Twin Cities A Matter of Identity and Belonging

The term ＂twin cities＂ refers to a program in which cities from different places in the world form a ＂twinning＂ alliance that serves as a setting for educational, cultural, political, and social collaborations （Grosspietsch 2009）. The purpose of the program is to promote the twin cities in all aspects of life （Jayne, Hubbard, and Bell 2013） and facilitate a feeling of belonging and identity among their residents （Ogawa 2012）. In the current study, the cities of Beer Sheva and Nahariya were taken as case studies for examining the contribution of the program to promoting residents＇ feeling of belonging to their Jewish identity. Specifically, the current study attempted to examine the effect of town of residence and age group on feeling of belonging, and whether familiarity with the Twin Cities program affected the feeling of belonging to Jewish identity, in the assumption that residents familiar with the program would report a stronger feeling of belonging than residents not familiar with it. The study included 147 participants aged 17-64, of them 80 residents of Beer Sheva and 67 of Nahariya. All the participants were recruited to the study voluntarily and were requested to complete an online self-report questionnaire examining feeling of belonging to Jewish identity. Moreover, an interview was conducted with the representative of the delegations at the Amal school in Nahariya, to reaffirm the findings. The research findings refuted the main research assumption that the Twin Cities program would influence the feeling of belonging. In fact, the current study indicates that no correlation was found between feeling of belonging and any of the research measures, aside from religiosity. Israeli High School Graduates＇ Knowledge of the Holocaust： A Case Study

In November 2015, the Israeli Ministry of Education declared that the matriculation exam in history would no longer include the Holocaust, and instead students would be required to write a research paper. Following this decision, we wished to test the level of knowledge concerning the Holocaust among undergraduate students （excluding those who study contemporary history, which includes Holocaust studies）. For this purpose, 145 participants were sampled, students at four Israeli academic institutions： two universities and two colleges. The research question referred to remembering information about the Holocaust and the study took into account students＇ different personal, family, and academic background （having participated in the journey to Poland or not, having relatives who had died or survived the Holocaust, being religious or secular）. The knowledge survey refers to terms from four areas： people, historical events during the Holocaust era, organizations that operated in that period, and places and methods of killing. In general, the level of knowledge was found to be very low （general knowledge score： 42.6 of 100）. No significant differences were found in scores by religion or participation in the journey to Poland, aside from knowledge about places and methods of killing, where we found a significant difference between those who participated in the journey to Poland and those who did not. In addition, no significant differences were found between participants whose relatives had died in or had survived the Holocaust, or by either the number of years since high school graduation or gender. From the respondents＇ answers, it appears that high school studies play an essential role as the main perceived source of knowledge （90.4% referred to school as a main or additional knowledge source）. The promising role of cellular therapies in the preservation and restoration of visual function has prompted intensive efforts to characterize embryonic, adult, and induced pluripotent stem cells for regenerative purposes. Three main approaches to the use of stem cells have been described： sustained drug delivery, immunomodulation, and differentiation into various ocular structures. Studies of the differentiation capacity of all three types of stem cells into epithelial, neural, glial and vascular phenotypes have reached proof-of-concept in culture, but the correction of vision is still in the early developmental stages, and the requirements for effective in vivo implementation are still unclear. We present an overview of some of the preclinical findings on stem-cell rescue and regeneration of the cornea and retina in acute injury and degenerative disorders.

BACKGROUND Patients who undergo orthopedic procedures are often given excess opioid *** the relationship between pain and opioid consumption following total hip arthroplasty(THA)is key to creating safe and effective opioid prescribing *** To evaluate the association between the quantity of opioid consumption in relation to pain scores both pre-and postoperatively in patients undergoing primary *** We retrospectively reviewed patients who underwent primary THA from November 2018-May 2019 and answered both the visual analog scale(VAS)pain and opioid medication questionnaires pre-and *** surveys were delivered daily for 7-days before surgery through the first 30 postoperative *** results were divided into preoperative,postoperative days 1-7,postoperative days 8-14,and postoperative days 15-30 for *** opioid pill consumption and VAS pain scores in each time period were determined and compared to patients’preoperative status using hierarchical Poisson and linear regressions,*** There were 105 patients *** VAS pain scores were the highest preoperatively 7.41±***,VAS pain scores significantly declined in each successive postoperative category compared to preoperative scores:postoperative day 1-7(5.07±1.79;P<0.001),postoperative day 8-14(3.60±1.64;P<0.001),and postoperative day 15-30(3.15±1.63;P<0.001).Mean opioid pill consumption preoperatively was 0.68±1.29 *** to preoperative opioid consumption,opioid use was significantly greater between postoperative days 1-7(1.51±1.58;P=0.001)and postoperative days 8-14(1.00±1.27;P=0.043).Opioid consumption declined below preoperative levels between postoperative days 15-30(0.35±0.72;P=0.160)which correlates with a VAS pain score of *** All patients experienced significant benefit and pain relief from having undergone *** postoperative opioid consumption decreased below preoperative consumption

Aim: To investigate the bond strengths achieved by using a Bleaching Curing Light (BCL) to polymerize orthodontic bonding cement. Material and Methods: 160 anterior bovine teeth were used to form 20 average sized human dental arches, and distributed into 2 groups according to which light curing method used: Group 1: BCL for 40 seconds, or Group 2: LED for 10 seconds. After storage in a controlled environment, Shear Bond Strength (SBS) and Adhesive Remnant Index (ARI) were determined. Results: Group 1 showed significantly lower SBS in the most posterior (first molar) position of the dental arch, (Group 1: 0.7 ± 1.0 MPa, Group 2: 2.9 ± 1.7 MPa, p Conclusion: Simultaneous full-arch curing of orthodontic bracket cement using a BCL is clinically acceptable in all but the most posterior locations along the dental arch.
