Background: Acute myeloid leukemia is a heterogeneous hematological malignancy with diversity in molecular, phenotypic and genetic alteration. Accurate assessment of prognosis is mandatory to reduce relapse, changing treatment related mortality, decision making for appropriate therapy protocols. Aim: A case control observational analytical study to assess the prognostic value of poliovirus (CD155) in acute myeloid leukemia and its significant in-patient stratification. Subject & methods: 100 newly diagnosed de novo AmL selected from oncology center, mansoura University. measurement of PVR (CD155) by multiparameter flow cytometry in addition to cytogenetic and molecular stratification. Results: Statistical stratification according to median cut off CD155 > 5.35. Higher expression was associated with an increased risk of death and relapse, LDH. While lower expression is associated with longer OS & DFS. Cox regression with univariate analysis revealed that LDH, molecular stratification, CD155 were significant risk factors for shorter OS, while positive expression of CD16, CD56 AmL m3 were significantly associated with longer survival. multivariate analysis revealed that CD155 was a significant risk factor for shorter OS. Conclusion: Variability in expression of CD155 in AmL patients due to dual costimulatory and inhibitory function, high expression associated with tumor bulk and progression, short OS, increased relapse rate. Cox regression analysis shows its independent risk factor. It could be implemented in routine laboratory for risk stratification into low, high risk that needs more therapeutic modalities with new immunotherapy. In future could be targeted therapy such as PDL, CTLA-4 and open more therapeutic hope for those patients.

A Comparative Study of the Typhidot (Dot-EIA) versus Widal Test in Diagnosis of Typhoid Fever among Egyptian Patients

Background and Study Aim: Typhoid (Enteric) fever is a systemic infection caused by Salmonella Typhi and Salmonella Paratyphi. It is endemic in the developing countries including Egypt. Different diagnostic tools can achieve diagnosis and include cultures from the blood, stool, bone marrow, rarely urine for isolation of the organism. Antibody detection by Widal test and relatively recent typhoid are also used. The current study aimed at comparing the most commonly used antibody detection Widal test with the rapid antibody detection typhidot for diagnosis of typhoid fever among Egyptian adults. Patients and methods: The study included 140 patients who are presented with picture suggestive of typhoid fever. Confirmed cases after the blood culture were included in the final analysis. Widal and typhidot tests were performed in all patients and were compared for sensitivity, specificity, positive predictive value, negative predictive value and diagnostic accuracy. Results: 45 patients out of 140 were diagnosed as typhoid fever by blood culture. Out of them, Widal test was positive in 39 patients with sensitivity, specificity, positive predictive value, negative predictive value and diagnostic accuracy of 86.7%, 89.5%, 79.5%, 93.4% and 88.5% respectively. Typhidot test was positive in 42 patients with sensitivity, specificity, positive predictive value, negative predictive value and diagnostic accuracy of 93.3%, 90.6%, 82.3%, 96.6%, and 91.4% respectively (P = 0.00). Conclusions: Typhidot test is reliable, simple highly sensitive and specific test in diagnosing typhoid fever when compared with Widal test.

N-Acetyltransferase 2 genetic polymorphisms and risk of colorectal cancer

AIm:To investigate the possible association between meat intake,cigarette smoking and N-acetyltransferase 2 (NAT2) genetic polymorphisms on colorectal cancer (CRC) ***:Patients with CRC were matched for gender and age to healthy *** intake and cigarette smoking were assessed using a specific frequency *** was extracted from peripheral blood and the genotypes of the polymorphism were assessed by polymerase chain reaction-restriction fragment length *** NAT2 alleles were studied (WT,m1,m2,m3 and m4) using specific digestion ***:A total of 147 patients with colorectal cancer (76 women and 90 men with colon cancer) and 212 controls were *** mean age of the two groups was 62 *** than half the subjects (59.8% in the case group and 51.9% in the control group) were NAT2 slow *** odds ratio for colorectal cancer was 1.38 (95% CI:0.90-2.12) in slow *** the number of women was small (n=76 in the case group),the cancer risk was found to be lower in intermediate (W/mx) acetylators [odds ratio (OR):0.55,95% confidence interval (95% CI):0.29-1.02].This difference was not observed in men (OR:0.56,95% CI:0.16-2.00).Among NAT2 fast acetylators (W/W or W/mx),meat consumption more than 3 times a week increased the risk of colorectal cancer (OR:2.05,95% CI:1.01-4.16).In contrast,cigarette smoking increased the risk of CRC among slow acetylators (OR:1.97,95% CI:1.02-3.79).CONCLUSION:The risk of CRC was higher among fast acetylators who reported a higher meat *** NAT2 acetylation was associated with an increased risk of CRC.

