Improving the hydrostability of zeolitic imidazolate framework coatings using a facile silk fibroin protein modification method

Zeolitic imidazolate frameworks(ZIFs)are an important subclass of metal-organic frameworks(MOFs)with zeolite-type topology,which can be fabricated under ambient synthesis ***,the applications of ZIFs are commonly limited due to the weak hydrostability of their metal–ligand coordination bonds,particularly under humid and aqueous *** this work,as an example,the hydrolysis behaviours of ZIF-L with a special focus on ZIF-L coatings were tested at aqueous conditions with a wide range of pHs to systematically study and fundamentally understand their structural stability and degradation *** ZIF-L powder and ZIF-L coatings were severely damaged after only 24 h in aqueous ***,the ZIF-L coatings showed two distinct hydrolyzation pathways regardless of pH conditions,exhibiting either a ring-shaped etching or unfolding *** the ZIF-L powders were hydrolyzed almost identically across all pH *** this new understanding,a facile silk fibroin(sF)protein modification method was developed to enhance the hydrostability of ZIF-L coatings in aqueous *** effect of protein concentration on surface coating was systemically ***-L coating retained its surface morphology after soaking in water and demonstrated switchable super wetting properties and superior separation performance for oil/water *** a result,the quick sF protein modification significantly enhanced the stability of ZIF-L coatings under various pHs,while retaining their switchable wetting property and excellent separation performance.

Understanding the influence of electrode material’s morphology on electrochemical behavior is of great significance for the development of rechargeable batteries,however,such studies are often limited by the inability to precisely control the morphology of electrode ***,nanostructured titanium niobium oxides(TiNb_(2)O_(7))with three different morphologies(one-dimensional(1D),two-dimensional(2D),and three-dimensional(3D))were synthesized via a facile microwave-assisted solvothermal *** influence of the morphological dimension of TiNb_(2)O_(7) as electrode material on the electrochemical performance in Li-ion batteries(LIBs)and the underlying correlation with the electrochemical kinetics were studied in detail.2D TiNb_(2)O_(7)(TNO-2D)shows a superior rate capability and cycling stability,associated with improved kinetics for charge transfer and Li-ion diffusion,compared to the 1D and 3D *** X-ray diffraction measurements reveal the structural stability and crystallographic evolution of TNO-2D upon lithiation and delithiation and correlate the Li-ion diffusion kinetics with the lattice evolution during battery charge and ***,carbon-coated TNO-2D achieves enhanced rate capability(205 mAh·g^(-1) at 50 C)and long-term cycling stability(87%after 1000 cycles at 5 C).This work provides insights into the rational morphology design of electrode materials for accelerated charge transfer and enhanced fast-charging capability,pushing forward the development of electrode materials for high-power rechargeable batteries in future energy storage.

New applications in optoelectronics, photonics, telecommunication, displays, optical data processing, biomedicine, sensors, energy control, automobile, aerospace, and architecture stimulation are important developments in physics and technology of optical coatings. This paper will focus on the latest advances in the areas of new optical film systems and devices, new optical coating materials and film fabrication techniques, process control and monitoring, and different advanced applications. Particularly, focus is on optical films that combine optical design with microstructural features tailored on the nanometer and micrometer scales. Evaluation of film stability and integrity in harsh industrial environments and their compatibility with organic polymers are important as well.

The last years,Central European forests have suffered from drought as a direct consequence of climate *** these forests have a long management history and it lies in the landowner’s responsibility to replant damaged ***,landowners and the government are searching currently for species suitable to replant in areas affected by tree *** is a matter of fact that good knowledge of drought resistance of species is a critical measure for the current replanting *** determined a widely recognized trait for leaf drought tolerance(leaf water potential at turgor loss point at full hydration,πtlp)in 41 woody species native or introduced in Central *** osmometric rapid assessment method was used to measure the leaf osmotic potential at full hydration(πosm)of sun-exposed leaves and converted toπ***πtlp of the native species was−2.33±0.33 *** less negativeπtlp was found in the introduced species Aesculus hypocastania and was at−1.70±0.11 *** most negativeπtlp,and thus the potentially highest drought tolerance,were found in the introduced species Pseudotsuga menzesii and was at−3.02±0.14 *** or less negativeπtlp is associated with lower drought tolerance,whereas low or more negativeπtlp stands for higher resistance to drought *** example,the two native species Illex aquifolium and Alnus glustinosa are species naturally associated with moist habitats and are characterized by the least negativeπtlp of−1.75±0.02 and−1.76±0.03 MPa,respectively.

The biotrophic fungus Ustilago maydis causes corn smut disease, inducing tumor formation in its host Zea mays. Upon infection, the fungal hyphae invaginate the plasma membrane of infected maize ceils, establishing an interface where pathogen and host are separated only by their plasma membranes. At this interface the fungal and maize sucrose transporters, Umsrtl and ZmsUT1, compete for extracellular sucrose in the corn smut/maize pathos- ystem. Here we biophysically characterized ZmsUT1 and Umsrtl in Xenopus oocytes with respect to their voltage-, pH- and substrate-dependence and determined affinities toward protons and sucrose. In contrast to ZmsUT% Umsrtl has a high affinity for sucrose and is relatively pH- and voltage-independent. Using these quantitative parameters, we developed a mathematical model to simulate the competition for extracellular sucrose at the contact zone between the fungus and the host plant. This approach revealed that Umsrtl exploits the apoplastic sucrose resource, which forces the plant transporter into a sucrose export mode providing the fungus with sugar from the phloem. Importantly, the high sucrose concen- tration in the phloem appeared disadvantageous for the ZmsUT1 preventing sucrose recovery from the apoplastic space in the fungus/plant interface.

