Response surface methodology analysis of the photocatalytic removal of Methylene Blue using bismuth vanadate prepared via polyol route

Visible-light driven photocatalyst bismuth vanadate （BiVO4） photocatalyst was synthesized by the polyol route using ethylene glycol. The precipitate was washed, dried and calcined at 450℃ for 3 hr. The sample was characterized by X-ray diffractometry （XRD）, field emission scanning electron microscopy （FE-SEM）, zeta potential, surface area （BET method） and band gap energy via diffuse reflectance spectroscopy （DRS）. The synthesized BiVO4 has a monoclinic phase with a surface area of 4.3 m2/g and a band gap energy of 2.46 eV. A majority of the particles were in the range of 90-130 nm as obtained from the particle size distribution histrogram. The efficiency of the sample as a visible-light driven photocatalyst was examined by photodegrading Methylene Blue （MB）. The effects of some operational photodegradation parameters such as mass loading, initial dye concentration and pH were also examined. Experimental design methodology was applied by response surface modeling and optimization of the removal of MB. The multivariate experimental design was employed to develop a quadratic model as a functional relationship between the percentage removal of MB and three experimental factors （BiVO4 loading, MB initial concentration and pH）. The percentage removal of MB approached 67.21% under optimized conditions. In addition, a satisfactory goodness-of-fit was achieved between the predictive and the experimental results.

Improved Performance of W/HZSM-5 Catalysts for Dehydroaromatization of Methane

The dehydroaramatization of methane over W-supported ZSM-5 with varying degrees of Li+ ion-exchanged catalysts was studied with and without oxygen at 1073 K and atmospheric pressure. Catalyst activity and stability were found to be influenced by the catalyst acidity related to Bronsted acid sites and by the presence of oxygen in the feed. The NH3-TPD and FTIR-pyridine results demonstrated that partially exchanged of H+ ions by Li+ into the W/HZSM-5 catalysts could be used to control the amount of strong acid sites on the catalyst surface. Without oxygen, the 3WHLi-Z (5:1) catalyst that has strong acid sites equal to nearly 74% of the original strong acid sites in the parent HZSM-5 exhibited the highest methane conversion and selectivity towards aromatics. However, the catalyst deactivated in a five hour period. In the presence of oxygen, the catalyst activity and stability could be improved further. The results of this study revealed that a suitable amount of strong Bronsted acid sites as well as oxygen addition in the feed increased the catalyst activity and stability. The 3WHLi-Z(5:1) catalyst exhibited improved performance in the dehydroaromatization of methane.

Co-Generation of C_2 Hydrocarbons and Synthesis Gases from Methane and Carbon Dioxide: a Thermodynamic Analysis

This paper deals with thermodynamic chemical equilibrium analysis using the method of direct minimization of Gibbs free energy for all possible CH4 and CO2 reactions. The effects of CO2/CH4 feed ratio, reaction temperature, and system pressure on equilibrium composition, conversion, selectivity and yield were studied. In addition, carbon and no carbon formation regions were also considered at various reaction temperatures and CO2/CH4 feed ratios in the reaction system at equilibrium. It was found that the reaction temperature above 1100 K and CO2/CH4 ratio=1 were favourable for synthesis gas production with H2/CO ratio unity, while carbon dioxide oxidative coupling of methane （CO2 OCM） reaction to produce ethane and ethylene is less favourable thermodynamically. Numerical results indicated that the no carbon formation region was at temperatures above 1000 K and CO2/CH4 ratio larger than 1.

Diabetes mellitus(DM)is known to cause reproductive *** men,it has been linked to altered sperm quality and testicular *** stress(OS)plays a pivotal role in the development of DM ***(GSH)is a part of a nonenzymatic antioxidant defense system that protects lipid,protein,and nucleic acids from oxidative ***,the protective effects of exogenous GSH on the male reproductive system have not been comprehensively *** study determined the impact of GSH supplementation in ameliorating the adverse effect of type 1 DM on sperm quality and the seminiferous tubules of diabetic C57BL/6NTac *** at the doses of 15 mg kg^(-1)and 30 mg kg^(-1)was given intraperitoneally to mice weekly for 6 consecutive *** mice were then weighed,euthanized,and had their reproductive organs *** diabetic(D Group)showed significant impairment of sperm quality and testicular histology compared with the nondiabetic(ND Group).Diameters of the seminiferous lumen in diabetic mice treated with 15 mg kg^(-1) GSH(DGSH15)were decreased compared with the D *** motility was also significantly increased in the DGSH15 *** in testicular morphology might be an early indication of the protective roles played by the exogenous GSH in protecting sperm quality from effects of untreated type 1 DM or diabetic *** investigation using different doses and different routes of GSH is necessary to confirm this suggestion.

