Background: Erosive esophagitis (EE) is a gastroesophageal reflux disease characterized by mucosal breaks in the esophagus. Proton pump inhibitors are widely used as maintenance therapy for EE, but many patients still relapse. In this trial, we evaluated the noninferiority of vonoprazanvs. lansoprazole as maintenance therapy in patients with healed EE.Methods: We performed a double-blind, double-dummy, multicenter, phase 3 clinical trial among non-Japanese Asian adults with endoscopically confirmed healed EE from April 2015 to February 2019. Patients from China, South Korea, and Malaysia were randomized to vonoprazan 10 mg or 20 mg once daily or lansoprazole 15 mg once daily for 24 weeks. The primary endpoint was endoscopically confirmed EE recurrence rate over 24 weeks with a noninferiority margin of 10% using a two-sided 95% confidence interval (CI). Treatment-emergent adverse events (TEAEs) were recorded.Results: Among 703 patients, EE recurrence was observed in 24/181 (13.3%) and 21/171 (12.3%) patients receiving vonoprazan 10 mg or 20 mg, respectively, and 47/184 (25.5%) patients receiving lansoprazole (differences: -12.3% [95% CI, -20.3% to-4.3%] and -13.3% [95% CI, -21.3% to -5.3%], respectively), meeting the primary endpoint of noninferiority to lansoprazole in preventing EE recurrence at 24 weeks. Evidence of superiority (upper bound of 95% CI <0%) was also observed. At 12 weeks, endoscopically confirmed EE recurrence was observed in 5/18, 2/20, and 7/20 of patients receiving vonoprazan 10 mg, vonoprazan 20 mg, and lansoprazole, respectively. TEAEs were experienced by 66.8% (157/235), 69.0% (156/226), and 65.3% (158/242) of patients receiving vonoprazan 10 mg, vonoprazan 20 mg, and lansoprazole, respectively. The most common TEAE was upper respiratory tract infection in 12.8% (30/235) and 12.8% (29/226) patients in vonoprazan 10 mg and 20 mg groups, respectively and 8.7% (21/242) patients in lansoprazole group.Conclusion: Vonoprazan maintenance therapy was well-tolerated and noninferior to lansoprazole f

Aiming to improve the battery performance of lithium-ion batteries(LIBs),modification of the cathodes and anodes of LIBs using laser beams to prepare through-holes,non-through-holes or ditches arranged in grid and line patterns has been proposed by many researchers and engineers.In this study,a laser processing system attached to rollers,which realizes this modification without large changes in the present mass-production system,was developed.The laser system apparatus comprises roll-to-roll equipment and laser equipment.The roll-to-roll equipment mainly consists of a hollow cylinder with openings on its circumferential surface.Cathode and anode electrodes for LIBs are wound around the cylinder in the longitudinal direction of the electrodes.A pulsed beam reflected from the central axis of the cylinder can continuously open a large number of through-holes in the thin electrodes.Through-holes were formed at a rate of 100000 holes per second on lithium iron phosphate cathodes and graphite anodes with this system.The through-holed cathodes and anodes prepared with this system exhibited higher C-rate performance than nontreated cathodes and anodes.

To move the performance of lithium-ion batteries into the next stage,the modification of the structure of cells is the only choice except for the development of materials exhibiting higher performance.In this review paper,the employment of through-holing structures of anodes and cathodes prepared with a picosecond pulsed laser has been proposed.The laser system and the structure for improving the battery performance were introduced.The performance of laminated cells constructed with through-holed anodes and cathodes was reviewed from the viewpoints of the improvement of high-rate performance and energy density,removal of unbalanced capacities on both sides of the current collector,even greater high-rate performance by hybridizing cathode materials and removal of irreversible capacity.In conclusion,the points that should be examined and the problem for the through-holed structure to be in practical use are summarized.

