Nutraceutical Potentiality of Fruits of Red Variety of Pseudospondias microcarpa (A. Rich) Engl.

The red fruits of Pseudospondias microcarpa (A. Rich) Engl. are widely consumed by the populations of northern congo for their sweet and tangy flavor as well as for their characteristic smell. The objective of this study was to show the food potential of the fruits of this plant for their valorization. Organic solvent extracts were prepared and subjected to phytochemical screening to determine the nutrients and phytonutrients of this fruit. Raw juice was extracted by trituration without adding water and subjected to physicochemical and biochemical analyses in order to determine its quality and its antiradical activity. The raw juice obtained is moderately acidic (pH 3.28), very cloudy and colored (turbidity of 1019 NTU). It has a dry matter content of 3.771% ± 0.013% reflecting the 70% dominance of water in the weight of the fruit and the presence of dissolved organic matter in its juice. Energy nutrients (sugars, amino acids), carotenoids, coumarins, tannins, flavonoids, terpenes and sterols have been highlighted as nutrients with therapeutic potential commonly called phytonutrients of this fruit. The juice presented a dominance in polyphenols (134.8500 ± 0.0023 mg gallic acid/100 g) than in carotenoids (5.100 ± 0.010 mg carotene/100 g), high levels of mineral macroelements (calcium: 3570.00 ± 2.05 mg and potassium: 4576.00 ± 9.49 mg) and trace elements (copper: 11.13 ± 0.10 mg, iron: 3.02 ± 0.03 mg and zinc: 2.57 ± 0.08 mg). These compounds exhibited good antioxidant activity. The presence of these nutrients and phytonutrients in these fruits is interesting for the proper functioning of certain organs and the prevention of certain diseases. This fruit is therefore an energizing and functional food that can compete with conventional fruits whose juices are marketed.

Phytochemical screening and assay of secondary metabolites, crude extracts with distilled water, aqueous methanol, aqueous acetone and aqueous ethanol of leaves and seeds of Senna occidentalis L. were studied in this work. The aim was to verify the distribution of secondary metabolites according to S. occidentalis organs. Four leaf samples from four different localities (South, East, West and central Senegal) and a mixed sample of seeds were used. Functional molecules such as polyphenols, flavonoids and tannins were then assessed in the leaves and seeds using various standard methods. The results show that Senna occidentalis L. leaf and seed samples display an identical and homogeneous profile, regardless of locality. They contain secondary metabolites and the polyphenol content of extracts from southern, eastern, western and central leaves is: 0.620 - 0.539 - 0.811 - 0.573 g GAE/100 g DM;flavonoids: 0.064 - 0.074 - 0.130 - 0.101 g cE/100 g DM and tannins: 0.326 - 0.264 - 0.269 - 0.494 g TAE/100 g DM. The efficacy of S. occidentalis L. infusions in therapy is thus justified by the presence of these metabolites, whose biological properties are well known. It is then possible to explore isolation of active principles of Senna occidentalis L. leaves and even seeds for producing medicines.

On the computation of Extinction Time for Some Nonlinear Parabolic Equations

The phenomenon of extinction is an important property of solutions for many evolutionary equa-tions. In this paper, a numerical simulation for computing the extinction time of nonnegative solu-tions for some nonlinear parabolic equations on general domains is presented. The solution algo-rithm utilizes the Donor-cell scheme in space and Euler’s method in time. Finally, we will give some numerical experiments to illustrate our algorithm.

This study made it possible to determine by the application of thermodynamics in finished time, the points of instruction necessary to the development of a regulation system for the rationalization of the power consumption in a cold store. These points were obtained by determining the optimal variations of temperature as well to the condenser and the evaporator corresponding to the minimum capacity absorptive by the compressor for a maximum cOP.

