A series of replicated growth chamber studies were conducted to determine the effects of soil type and simulated European temperature conditions from fall planting to anthesis in Hungary, United Kingdom, Italy and Norway on the initiation of Tilletia indica teliospore germination on the soil surface. A concurrent study examined effects on teliospore germination of a simulated temperature profile for Ciudad Obregon, Mexico, where Karnal bunt is known to occur. Three soil moisture treatments were tested;40.5% water holding capacity (WHC), 16.2% WHC and weekly fluctuation of soil WHC. Results suggest that soil type would not have a significant effect on germination during the cropping season. Under all conditions tested, some portion of the teliospore population remained dormant but viable throughout the entire season. In comparing Mexican and Hungarian temperature profiles, highest soil surface germination for the Hungarian profile was at 40.5% WHC during the first 30 days of the simulation (30 days after planting date). The highest germination for the Mexican profile was at the 16.2% WHC during the last 30 days of the study (time of anthesis).

Silicon technology offers the enticing opportunity for monolithic integration of quantum and classical electronic ***,the power consumption levels of classical electronics may compromise the local chip temperature and hence affect the fidelity of qubit *** the current work,a quantum-dot-based thermometer embedded in an industry-standard silicon fieldeffect transistor(FET)was adopted to assess the local temperature increase produced by an active FET placed in close *** impact of both static and dynamic operation regimes was thoroughly *** the FET was operated statically,a power budget of 45 nW at 100-nm separation was found,whereas at 216μm,the power budget was raised to 150μ*** temperature increase for the switch frequencies tested up to 10 MHz was observed when operating *** current work introduced a method to accurately map out the available power budget at a distance from a solid-state quantum processor,and indicated the possible conditions under which cryoelectronics circuits may allow the operation of hybrid quantum-classical systems.

Background Buruli ulcer disease(BUD)is a necrotic skin neglected tropical disease(NTD)that has both a mental and physical health impact on affected *** there is increasing evidence suggesting a strong association between neglected tropical diseases(NTDs)and mental illness,there is a relative lack of information on BUD’s impact on the mental health and quality of life(QoL)of affected individuals in *** study is to assess the impact of BUD on mental health and quality of life of patients with active and past BUD infection,and their *** We conducted a case control study in 3 BUD endemic districts in Ghana between August and November ***-to-face structured questionnaire-based interviews were conducted on BUD patients with active and past infection,as well as caregivers of BUD patients using WHO Quality of Life scale,WHO Disability Assessment Schedule,Self-Reporting Questionnaire,Buruli Ulcer Functional Limitation Score and Hospital Anxiety and Depression Scale data *** statistics were used to summarize the characteristics of the study *** groups were compared using student t test and chi-square(χ2)or Fisher’s exact *** quality of life scores are reported with their respective 95%confidence *** was analysed using STATA statistical *** Our results show that BUD patients with active and past infection,along with their caregivers,face significant levels of distress and mental health sequelae compared to ***(P=0.003)was more common in participants with active(27%)and past BU infection(17%),compared to controls(0%).Anxiety was found in 42%(11/26)and 20%(6/29)of participants with active and past BUD infection compared to 14%(5/36)of *** of life was also significantly diminished in active BUD infection,compared to *** the physical health domain,mean QoL scores were 54±11.1 and 56±11.0(95%CI:49.5‒58.5 and 52.2‒59.7)respectively for p

We report on frequency doubling of high-energy,high repetition rate ns pulses from a cryogenically gas cooled multi-slab ytterbium-doped yttrium aluminum garnet laser system,Bivoj/DiPOLE,using a type-I phase matched lithium triborate *** achieved conversion to 515 nm with energy of 95 J at repetition rate of 10 Hz and conversion efficiency of 79%.High conversion efficiency was achieved due to successful depolarization compensation of the fundamental input beam.