The visual integrity of mountains contributing to cultural landscapes as nature-culture attributes is often obscured by the vertical intrusive built environment,especially in bufer areas of protected heritage zones.Therefore,this study argued that even low/medium-rise buildings that inappropriately appear in the horizontal visual plane could be a factor increasing sensitivity to this panoramic view.An integrative tool–visual sensitivity assessment–consists of Viewshed and Skyline analysis considering the pedestrian’s visual limitation in identifying the sensitive areas of the mountain view corridor in the historic city of Chiang Mai.The visible mountain areas(VMAs)were determined as a baseline,and their relationship with the visible building areas(VBAs)was then examined using statistical correlation to defne a strong negative relationship as the visual sensitive areas in fve zones.The results showed that the bufer zone was found to have more areas with visual sensitivity values,but this varies depending on the characteristics of buildings and the assessment from the view corridor.Meanwhile,in height-restricted areas,such as historic area zone 5,there are some concerns about the visual intrusion,which necessitates continuous monitoring using the assessment result as a guideline.Incorporating the results into implementation could support cultural landscape conservation in Chiang Mai city.The method is applicable in historic cities with similar settings to produce the baseline for the built environment that is harmonious with the cultural and historical characteristics of the city and with respect to its broader setting.

In order to further understand high-temperature deformation behavior and its-related mechanical prop-erties,the Portevin-Le Chatelier(PLC)effect in an Fe-19Cr-13Ni-0.2C austenitic stainless steel was in-vestigated using high-temperature digital image correlation(DIC)analysis.Under the tensile testing at temperatures from 473 to 623 K,different types of serrated flow appeared even at a constant applied strain rate,and the type transition took place dynamically in a certain order with deformation time.DIC analysis revealed that the dynamic type transition of the serrated flow obeys the PLC band propagation behavior,and that the transition of the PLC band propagation behavior could be attributed to the PLC band nucleation manner.Numerical modeling also proved that the nucleation manner of PLC band nu-cleation is determined by the spatial-temporal coupling effect.

Aim:To provide experimental data for further research on the signal transductionof apoptosis in lung adenocarcinoma cells,we examined the effects of exogenousC2-ceramide administration on several members of the mitogen-activated proteinkinase(MAPK)superfamily and caspase-3 in A549 cells.Methods:Cell viabilityand apoptosis were analyzed by cell counting kit-8 assay and flow cytometry.Various MAPK and caspase-3 proteins were detected by Western blotting.Results:C2-ceramide selectively altered the phosphorylation state &members ofthe MAPK superfamily,causing hyperphosphorylation ofmitogen-activated pro-tein kinase kinase(MEK)1/2 and the p38 MAPK,but not affecting the phosphory-lation ofextracellular signal-regulated kinase 1/2 and the c-Jun N-terminal kinase.SB-203580(a p38 MAPK inhibitor)and p38 siRNA,but not U0126(a MEKinhibitor),partially rescued cell death induced by C2-ceramide.C2-ceramide promoted theactivation of caspase-3.Conclusion:Exogenous C2-ceramide induced apoptosisin human lung adenocarcinoma A549 cells.The activation of MAPK and caspase-3were involved in the mechanisms ofC2-ceramide-induced apoptosis in A549 cells.

A giant earthquake of magnitude 9.0 occurred in Pacific Ocean off of Tohoku District Japan on March 11,2011. The highest seismic intensity of 7 in JMA scale was recorded in Miyagi. In the Tohoku district, around 230 buildings are seismically isolated （hereafter, SI） mainly by elastomeric isolators （seismic rubber bearings）. According to the official survey reports by several organizations （for example）, the records of those buildings have verified the effectiveness of the seismic isolation. The response acceleration of the SI buildings was reduced by 30% to 50% of the input ground acceleration. Additionally, the difference of the conditions inside the room between SI and the fixed-base buildings was obvious as well as the damage in main structures of the buildings. The displacements of the isolators by the earthquake were around 200 mm according to the records of the instruments. As a result, the performance of SI buildings and the elastomeric isolators in the Tohoku District -- Off the Pacific Ocean Earthquake 2011 were excellent, and the efficiency of the seismic isolation was verified by the records of many buildings in wide area.