Sex ratio of mirid populations shifts in response to hostplant co-infestation or altered cytokinin signaling

Herbivore species sharing a host plant often compete. In this study, we show that host plant-mediated interaction between two insect herbivores-a generalist and a specialist-results in a sex ratio shift of the specialist＇s offspring. We studied demographic parameters of the specialist Tupiocoris notatus（Hemiptera： miridae）when co-infesting the host plant Nicotiana attenuata（Solanaceae） with the generalist leafhopper Empoasca sp.（Hemiptera： Cicadellidae）. We show that the usually female-biased sex ratio of T. notatus shifts toward a higher male proportion in the offspring on plants coinfested by Empoasca sp. This sex ratio change did not occur after oviposition, nor is it due differential mortality of female and male nymphs. Based on pyrosequencing and PCR of bacterial 16 S rRNA amplicons, we concluded that sex ratio shifts were unlikely to be due to infection with Wolbachia or other known sex ratio-distorting endosymbionts. Finally, we used transgenic lines of *** to evaluate if the sex ratio shift could be mediated by changes in general or specialized host plant metabolites. We found that the sex ratio shift occurred on plants deficient in two cytokinin receptors（irCHK2/3）.Thus, cytokinin-regulated traits can alter the offspring sex ratio of the specialist ***.

Removal of Lithium Citrate from H3A for Determination of Plant Available P

The soil extractant, H3A, has undergone several iterations to extract calcium (Ca), iron (Fe), aluminum (Al), potassium (K), phosphorus (P), ammonium (NH4-N) and nitrate (NO3-N) under ambient soil conditions. Few soil extractants currently used by commercial and university soil testing laboratories can perform multi-nutrient extraction without over- or under-estimating at least one nutrient. Soil pH and plant root exudates have a strong influence on nutrient availability and H3A was developed to mimic soil conditions. Lithium citrate was previously used in the H3A formulation, but resulted in a cloudy supernatant in some samples, complicating laboratory analyses. In this study, we removed lithium citrate and compared the nutrients extracted from the modified (H3A-4) to the established (H3A-3) solutions. We found that the new extractant, H3A-4, produced a clear supernatant even in soils with low pH and high iron and aluminum concentrations. H3A-4 accurately predicts plant available nutrients and is a viable choice for commercial and laboratory settings due to its ease of use.

Detection of Chlamydia trachomatisand Neisseria gonorrhoeaein Egyptian Women Suffering from Infertility

Chlamydial and gonococcal infections are recognized as two of the major causes of sexually transmissible human bacterial infection which may lead to infertility. In this cross sectional study, we aimed to determine the prevalence of Neisseria gonorrhoeae, Chlamydia trachomatis among Egyptian women using different microbiological methods. One hundred and fifty cervical swabs were collected, of which 100 were from infertile women. Culture and ELISA technique were used for screening of Neisseria gonorrhoeae and Chlamydia trachomatis individually. In addition, PCR was used for all examined samples. For C. trachomatis, 3 cases were positive for antigen detection by ELISA. moreover, in obtained results of PCR, DNA was detected in 4 samples, and three of them from infertile group. So based on PCR results, the sensitivity and specificity of ELISA were 75% and 100% respectively. Furthermore, 3 samples were positive for gonococcal infections by PCR, and two of them were taken from infertile women. Positive results of two samples were verified by culture. The estimated sensitivity and specificity of culture method were 66.7% and 100% respectively. Results of this study indicate that PCR is a valuable method for detection of gonococcal and chlamydial infection and it is suitable for the confirmation of ELISA results for C. trachomatis diagnosis. Culture method is less sensitive than PCR for detection of N. gonorrhoeae. The prevalence of such infections is higher among infertile women.

