Mango fruit exposed to sunlight develops red skin and are more resistant to biotic and abiotic *** we show that harvested red mango fruit that was exposed to sunlight at the orchard is more resistant than green fruit to Colletotrichum *** analysis showed high amounts of antifungal compounds,as glycosylated flavonols,glycosylated anthocyanins,and mangiferin in red *** mango skin,correlated with higher antioxidant and lower ***,also the green side of red mango fruit that has low levels of flavonoids was resistant,indicated induced *** of red and green fruit inoculated on their red and green sides with *** were ***,in red fruit skin,2,187 genes were upregulated in response to *** the green side of red mango,upregulation of 22 transcription factors and 33 signaling-related transcripts indicated induced *** RNA-Seq analysis suggests that resistance of the whole red fruit involved upregulation of ethylene,brassinosteroid,and phenylpropanoid *** conclude,red fruit resistance to fungal pathogen was related to both flavonoid toxicity and primed resistance of fruit that was exposed to light at the orchard.

Correction-free remotely scanned two-photon in vivo mouse retinal imaging

Non-invasive fluorescence retinal imaging in small animals is an important requirement for an array of translational vision *** in vivo two-photon imaging of the mouse retina may enable the long-term investigation of the structure and function of healthy and diseased retinal ***,to date,this has only been possible using relatively complex adaptive-optics ***,the optical modeling of the murine eye and of the imaging system is used to achieve correction-free two-photon microscopy through the pupil of a mouse eye to yield high-quality,optically sectioned fundus *** remotely scanning the focus using an electronically tunable lens,high-resolution three-dimensional fluorescein angiograms and cellular-scale images are acquired,thus introducing a correction-free baseline performance level for two-photon in vivo retinal ***,the system enables functional calcium imaging of repeated retinal responses to light stimulation using the genetically encoded indicator,*** results and the simplicity of the new add-on optics are an important step toward several structural,functional,and multimodal imaging applications that will benefit from the tight optical sectioning and the use of near-infrared light.

Objective screening for olfactory and gustatory dysfunction during the COVID-19 pandemic: A prospective study in healthcare workers using self-administered testing

Background: Smell and taste loss are highly prevalent symptoms in coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19), although few studies have employed objective measures to quantify these symptoms, especially dysgeusia. Reports of unrecognized anosmia in COVID-19 patients suggests that self-reported measures are insufficient for capturing patients with chemosensory ***: The purpose of this study was to quantify the impact of recent COVID-19 infection on chemosensory function and demonstrate the use of at-home objective smell and taste testing in an at-risk population of healthcare ***: Two hundred and fifty healthcare workers were screened for possible loss of smell and taste using online surveys. Self-administered smell and taste tests were mailed to respondents meeting criteria for elevated risk of infection, and one-month follow-up surveys were ***: Among subjects with prior SARS-CoV-2 infection, 73% reported symptoms of olfactory and/or gustatory dysfunction. Self-reported smell and taste loss were both strong predictors of COVID-19 positivity. Subjects with evidence of recent SARS-CoV-2 infection (<45 days) had significantly lower olfactory scores but equivalent gustatory scores compared to other subjects. There was a time-dependent increase in smell scores but not in taste scores among subjects with prior infection and chemosensory symptoms. The overall infection rate was 4.4%, with 2.5% reported by PCR ***: Healthcare workers with recent SARS-CoV-2 infection had reduced olfaction and normal gustation on self-administered objective testing compared to those without infection. Rates of infection and chemosensory symptoms in our cohort of healthcare workers reflect those of the general public.

Recycling of Spent Mushroom Substrate （SMS） in Avocado Orchards

Spent mushroom substrates （SMS） are usually treated as wastes. One of the main beneficial uses of SMS is as soil amendment, after further composting, for horticulture. Avocado orchards in Northern Israel, are grown mainly on heavy clay soils, suffering from poor drainage and limited aeration. This situation can cause yield decrease and lead to tree＇s degeneration. In the present study, two soil cover （mulch） treatments were compared, in an avocado orchard, as means to solve this problem： SMS and cattle manure compost （CMC）. The yields of two avocado varieties were higher on SMS than CMC mulch. Thick growth of avocado roots was found in and under both mulch types. Soil＇s electrical conductivity （EC） values were high under both mulch types, although they later decreased, due to annual rainfall. There are treatments （leaching etc.） that can be used, for minimizing the increase of soil＇s salinity after SMS application. Enhancement of avocado root growth into and under the mulch can lead to improvement of avocado trees growth, especially on heavy un-drained soils. Therefore, SMS recycling is advantageous for both avocado and mushroom growers. The commercial utilization of SMS in avocado orchards should be done carefully, with monitoring its impact on soil＇s EC （salinity） and taking the needed measures to avoid unnecessary damages.

Is Neutrophil-to-Lymphocyte Ratio a Prediction Marker for Success of Immunotherapy? Preliminary Results

Background: Cancer immunotherapy treatments enhance the cancer treatment approach. The neutrophil-to-lymphocyteratio (NLR) has been associated with cancer prognosis, affecting progression, chemosensitivity, radiosensitivity and toxicity. Patients and Methods: Ten patients (nine males, one female), aged 68 ± 10 years, were included in this study. Six patients had squamous cell carcinoma of the lungs and two had adenocarcinoma of the lungs. One patient suffered from limb soft tissue sarcoma and one had renal cell carcinoma. All patients had metastatic disease and were pretreated with chemotherapy or biologic agents. The rationale of testing NLR was to compare it to the clinical response of the patients assessed by RECIST criteria using computerized tomography (CT) scans. Results: In regression analysis, older patients were found to respond better to immunotherapy treatment than younger patients. NLR was 4.26 ± 2.25 (p 0.01) in the older patients group and 2.84 ± 0.90 (p 0.01) in the younger patients group. No difference in response according to tumor type (p = 0.479) was observed. Conclusion: We provide preliminary evidence demonstrating that low NLR helps in understanding the value of the underlying immune system in expecting a good outcome to immune treatment. The NLR is a simple and available biomarker, easy to apply in clinical practice.