Objective:To investigate the role of CRX-527,a Toll-like receptor 4 agonist,as the possible adjuvant for recombinant Mycobacterium bovis Bacillus Calmette-Guerin expressing merozoite surface protein 1C(BCG-MSP-1C).Methods:The mice were immunized with BCG and BCG-MSP-1C in the presence and absence of *** untreated mice(injected with PBS-T80 only)were the negative *** ability of CRX-527 to enhance IgG and its subclasses,as well as IL-4 and IFN-γproduction in the serum and spleen supernatant was evaluated using ***:Mice immunized with BCG-MSP-1C exhibited the highest production of IgGs,IL-4 and IFN-γafter third *** addition,CRX-527 further promoted the production of total IgG and IgG subclasses as well as IFN-γand IL-4 in the serum and splenocytes of immunized ***:CRX-527 has the potential as an adjuvant candidate for the candidate *** study is needed to verify appropriate dosage for immunization and its efficacy.

Land use changes in urbanization,industrialization,and agricultural processes will continue to have negative impacts on water quality at all *** impact of land use changes on water quality is generally studied by analyzing the relationships between land use and water quality ***,the purpose of this research was to review and analyze the main relationships between land use and water quality,as well as to visualize the major sources and processes of water quality pollution in *** achieve our goal,we evaluated the significance of both land use and water quality attributes used in the past studies and correlated them to understand their relationship from another angle of *** results revealed that 87%of the reviewed studies indicated urban land use as a major source of water pollution,while 82%indicated agricultural land use,77%indicated forest land use,and 44%indicated other land ***,the results of correlation analysis showed that agricultural and forest-related activities more affected water quality through their significant positive correlation with physical and chemical indicators of water quality,while urban development activities had a greater impact on water quality through altering hydrological processes such as runoff and *** findings would provide decision-makers with useful information for managing water pollution processes rather than sources only.

Identifying the key purchase factors for organic food among Chinese consumers

The current study primarily aims to identify the critical purchase factors that affect Chinese consumer purchase intention and purchase decision with regard to organic food consumption,in accordance with a modified theory of planned behavior and the alphabet ***,this study builds a conceptual research framework by which to delve into the relationships between purchase factors and purchase intention,and elucidate the mediating roles of purchase factors in the relationships between purchase intention and purchase ***,by leveraging a modified theory of planned behavior and the alphabet theory,the current study also determines the critical roles of subjective norms and reveals the information and knowledge that impact consumer attitude toward the purchase of organic *** current study leverages the purposive sampling method and captures 310 records within Beijing,*** results indicate that purchase attitude correlates positively with subjective norms and knowledge,while purchase intention correlates positively with purchase attitude,perceived behavior control,and food therapy ***,purchase intention can significantly mediate relationships between each of purchase attitude,perceived behavior control,food therapy culture,and purchase ***,we discuss the theoretical and practical significance of the framework,and propose subsequent research directions regarding organic food purchase behavior.

Activity and Stability of Rare Earth-Based Hydride Alloys as Catalysts of Hydrogen Absorption-Oxidation Reactions

Rare earth-based AB(5)-type hydrogen storage alloys as catalysts of hydrogen-diffusion electrodes for hydrogen absorption and oxidation reactions in alkaline fuel cells were investigated. It is demonstrated that the metahydride hydrogen-diffusion electrodes could be charged by hydrogen gas and electrochemically discharged, at the same time to retain a stable oxidation potential for a long period. The catalytic activities and stability are almost comparable with a Pt catalyst on the active carbon. Further improvement of performances is expected via reduction of catalyst size into nanometers.