Which Gastric microbiota Associated with H. pyloriin Dyspeptic Patients with Gastritis

Introduction: H. pylori is the comment infection worldwide. Its relation to dyspepsia has long been investigated. However, the association between H. pylori and other microbiota in the context of dyspepsia is less understood. The aim of this study was to determine different bacterial species isolated from the stomachs of patients with H. pylori infection and dyspepsia. methods: A total of 81 patients were included and divided into: group I (N = 50) patients complaining of chronic dyspepsia and group II (N = 31) are patients with non-dyspeptic symptoms endoscoped for reasons other than dyspepsia. All patients were endoscoped and 4 gastric biopsies were obtained from each patient. All patients were examined initially by rapid urease test then histopathology to confirm H. pylori infection and determine the degree of gastric inflammation and finally tissue cultures for H. pylori and other bacterial species using matrix-assisted laser desorption ionization-time-of-flight mass spectroscopy (mALDI-TOF mS). Results: Regarding the demographics;patients of dyspepsia in group I were more consumers of spicy food and smoking than non-dyspeptic patients. Almost, all dyspeptic patients (98%) who had underlying gastric pathology with active gastritis and erosions were the most frequent reported pathological findings. Culture results showed significant association of Staphyloccus and Lactobacillus with dyspepsia while Streptoccous and Klebsilla were more frequent among non-dyspeptic patients. Conclusion: Dyspeptic patients in this study had different grades of gastric pathology and different species of microbiota were isolated, which seems to have concomitant interaction with H. pylori in pathogenicity of gastric mucosa and cause symptoms of chronic dyspepsia.

Phenolic compounds are related to high biological activity,avoiding oxidation in food and human *** are by-products derived from the pecan nut processing that contain important amounts of phenols which biological activity must be *** research aimed to evaluate the antioxidant(DPPH,ABTS,FRAP and hemolysis)and anti-inflammatory activities of shell extracts from pecan nuts harvested during the crop production cycle 2018 and 2019,as well as the in vitro digestibility of their phenolic compounds,including *** showed that extracts from the crop production cycle 2018 obtained the highest yield,while those from 2019 contained the highest concentration of phenolic compounds,flavonoids and antioxidant capacity determined by DPPH(22.96 mmol ET),ABTS(91.55 mmol ET)and inhibition of hemolysis(92.12%).The anti-inflammatory activity exhibited an inhibition of the elastase enzyme up to 50 min and the bioaccessibility of phenolic compounds reached up to 32%.These results showed that pecan nutshell extracts are an important source of biologically active compounds,thus,they are suitable to be used as commodities in different fields such as agricultural,food and pharmaceutical *** studies must be carried out in order to elucidate the activity of nutshell extracts within in vivo systems.

AIm:To analyze the changing trends in penetrating keratoplasty(PKP)***:This retrospective study included all patients with PKP between 2006 and *** were classified using histological *** groups were as the following:pseudophakic or aphakic bullous keratopathy,regraft,acute necrotizing and ulcerative keratitis,keratoconus,Fuchs'dystrophy,corneal dystrophy other than Fuchs',corneal scar,other diagnoses and failed endothelial keratoplasty ***,two different time-periods(2006-2012 and 2013-2017)were ***:Totally 1721 histological analyses of 1214 patients were available for *** diagnoses were pseudophakic or aphakic bullous keratopathy in 487(28.3%),regraft in 443(25.7%),acute necrotizing and ulcerative keratitis in 313(18.2%),corneal scar in 153(8.9%),keratoconus in 140(8.1%).Fuchs'dystrophy in 61(3.5%),corneal dystrophy other than Fuchs'in 46(2.7%),other diagnoses in 44(2.6%)and failed endothelial keratoplasty graft in 34(2.0%)*** the first to the second analysed time-period,incidence of acute necrotizing and ulcerative keratitis,corneal scar,Fuchs'dystrophy increased(P<0.032 for all)and incidence of keratoconus significantly decreased(P=0.015).CONCLUSION:Pseudophakic or aphakic bullous keratopathy is the leading indication for PKP,followed by regraft and acute necrotizing and ulcerative keratitis.
