Syn-sedimentary tectonics and facies analysis in a rift setting: Cretaceous Dalmiapuram Formation, Cauvery Basin, SE India

The Cretaceous(Albian-Cenomanian) Dalmiapuram Formation is one of the economically significant constituents in the hydrocarbon-producing Cauvery rift basin, SE India that opened up during the Late Jurassic e Early Cretaceous Gondwanaland fragmentation. The fossil-rich Dalmiapuram Formation,exposed at Ariyalur within the Pondicherry sub-basin of Cauvery Basin, rests in most places directly on the Archean basement and locally on the Lower Cretaceous(Barremian-Aptian) Basal Siliciclastic Formation. In the Dalmiapuram Formation, a facies association of tectonically-disturbed phase is sandwiched between two drastically quieter phases. The early syn-rift facies association(FA 1), records the first carbonate marine transgression within the basin, comprising a bar-lagoon system with occasionally storms affecting along the shore and a sheet-like non-recurrent biomicritic limestone bed on the shallow shelf that laterally grades into pyrite e glauconite-bearing dark-colored shale in the deeper shelf. Spectacular breccias together with varied kinds of mass-flow products comprise the syn-rift facies association(FA 2). While the breccias occur at the basin margin area, the latter extend in the deeper inland sea. Clast composition of the coarse clastics includes large, even block-sized limestone fragments and small fragments of granite and sandstone from the *** beds of quieter intervals between tectonic pulses occur in alternation with them. Faulted basal contact of the formation, and small grabens filled by multiple mass-flow packages bear the clear signature of the syntectonic activity localized contortions, slump folds, and pillow beds associated with mega slump/slide planes and joints, which corroborates this contention further. This phase of tectonic intervention is followed by another relatively quieter phase and accommodates the late syn-rift facies association(FA 3). Palaeogeography, palaeohydraulics and palaeoclimate of the Mio-Pliocene Siwalik Group, eastern India

South-southwestward palaeocurrent swerved to east-southeast and then broadly to southeast over the transition from alluvial fan to axial channel and then to the flood plain in the Mio-Pliocene foreland system within which the Siwalik Group depositd in Darjeel- ing-Jalpaiguri Districts, eastern India. Palaeocurrent pattern is found to be multi-modal on the fans, virtually unimodal on the axial channel zone and again multi-modal, more profoundly, on the flood plain. Coarse siliciclastic mass-flows were progressively eliminated and gave way to predominant bed-load transport downfan and the axial river, and then to suspensionload dominance in fine siliciclastics on the flood plain. Distal flood plain lacustrine sediment included most of the coals and the entire bulk of the dolomitic limestone. Further resolution in palaeogeography within the frame of aforementioned foursome facies associations is elicited in twenty-six distinctive facies altogether. Critical evaluation of chemical indices （CIA, CIW, ICV, PIA, as well as Rb/Sr ratio） for weathering and depleted （3180 values indicate a high precipitation rate. The contention is further corroborated by the high discharge rate calculated from cross-set thicknesses within the main channel deposits. Reconciliation of various relevant data sets collected or calculated from all known worksites along the entire 2000 km-Iong exposure belt of the Siwaliks along the Himalayan foothills reveal confluence of two tributaries, one from the west and the other from the east, close to the present study area before escaping onto the Indian plains. Channel parameters, channel-belt width and discharge thus attained maxima in the present study area. The precipitation rate and temperature increased eastward overall as a prelude to the modern trend in this regard. 13C enrichment indicates that the transition from C3 to C4 vegetation had already set in.

Siliciclastic-carbonate mixing modes in the river-mouth bar palaeogeography of the Upper Cretaceous Garudamangalam Sandstone(Ariyalur, India)

Mixed siliciclastic-carbonate rocks constitute the Upper Cretaceous Garuda- mangalam Sandstone Formation, Ariyalur （India）, and offer an opportunity to look into the broad spectrum of mixing of compositionally and genetically different components. The palaeogeographic reconstruction indicates that deposition in the nearshore zone differed strongly in energy and active processes operatives due to the presence of a shore-parallel river-mouth bar. The western wing of the Mississippi bird-foot delta is considered to be a present-day analogon. Facies analysis in combination with petrography clearly shows the variability in palaeoenvironmental characteristics, both biogenic and non-biogenic. It also indicates dia- genetic uptake of carbonate that filled empty spaces and actively replaced original compo- nents. Chemical staining followed by limited application of cathodoluminescence and energy dispersive X-ray analysis （EDAX） hint at intricacies in mixing arising from the compositional variations in the carbonate components. A model of siliciclastic-carbonate sediment mixing, including both the depositional and diagenetic developments, is presented; it is aimed at generating a better overview of, and a deeper insight into, the physical and chemical mechanisms involved.

Isolation and characterization of a profenofos degrading bacterium

Profenofos, a well known organophosphate pesticide, has been in agricultural use over the last two decades for controlling Lepidopteron pests of cotton and tobacco crops. In this study, a bacterial strain, OW, was isolated from a long term profenofos exposed soil by an enrichment technique, and its ability to degrade profenofos was determined using gas chromatography. The isolated strain OW was identified as Pseudomonas aeruginosa according to its physiological and biochemical properties, and the analysis of its 16S rRNA gene sequence. The strain grew well at pH 5.5-7.2 with a broad temperature profile. Bioremediation of profenofos-contaminated soil was examined using soil treated with 200 μg/g profenofos, which resulted in a higher degradation rate than control soils without inoculation. In a mineral salt medium （FTW）, removal in the level of profenofos of 86.81% was obtained within 48 h of incubation. The intermediates of profenofos metabolism indicated that the degradation occurred through a hydrolysis mechanism, and one of the metabolites was found to be 4 bromo-2-cholorophenol （BCP） which in turn was also mineralized by the strain. The results of this study highlighted the potentiality of P. aeruginosa as a biodegrader which could be used for the bioremediation of profenofos contaminated soil.