In this paper, we are interested by the dissolution of NAPL (Non-Aqueous Phase Liquid) contaminants in heterogeneous soils or aquifers. The volume averaging technique is applied to 2D systems with Darcy-scale heterogeneities. A large-scale model is derived from a Darcy-scale dissolution model in the case of small and large Damkholer numbers, i.e., for smooth or sharp dissolution fronts. The resulting models in both cases have the mathematical structure of a non-equilibrium dissolution model. It is shown how to calculate the resulting mass exchange and relative permeability terms from the Darcy-scale heterogeneities and other fluid properties. One of the important finding is that the obtained values have a very different behavior compared to the Darcy-scale usual correlations. The large scale correlations are also very different between the two limit cases. The resulting large-scale models are compared favorably to Darcy-scale direct simulations.

Hydrochemical characteristics of the Groundwater AQ1 of the Region from Pointe-Noire to congo Brazzaville

The study is interested in chemical quality of water of the one of the five aquifers, unconfined water AQ1, (other free groundwaters AQ2, AQ3, AQ4 and AQ5 being captive) in the area of Pointe-Noire. A series of physicochemical analysis was carried out on the samples of water of the zone. The results of these analyses were treated starting from a chemical-hydro method which uses the diagrams of Piper, Stabler, Schoeller Berkaloff, Stiff, Wilcox and the statistical methods classic. These chemical-hydro results made it possible to highlight the prevalence of sodic and potassic facies chlorinated in groundwaters of the unconfined water of the area of Pointe-Noire. In this area, the groundwaters of the unconfined water gather in three principal-hydro facies: sodic and potassic chlorinated waters are the most important (66.7%) in the studied water;calcic and magnesian bicarbonated water (16.65%) and bicarbonated sodic and potassic ones (16.65%). This study reveals that the groundwaters of the area of Pointe-Noire undergo an intrusion saltworks. As a whole, these groundwaters require in certain cases, a specific treatment before consumption.

Severe Variant of Sickle cell Intrahepatic cholestasis a Difficult Approach Diagnosis clinical Presentation and Outcome in Adult Population in the congo

Background: There are no consensual diagnosis criteria to make diagnosis of sickle cell intrahepatic cholestasis and identify its 2 variants. Here we delineate the frequency of the complication in its severe form and describe its clinical features. Methods: We included in the study all the patients with sickle cell disease who were presenting fever, jaundice, pain in the upper right quadrant and filling up the biological criteria of the severe sickle cell intrahepatic cholestasis (serum direct bilirubin ≥ 78.5 mg/dL). Patients with evidence of viral hepatitis or gallstones were not included in the study. Results: Sixty-two patients with an average age of 21.5 years (range 18 and 25 years) meet the inclusion criteria, minimum serum direct bilirubin: 82 versus 528 for the maximum. The liver cytolysis was major and ranged from 310 to 1550 UI/L. Forty-nine patients (83.9%) did not develop any organ failure. The symptoms and biological abnormalities resolved with supportive treatment within 7 days. The global lethality was 16.1% associated with liver failure. conclusion: Severe sickle cell intrahepatic cholestasis is more frequent than we thought and was mainly represented by borderline clinical feature. Early intervention may reduce the progression to organ failure stage and ultimate death.

In order to contribute to reduction of morbidity and mortality due to low acute respiratory infections in pediatrics, the objective of this study was to determine the epidemiological profile and to identify the factors favoring and those associated with the risk of deceased. We reviewed the cases of children aged between 1 and 59 months hospitalized between January and December 2015 in the pediatric intensive care unit of the cHU of Brazzaville and retained those whose diagnosis of discharge was an ALRI. The study variables were: epidemiological, clinical, paraclinic, diagnostic, therapeutic and evolutionary. For 2012 hospitalized children, 400 (19.8%) were hospitalized for an ALRI. There were 235 boys (58.8%) and 165 girls (41.2%) of average age. Infants aged 1 to 11 months were the most affected n = 260 (65%). They were insufficiently immunized with haemophilus influenza B and pneumococcus n = 378 (94.5%);Fully immunized n = 20 (5%), the average delay for consultation after the first symptom was 5.03 ± 3.86 days;Denutrition was rated n = 180 (45%), positive retroviral serology n = 19 cases (4.8%). The main nosological varieties were: bronchiolitis n = 223 (55.7%), pneumonia n = 145 (36.2%). One death was rated n = 65 (16.3%). The mortality determinants were: prematurity, vaccination status and HIV/AIDS infection. The frequency and severity of ALRIs necessitates a strengthened program of integrated management of childhood illnesses, and public health actions targeting the factors that promote and contribute to the risk of death.

