Effect of nutrition-related infodemics and social media on maternal experience: A nationwide survey in a low/middle income country

Biochemical Liver Functions and molecular Identification of Fasciola hepatica from Experimentally Infected Rat model

The current study was performed to evaluate the liver function status as well as molecular characterization of the recovered worms in rats experimentally infected with F. hepatica. Sixteen male Wister rats aged 30 days were randomly allocated into two groups (n = 8). The first group was infected orally with 15 viable encysted metacercaria of F. hepatica per animal. The other group was kept non-infected (control group). At zero time (before infection), the 2nd, 4th, 6th, 8th, 10th, 12th and 14th weeks post-infection (WPI), blood and serum samples were collected via puncture of retro-orbital plexus of veins from each rat. Serum enzyme level (AST and ALT) and total protein were measured, and the serum protein profile was carried out using agarose gel electrophoresis. During the period of the experiment, serum ALT and AST activities and serum total globulins significantly increased while serum total proteins and albumin markedly decreased in the infected group. On the 14th WPI, the data of the electropherogram showed that globulin fractions (α1-, β- and γ-globulin) levels were significantly increased while α2-globulin was markedly decreased in the infected group. The molecular analysis confirmed the amplification of the ITS1, ITS2 and NDI genes of F. hepatica recovered from the infected liver of rats with amplicon sizes of 630, 510 and 560 bp, respectively. Sequencing of the amplified ITS gene resulted in the determination of 3 strains (PP108836, PP108837, and PP108838). Also, analysis of the ITS2 gene resulted in obtaining 3 isolates under the accession numbers (PP109065, PP109066, and PP109067). In conclusion, fasciolosis in the rat model is suitable for routine experimental infections and caused a pronounced liver dysfunction with discharging of the Fasciola eggs in the faeces and the development of adult stages in the bile ducts. Prevelance of Bovine Cysticercosis in Egypt and the Cysticidal Effect of Two Extracts Obtained from Balanites aegyptiaca and moringa oleifera on mice model Affected with T. saginata Cysticerci

The aim of the present study was to determine the prevalence of bovine cysticercosis in both cattle and buffloas, in Egypt and to assess the cysticidal efficacy of Balanites aegyptiaca fruits (B. aegyptiaca) and moringa oleifera seeds (m. oleifera) extracts in experimentally infected mice. The study detected the level of tumor necrosis factor (TNF-α) to monitor the immune and inflammatory responses of experimentally infected mice. Through meat inspection, a total number of 2125 male bovine, 2 to 5 years old, (1125 cattle and 1000 buffloes) were examined under the authority of Albsatine and Alwaraq official abattoirs in Cairo Governorate, Egypt covering the period extended from march 2022 to April 2023. The overall prevalence of the disease among bovine was 7.8% (6.31% of cattle and 9.5% of buffloes). Besides, B. aegyptiaca and m. oleifera extracts showed cysticidal activity in experimentally infected mice. A decrease in the numbers of cysticerci was found in all treated mice groups, and up to 88% reduction was achieved in the B. aegyptiaca-treated group;higher than that was recorded in both m. oleifera (72.23%) and albendazole-treated ones (80.56%). Postmortem findings proved that m. oleifera and B. aegyptiaca reduced cysticerci numbers comparable to a commercial anthelmintic. The study showed a significant decrease (P 0.001) in TNF-α levels after treatment with Balanites and moringa extracts, compared with the untreated control and the albendazole-treated groups.

Relationship between vitamin D and IL-23,IL-17 and macrophage chemoattractant protein-1 as markers of fibrosis in hepatitis C virus Egyptians