The divisional process and systematic position of the marine scuticociliate Dexiotrichides pangi are studied. Based on both stomatogenetic data and 18s rDNA gene sequences, the phylogeny and morphogenetic characteristics of this taxon, and of other related genera, are analyzed and discussed. Both the divisionary events and the molecular biological data indicate that this species/genus, together with certain other genera in the Dexiotricha-complex, occupies an intermediate position between the tetrahymenids and the “typical” scuticociliate, which suggests that the Dexiotricha-like taxa should be excluded from the “true” scuticociliates. As a further contribution, the process of stomatogenesis in D. pangi can be summarized as follows: (1) The oral primordia in the opisthe are formed only by the proliferation of basal bodies in the scutica field, which subsequently develop into three membranelles, while the new paroral membrane seems to be generated by the sub-anterior portion of somatic kinety 1 (the 1st postoral intercalary kinety). The latter character exhibits a mode similar to Tetrahymena. (2) In the proter the parental membranelles are retained and remain unchanged throughout the entire division process; only the old paroral membrane is disassembled and differentiated into the anlage, which then gives rise to the new paroral membrane and the scutica of the proter. The 18s rRNA gene sequence reported here is the first one for a ciliate in the Dexiotricha-complex.

A search for metal-poor stars pre-enriched by pair-instability supernovae I. A pilot study for target selection from sloan Digital sky survey

We report on a pilot study on identifying metal-poor stars pre-enriched by Pair-Instability supernovae（PIsNe）.Very massive,first generation（Population Ⅲ） stars（140 M⊙≤M≤260 M⊙）end their lives as PIsNe,which have been predicted by theories,but no relics of PIsNe have been observed *** the distinct characteristics of the yields of PIsNe,as predicted by theoretical calculations,are a strong odd-even effect,and a strong overabundance of Ca with respect to iron and the solar *** use the latter characteristic to identify metal-poor stars in the Galactic halo that have been pre-enriched by PIsNe,by comparing metallicites derived from strong, co-added Fe lines detected in low-resolution（i.e.,R=λ/△λ～2000）spectra of the sloan Digital sky survey（sDss）,with metallicities determined by the sDss stellar Parameters Pipeline（ssPP）.The latter are based on the strength of the CaⅡ K line and assumptions on the Ca/Fe abundance *** are selected as candidates if their metallicity derived from Fe lines is significantly lower than the ssPP *** a sample of 12 300 stars for which sDss spectroscopy is available,we have identified 18 candidate *** resolution and signal-to-noise ratio spectra of these candidates are being obtained with the Very Large Telescope of the European southern Observatory and the XsHOOTER spectrograph,to determine their abundance patterns,and to verify our selection *** plan to apply our method to the database of several million stellar spectra to be acquired with the Guo shou Jing Telescope （LAMOsT）in the next five years.

We present new quantitative model describing the pressure dependence of acoustic P-and s-wave *** that a variety of individual mechanisms or defects(such as cracks,pore collapse and grain crushing)can contribute to the pressure-dependent change of the wave velocity,we order a characteristic pressure to all of them and allow a series of exponential terms in the description of the(Pand s-waves)velocity-pressure *** estimate the parameters of the multi-exponential rock physical model in inversion procedures using laboratory measured P-and s-wave velocity *** is known,the conventional damped least squares method gives acceptable results only when one or two individual mechanisms are *** the number of exponential terms leads to highly nonlinear ill-posed inverse *** to this reason,we develop the spectral inversion method(sIM)in which the velocity amplitudes(the spectral lines in the characteristic pressure spectrum)are only considered as *** characteristic pressures(belonging to the velocity amplitudes)are excluded from the set of inversion unknowns,instead,they are defined in a set of fixed positions equidistantly distributed in the actual interval of the independent variable(pressure).Through this novel linear inversion method,we estimate the parameters of the multi-exponential rock physical model using laboratory measured P-and s-wave velocity *** characteristic pressures are related to the closing pressures of cracks which are described by well-known rock mechanical relationships depending on the aspect ratio of elliptical *** gives the possibility to estimate the aspect ratios in terms of the characteristic pressures.

Recently,a disruptive idea was reported about the discovery of a new type of battery named Liquid Displacement Battery(LDB)comprising liquid metal electrodes and molten salt *** cell featured a novel concept of a porous electronically conductive faradaic membrane instead of the traditional ion-selective ceramic *** are attractive for stationary storage applications but need mitigation against *** the instant battery chemistry,Li|LiCl-PbCl_(2)|Pb,reducing the diffusion coefficient of lead ions can be a way forward and a solution can be the addition of Pb O to the *** latter acts as a supplementary barrier and complements the function of the faradaic *** remedial actions improved the cell’s coulombic efficiency from 92%to 97%without affecting the voltage *** addition,the limiting current density of a 500 m Ah cell increased from 575 to 831 m A cm;and the limiting power from 2.53 to 3.66 ***,the effect of Pb O on the impedance and polarization of the cell was also studied.
