In this paper,we discuss a global stabilization problem for a two-dimensional nonlinear system from the perspective of the ‘realization problem of global compact attractors’ in the theory of gradient-like Morse-Smale controlled *** give the topological structure of a desired compact attractor using a graphic data of the corresponding normal CW *** control system configuration space is the direct-product of the state space and the input *** the topological intersection theory in the configuration space,we derive a topological obstruction for controlled systems,which called the ‘flow condition’.We propose a solving algorithm for this realization problem and discuss some numerical results.

BackgroundTo compare the arithmetic mean (M-SIA) and the summated vector mean of surgically induced astigmatism (SVM-SIA) according to the incision site after phakic intraocular lens (Visian implantable collamer lens (ICL), STAAR Surgical) *** study comprised 121 eyes of 121 consecutive patients undergoing ICL surgery through a 3.0-mm temporal or superior clear corneal incision. The magnitude and the axis of corneal astigmatism preoperatively and 3 months postoperatively were measured using an automated keratometer. The M-SIA and the SVM-SIA were determined according to the incision *** magnitude of corneal astigmatism significantly increased from 1.23 ± 0.59 D preoperatively to 1.46 ± 0.72 D postoperatively in the temporal incision group (Wilcoxon signed-rank test, P < 0.001), but it significantly decreased from 1.09 ± 0.36 D preoperatively to 0.86 ± 0.41 D postoperatively in the superior incision group (P < 0.001). The M-SIA was 0.48 ± 0.30 D, and the SVM-SIA was 0.23 ± 0.52 D at a meridian of 82° in the temporal incision group. The M-SIA was 0.57 ± 0.30 D, and the SVM-SIA was 0.47 ± 0.45 D at a meridian of 1° in the superior incision *** implantation induces the M-SIA by approximately 0.5 D, but the SVM-SIA decreased to 50% and 80% of the M-SIA in magnitude through temporal and superior incisions, respectively. The direction of the SVM-SIA showed a tendency toward corneal flattening to the incisional site. It should be noted that the M-SIA is somewhat different from the SVM-SIA according to the incision site.

Background: Among elderly people, rehabilitation is important for reducing the risk of falls and hospitalization and to maintain an independent life for longer. Motivation is a factor for elderly people to lead an active daily life and leave home more frequently. Purpose: The purposes of this study were to determine the optimal cut-off point in the Scale for Achievement Motive in Geriatrics (SAMG) that could identify individuals as inactive or active, based on the Frenchay Activities Index (FAI), and to compare characteristics between active and inactive groups classified by the cut-off point. Methods: A cross-sectional study of 285 community-dwelling elderly people measured SAMG and FAI and physical function. Receiver operating characteristic (ROC) analysis was used to calculate the area under the curve (AUC) that was the optimal cut-off point for the SAMG total score, with the associated sensitivity and 1-specificity when compared with the FAI results. Demographic parameters and physical function were compared between two groups defined by cut-off point. Results: The AUC was 0.78, the optimal cut-off for SAMG total score for indicating inactivity was ≤48, the sensitivity was 77.98% and the 1-specificity was 75.00%. The group with SAMG score >48 was characterized by a significantly higher proportion of women, fewer people sharing a house, and participation in more hobbies. Discussion: A cut-off point of 48 in the SAMG could be a predictive index of motivation toward goals for individuals with inactive daily activities. The group with score higher than the cut-off was characterized by more women, fewer people living together, and more hobbies than the group with lower scores.

The direct upgrading process from heavy crude oil to sweet and light oil (IKC process) has been deve loped for about 10 years in Idemitsu Kosan. Compared with conventional refinery scheme consisting of YR HDS, VGOHYC and so on, the new refinery scheme combined with IKC process and Topper was always economically feasible with lower cost and smaller energy consumption. In the existing refinery of no middle distillate HDS and residue HDS of HYC plants to supplement IKC process is expected to be one of the efficient methods to cope with the environmental regulations.

The size and performance of a System LSI depend heavily on the architecture which is chosen. As a result, the architecture design phase is one of the most important steps in the System LSI development process and is critical to the commercial success of a device. In this paper, we propose a C-based variable length and vector pipeline (VVP) architecture design methodology and apply it to the design of the output probability computation circuit for a speech recognition system. VVP processing accelerated by loop optimization, memory access methods, and application-specific cir- cuit design was implemented to calculate the Hidden Markov Model (HMM) output probability at high speed and its performance is evaluated. It is shown that designers can explore a wide range of design choices and generate complex circuits in a short time by using a C-based pipeline architecture design method.

In this study, flow structures and mixing performance in a blade-free planetary mixer, which combines rotation and revolution motions inside a cylindrical vessel, are numerically investigated. Flow fields in the mixer vessel are simulated in a single rotating reference frame with various revolution speeds and a fixed rotation speed. The mixing process is investigated by a Lagrangian particle tracking method and the mixing performance is evaluated based on particle concentration. The results of the numerical simulations show that a vortical flow with an axis inclined with respect to the rotation axis of the vessel is generated by the combined influence of the rotation and revolution motions. The flow structure and vortical flow intensity vary as a function of the precession rate, which is the ratio of the revolution speed to rotation speed. The mixing performance of the blade-free planetary mixer is found to be maximum at aspecific precession rate.

Purpose/Aim: We aimed to investigate the effect of monocular blur on the binocular visual field. Materials and Methods: A total of 13 healthy young volunteers participated in this study. The mean subjective refractive error of the dominant eye (DE) was -3.33 ± 1.65D, and the non-dominant eye (NDE) was -3.15 ± 2.84D. The DE was determined by using the hole-in-the-card test. The visual field was examined by the Humphrey Visual Field Analyzer using the 30-2 SITA Standard program. The visual field was measured while wearing soft contact lens under three conditions;① both eyes: near vision correction;② DE: near vision correction +3.00D added, NDE: near vision correction;and ③ DE: near vision correction, NDE: near vision correction +3.00D added. The foveal threshold, mean deviation (MD), and pattern standard deviation (PSD) values were investigated. Results: The foveal threshold value (dB) at ①, ②, and ③ was 41.2, 37.8, and 38.1, respectively. The values at ② and ③ were both significantly lower than that at ① (p Conclusion: These results suggest that monocular blur reduced the sensitivity within the binocular visual field.