Prevalence and Genotyping of Human Papillomavirus among Women in the Departments of Niari and Bouenza, Republic of the congo

Human papillomaviruses (HPV) are at the origin of many mucosal, benign or malignant skin pathologies. Some so-called high-risk genotypes, especially types 16 and 18, are involved in the genesis of cervical cancer, one of the most common cancers in women. To determine the prevalence of HPV infections and to identify oncogenic genotypes circulating in the departments of Niari and Bouenza. A total of 207 cervical samples collected between 2019 and 2020 were studied. cervico vaginal smears were performed on all samples for cytological analysis, and HPV DNA detection and genotyping were performed on GeneXpert. The average age of the women who participated in this study was 43.67 ± 12.31 years in Niari and 38.29 ± 10.52 in Bouenza with age intervals ranging from 18 to 80 years. cytological analysis of these samples reported the following prevalences: Normal diagnosed in 89.58% (186/207) cases, AScUS in 5.31% (11/207) cases, LSIL in 2.89% (6/207) cases, and Icc in 1.93% (4/207) cases. The prevalence of HPV infection was detected in 83.54% (66/186) of women without lesions, 6.32% (5/11) of AScUS women and 10.12% (8/10) of women with cytological abnormalities [5.06% (4/6) LSIL, and 5.06% (4/4) Icc]. In total, 79 of the 207 women in our study tested positive for one or more HPV-HR types, or 38.16%. In the department of Niari 37.5% (48/128) women tested positive for HPV, and in the department of Bouenza 39.24% (31/79) tested positive for HPV. Multiple infections ranged from two to more than three strains of HPV. No statistically significant association was observed between socio-demographic characteristics and genotyping (p > 0.05). On the other hand, HPV-HR prevalence varied significantly according to cervical cytology (p = 0.001). The results obtained show the predominance of HPV 16 in women in these two departments of congo.

Asthma in children at the Pediatric Intensive care Unit of University Hospital of Brazzaville (congo)

Objectives: To describe the epidemiological, clinical and therapeutic aspects of asthma in children at the Pediatric Intensive care Unit of University Hospital of Brazzaville. Patients and methods: We reviewed the records of children hospitalized in the Pediatric Intensive care Unit of University Hospital of Brazzaville from January 1 to December 31, 2015, and retained those from two months to 17 years hospitalized for asthma. The study variables were: age, sex, influence of seasons, history of atopy;the factors triggering the crisis, the type of follow-up, the degree of severity of asthma exacerbation, the type of treatment instituted and the course of the disease. In total, out of 2012 hospitalized children, 65 children met the inclusion criteria. Results: The hospital prevalence of asthma was 3.5%. Among 65 children of study, 42 (59.2%) were male and 29 (40.8%) female. The mean age was 3.9 ± 2.9 years (range from 2 months to 14 years). children aged 30 months to 5 years were the most represented (40%). They were known as asthmatics, n = 18 (27.7%). Family atopy was found, n = 11 (16.9%). Acute Otorhinolaryngologic infections were in all cases the factors triggering the crisis. The peak frequency of hospitalizations for asthma occurred during the short rainy season. The crisis was moderate n = 46 (70%) and severe n = 19 (29%). Beta 2 mimetics were administered in all cases, by subcutaneous in 18 cases (27.7%) and inhaled in 47 cases (72.3%). The outcome was favorable in all cases with a mean hospital stay of 1.46 ± 0.92 days. conclusion: childhood asthma remains a public health challenge and severe asthma is the paradigm of uncontrolled and costly asthma. This first work suggests that a large-scale study be carried out for a better knowledge of it.