AIm: To assess vitamin D in hepatitis C patients and its relationship to interleukin (IL)-23, IL-17, and macrophage chemoattractant protein-1 (mCP-1). mETHODS: The study was conducted on 50 Egyptian hepatitis C virus (HCV) genotype number IV-infected patients and 25 age- and gender-matched healthy subjects. Venous blood samples were obtained. Samples were allowed to clot and sera were separated by centrifugation and stored at -20?°C. A 25 hydroxy vitamin D assay was carried out using solid phase RIA. A 1,25 dihydroxy vitamin D assay was carried out using a commercial kit purchased from Incstar Corporation. IL-17 and -23 and mCP-1 were assayed by an enzyme immunoassay. Quantitative and qualitative polymerase chain reaction for HCV virus were done by Taqman technology. Only HCV genotype IV-infected subjects were included in the study. The mean ± SD were determined, a t-test for comparison of means of different parameters was used. Correlation analysis was done using Pearson’s correlation. Differences among different groups were determined using the Kruskal-Wallis test. RESULTS: The mean vitamin D level in HCV patients (group?I) was 15 ± 5.2 ng/mL while in control (group II) was 39.7 ± 10.8. For active vitamin D in group?I?as 16.6 ± 4.8 ng/mL while in group II was 41.9 ± 7.9. IL-23 was 154 ± 97.8 in group?I?and 6.7 ± 2.17 in group II. IL-17 was 70.7 ± 72.5 in cases and 1.2 ± 0.4 in control. mCP-1 was 1582 ± 794.4 in group?I?and 216.1 ± 5.38 in group II. Vitamin D deficiency affected 72% of HCV-infected patients and 0% of the control group. Vitamin D insufficiency existed in 28% of HCV-infected patients and 12% of the control group. One hundred percent of the cirrhotic patients and 40% of non cirrhotic HCV-infected patients had vitamin D deficiency. IL-23, IL-17, and mCP-1 were markedly increased in HCV-infected patients in comparison to controls.A significant negative correlation between vitamin D and IL-17 and -23 and mCP-1 was detected. Floc meal as potential substitute for soybean meal in tilapia diets under biofloc system conditions

This study was conducted to evaluate the ef fect of replacing soybean meal(SBm) by low protein ?oc meal(LPFm; 24% CP) in tilapia diets on growth performance, feed utilization and ?sh chemical composition. Three isonitrogenous and isocaloric diets were formulated; control diet(C; without LPFm),Fm 25(25% of SBm protein was substituted by LPFm) and Fm 50(50% of SBm protein was substituted by LPFm). Nine 55 l circular plastic tanks were stocked by 12 ?sh to form three experimental *** dif ferences in tilapia performance were observed between the control and the Fm 25 diet. Chemical composition of ?sh did not dif fer signi?cantly among treatments except for protein and selenium contents where the highest values were recorded in the control treatment. The highest mineral content was recorded in ?oc collected from the control tanks, while calcium content showed its highest value in ?oc collected from Fm 50 e ? uent. These data indicate that replacing soybean meal with LPFm up to 25%, had no negative ef fect on growth performance and potentially may improve the system sustainability. meanwhile, the adverse ef fect of more inclusion of LPFm in tilapia diet may be attributed to the higher content of ash. In other word,minerals seem to cause more energy utilization in ?sh fed ?oc meal since it is needed to maintain osmotic homeostasis.

Effect of biometric characteristics on biomechanical properties of the cornea in cataract patient

AIm： To determine the impact of biometric characteristics on the biomechanical properties of the human cornea using the ocular response analyzer （ORA） and standard comprehensive ophthalmic examinations before and after standard phacoemulsificaUon. mETHODS： This study comprised 54 eyes with cataract with significant lens opacification in stages I or II that underwent phacoemulsification （2.8 mm incision）. Corneal hysteresis （CH）, corneal resistance factor （CRF）, Goldmann-correlated intraocular pressure （IOPg）, and corneal-compensated intraocular pressure （IOPcc） were measured by ORA preoperatively and at lmo postoperatively. Biometric characteristics were derived from corneal topography [TmS-5, anterior equivalent （EQTmS） and cylindric （CYLTmS） power], corneal tomography [Casia, anterior and posterior equivalent （EQaCASC, EQpCASIA） and cylindric （CYLaCASIA, CYLpCASIA） power], keratometry [IOLmaster, anterior equivalent （EQIOL） and cylindric （CYL,oL） power] and autorefractor [anterior equivalent （EQAR）]. Results from ORA were analyzed and correlated with those from all other examinations taken at the same time point. RESULTS： Preoperatively, CH correlated with EQpCASIA and CYLpCASIA only （P=0.001, P=0.002）. Postoperatively, IOPg and IOPcc correlated with all equivalent powers （EQTmS, EQIOL, EQAR, EQaCASIA, and EQpCASIA）（P=0.001, P=0.007, P=0.001, P= 0.015, P=0.03 for IOPg and P〈0.001, ,0=0.003, P〈0.001, P= 0.009, P=0.014 for IOPcc）. CH correlated postoperatively with EQaCASIA and EQpCASIA only （P=0.021, P=0.022）. CONCLUSION： Biometric characteristics may significantly affect biomechanical properties of the cornea in terms of CH, IOPcc and IOPg before, but even more after cataract surgery.
