture surface was observed using scanning electron microscopy to investigate the fracture mechanisms of the additively manufactured specimens under the two types of strain *** fracture patterns were recognized for each strain paths;however,both showed retention of the crack propagation,despite the presence of numerous defects,probably because of the interaction of the *** crack propagation properties of the materials with numerous defects under nonproportional multiaxial loading were clarified to increase the reliability of the additively manufactured components.

The photoperiodic control of flowering time is essential for the adaptation of plants to variable environments and for successful reproduction. The identification of genes encoding florigens, which had been elusive but were supposedly synthesized in leaves and then transmitted to shoot apices to induce floral transitions, has greatly advanced our understanding of the photoperiodic regulation of flowering. Studies on the photoperiodism of Arabidopsis, a model long-day plant, revealed the molecular mechanisms regulating the expression of the Arabidopsis florigen gene FT, which is gradually induced in response to increase in day length. By contrast, in rice, a model short-day plant, the expression of the florigen gene Hd3a （an FTortholog in rice） is regulated in an on/off fashion, with strong induction under short-day conditions and repression under long-day conditions. This critical day length dependence of Hd3a expression enables rice to recognize a slight change in the photoperiod as a trigger to initiate floral induction. Rice possesses a second florigen gene, RFT1, which can be expressed to induce floral transition under non-inductive long-day conditions. The complex transcriptional regulation of florigen genes and the resulting precise control over flowering time provides rice with the adaptability required for a crop species of increasing global importance.

High-Resolution Spectroscopy of Winds Associated with T Tauri Stars

We carried out optical high-resolution spectroscopy of T Tauri stars using the Subaru Telescope. Using archived data from the Keck Telescope and the Very Large Telescope, we detected forbidden lines of [S II] at 4069A, in addition to those of [O I] at 5577 A and 6300A, for 13 T Tauri stars. We consider that low-velocity components of these forbidden lines emanate from the wind associated with T Tauri stars. Using two flux ratios of the three lines, we simultaneously determined the hydrogen density and temperature of the winds. The winds ofT Tauri stars have a hydrogen density of 2.5 × 106 cm^-3 - 2.5 × 10^9 cm^-3 and a temperature of 10 800 -18 000 K. The mass loss rates by the wind are estimated to lie in the range from 2.0 × 10^-10 M⊙ yr-1 to 1.4× 10^-9 M⊙ yr-1. The mass loss rates are found to increase with increasing mass accretion rates. The ratio of the mass loss rate to the mass accretion rate is 0.001-0.1 for classical T Tauri stars and 0.1-1 for transitional disk objects.

Nanocomposites α-Fe/Fe 3B/Y 2O 3 were prepared by a melt-spun technique, and the electromagnetic wave absorption properties were measured in the 0 05～20 05 GHz range. Compared with α-Fe/Y 2O 3 composites, the resonance frequency (f r) of α-Fe/Fe 3B/Y 2O 3 shifted to a higher frequency range due to the large anisotropy field (H A) of tetragonal Fe 3B (～0 4 mA·m -1). The relative permittivity (ε r=ε r′-jε r″) was constantly low over the 0 5～10 GHz region, which indicates that the composite powders have a high resistivity (ρ=～100 Ωm). The effective electromagnetic wave absorption (RL<-20 dB) was obtained in a frequency range of 2.7～6.5 GHz on resin composites of 80% (mass fraction) α-Fe/Fe 3B/Y 2O 3 powders, with thickness of 6～3 mm respectively. A minimum reflection loss of -33 dB was observed at 4.5 GHz with an absorber thickness of 4 mm.

The evolution of the Internet has enabled us to enjoy the music created in various *** still,it is often difficult to understand the lyrics written in foreign *** translators have published many international songs with lyrics that fit the melody so that the ordinary people can enjoy the lyrics of such international *** paper discusses lyrics transcreation into the Japanese ***,the paper presents an interactive visual lyrics transcreation system and describes the details of its *** system allows users to select temporary lyrics from a set of tentative translations and then freely modify the lyrics with a real-time visualization *** also propose a lyrics translation algorithm that solves an essential problem of lyrics translation into *** this study,we interviewed two experts regarding problems with lyrics translation and received reviews of our presented *** also conducted preliminary experiments with 19 participants to determine the best combination of user interface components for our *** performed additional user experiments inviting 12 participants to compare lyrics transcreation using the presented system to manual lyrics *** transcreation by the presented system brought better results against those of manual transcreation.