Accumulation of Polyphenolic Compounds and Osmolytes under Dehydration Stress and Their Implication in Redox Regulation in Four Indigenous Aromatic Rice Cultivars

Present work was undertaken to screen some drought tolerant indigenous aromatic rice cultivars(IARCs),commonly cultivated in West Bengal,India,based on their capacity to produce osmolytes,redox-sensitive phenolic acids and flavonoids,as contrivances for redox-regulation under drought *** glycol induced post imbibitional dehydration stress mediated changes in redox regulatory properties of the germinating seeds of the four IARCs(Jamainadu,Tulaipanji,Sitabhog,Badshabhog),which were assessed in terms of changes in prooxidant accumulation(in-situ localization of reactive oxygen species(ROS)by confocal microscopy,DCFDA(2′,7′-dichlorofluorescin diacetate)oxidation,O2-and H2O2 accumulation),cumulative antioxidative defense(radical scavenging property and total thiol content),ROS scavenging phenolic acids(gallic acid,protocatechuic acid,gentisic acid,para-hydroxy benzoic acid,chlorogenic acid,caffeic acid,syringic acid,salicylic acid,sinapic acid and p-coumaric acid)and flavonoids(catechin,naringin,rutin,quercetin,kaempferol,myricetin and apigenin).The capability of germinating seeds to accumulate osmolytes(like glycinebetaine,proline,soluble carbohydrates and K+ion)and polyphenolic compounds was also correlated with their corresponding redox status and redox biomarkers(conjugated diene,hydroperoxide,thiobarbituric acid reactive substances and free carbonyl content)produced under the same *** results in general showed that accumulation of osmolytes along with the redox-sensitive phenolics and flavonoids conferred the ability to maintain the redox homeostasis under drought stress for the tolerant IARCs(Badshabhog and Tulaipanji).

Hexavalent chromium[Cr(VI)]bioreduction produces soluble Cr(Ⅲ)-organic *** Cr(Ⅲ)-organic complexes are relatively stable once they are formed,and no data about their toxicity were ***,this study aims to investigate the bioavailability and toxicity of the soluble Cr(Ⅲ)-organic *** cerevisiae L^(-1)wild type yeast strain was chosen as the model organism and Cr(Ⅲ)-citrate was selected as the representative compound of the Cr(Ⅲ)-organic *** short-term chronic aquatic toxicity tests of the Cr(Ⅲ)-citrate was explored by measuring growth inhibition,direct viable cell count,dry biomass,biosorption,and the amount of CO_(2)***(Ⅲ)-citrate exerted a toxicity of 51 mg/L with an EC_(50),which was calculated from the percent growth *** toxicity data would be helpful to define the toxic potential of the organo-chromium-Ⅲcompounds in the environment.

BACKGROUND Data regarding the worldwide gastrointestinal surgery rates in patients with Crohn’s disease(CD)remains *** To systematically review the global variation in the rates of surgery in *** A comprehensive search analysis was performed using multiple electronic databases from inception through July 1,2020,to identify all full text,randomized controlled trials and cohort studies pertaining to gastrointestinal surgery rates in adult patients with *** included continent based demographic data,CD surgery rates over time,as well as the geoepidemiologic variation in CD surgery *** analyses were conducted using *** Twenty-three studies spanning four continents were *** median proportion of persons with CD who underwent gastrointestinal surgery in studies from North America,Europe,Asia,and Oceania were 30%(range:1.7%-62.0%),40%(range:0.6%-74.0%),17%(range:16.0%-43.0%),and 38%*** clear association was found regarding the proportion of patients undergoing gastrointestinal surgery over time in North America(R^(2)=0.035)and Europe(R^(2)=0.100).A moderate,negative association was seen regarding the proportion of patients undergoing gastrointestinal surgery over time(R^(2)=0.520)in *** There appears to be significant inter-continental variation regarding surgery rates in *** evidencebased guidelines accounting for the geographic differences in managing patients with CD is ***,as a paucity of data on surgery rates in CD exists outside the North American and European continents,future studies,particularly in less studied locales,are warranted.

Contribution of β-phenethylamine, a component of chocolate and wine, to dopaminergic neurodegeneration: implications for the pathogenesis of Parkinson's disease

While the cause of dopaminergic neuronal cell death in Parkinson＇s disease（PD）is not yet understood,many endogenous molecules have been implicated in its pathogenesis.β-phenethylamine（β-PEA）,a component of various food items including chocolate and wine,is an endogenous molecule produced from phenylalanine in the *** has been reported recently that long-term administration ofβ-PEA in rodents causes neurochemical and behavioral alterations similar to that produced by parkinsonian *** toxicity ofβ-PEA has been linked to the production of hydroxyl radical（.OH）and the generation of oxidative stress in dopaminergic areas of the brain,and this may be mediated by inhibition of mitochondrial *** significant observation is that administration ofβ-PEA to rodents reduces striatal dopamine content and induces movement disorders similar to those of parkinsonian ***,no reports are available on the extent of dopaminergic neuronal cell death after administration ofβ-*** on the literature,we set out to establishβ-PEA as an endogenous molecule that potentially contributes to the progressive development of *** sequence of molecular events that could be responsible for dopaminergic neuronal cell death in PD by consumption ofβ-PEA-containing foods is proposed ***,long-term over-consumption of food items containingβ-PEA could be a neurological risk factor having significant pathological consequences.
