Performance of slotted pores in particle manufacture using rotating membrane emulsification

This paper addresses the use of different slotted pores in rotating membrane emulsification technology. Pores of square and rectangular shapes were studied to understand the effect of aspect ratio （1-3.5） and their orientation on oil droplet formation. Increasing the membrane rotation speed decreased the droplet size, and the oil droplets produced were more uniform using slotted pores as compared to circular geometry. At a given rotation speed, the droplet size was mainly determined by the pore size and the fluid velocity of oil through the pore （pore fluid velocity）. The ratio of droplet diameter to the equivalent diameter of the slotted pore increased with the pore fluid velocity. At a given pore fluid velocity and rotation speed, pore orientation significantly influences the droplet formation rate： horizontally disposed pores （with their longer side perpendicular to the membrane axis） generate droplets at double the rate of vertically disposed pores. This work indicates practical benefits in the use of slotted membranes over conventional methods.

We present the application of the theory of Pade approximants to extending the perturbative solutions of acoustic wave equation for a three dimensional vertically varying medium with one *** type of solutions have limited convergence properties depending on either the degree of contrast between the actual and the reference medium or the angle of incidence of a plane wave *** show that the sequence of Pade approximants to the partial sums in the forward scattering series for the 3D wave equation is convergent for any contrast and any incidence *** allows the construction of any reflected waves including phase-shifted post-critical plane waves and,for a point-source problem,refracted events or headwaves,and it also provides interesting interpretations of these solutions in the scattering theory formalism.

Pancreatic adenocarcinoma is a low-incident but highly mortal disease. It accounts for only 3% of estimated new cancer cases each year but is currently the fourth common cause of cancer mortality. By 2030, it is expected to be the 2nd leading cause of cancer death. There is a clear need to diagnose and classify pancreatic cancer at earlier stages in order to give patients the best chance at a definitive cure through surgery. Three precursor lesions that distinctly lead to pancreatic adenocarcinoma have been identified, and we have increasing understanding the non-genetic and genetic risk factors for the disease. With increased understanding about the risk factors, the familial patters, and associated accumulation of genetic mutations involved in pancreatic cancer, we know that there are mutations that occur early in the development of pancreatic cancer and that improved genetic risk-based strategies in screening for pancreatic cancer may be possible and successful at saving or prolonging lives. The remaining challenge is that current standards for diagnosing pancreatic cancer remain too invasive and too costly for widespread screening for pancreatic cancer. Furthermore, the promises of noninvasive methods of detection such as blood, saliva, and stool remain underdeveloped or lack robust testing. However, significant progress has been made, and we are drawing closer to a strategy for the screening and early detection of pancreatic cancer.

High-entropy concept introduced with a promising paradigm to obtain exotic physical properties has motivated us to explore the thermoelectric properties of Sr-substituted high-entropy rare-earth cobaltates i.e.,(LaNdPrSmEu)_(1-x)Sr_(x)CoO_(3)(0≤x≤0.10).The structural analysis of the samples,synthesized using the standard solid-state route,confirms the orthorhombic structure with the Pbnm space *** Seebeck coefficient and electrical resistivity decrease with rising Sr concentration as well as with an increase in *** multiple A-site ions in high-entropy rare-earth cobaltates result in an improved Seebeck coefficient(α)compared to La_(0.95)Sr_(0.05)CoO_(3),associated with a decrease in the Cosingle bondOsingle bondCo bond angle,which further enhances the power *** random distribution of cations at the rare-earth site results in a significant lowering of phonon thermal *** a result,a maximum figure of merit(zT)of 0.23 is obtained at 350K for(LaNdPrSmEu)_(0.95)Sr_(0.05)CoO_(3),which is one of the highest values of zT reported at this temperature for oxide *** study shows promise to decouple thermoelectric parameters using the high-entropy concept in several materials.

In recent years,hard carbon materials have gained significant interest as anode materials for Na-ion *** waste is considered one of the most interesting,renewable,available,and cost-effective precursor to obtain hard carbon(HC);however,HC properties must be finely tuned to achieve performance comparable to those provided by Li-ion *** this work,three biomass wastes(coconut shells,walnut shells,and corn silk) were evaluated as potential precursors for HC preparation involving a pyrolysis process and subsequent acid washing to remove the inorganic *** obtained materials exhibited low and similar specific surface areas(<10 m^(2)·g^(-1)), but they presented different structures and surface *** walnut shell HC possessed a lower amount of inorganic impurities and oxygen-based functional groups compared to the coconut shell and corn silk HCs,leading to higher initial coulombic efficiency(iCE).The structural organization was higher in the case of the walnut shell HC,while the corn silk HC revealed a heterogeneous structure combining both highly disordered carbon and localized graphitized *** HCs delivered high initial reversible capacities between 293 and 315 mAh g^(-1) at 50 mA g^(-1) current rate,which remained rather stable during long-term *** best capacity(293 mAh g^(-1) after 100 charge/discharge cycles) and highest capacity retention(93%) was achieved in walnut HCs in half-cells,which could be associated with its higher sp2 C content,better organized structure,and fewer *** "adsorption-insertion" Na storage mechanism is suggested based on several *** walnut HCs exhibited an attractive energy density of 279 Wh/kg when tested in full cells.

Zooplankton communities are an essential component of marine and freshwater food webs. However, there is still a relative lack of information on how these organisms behaviourally respond to a range of abiotic and biotic stressors. Specifically, the behaviour of the cladoceran D aphniopsis australis, a species endemic to South-eastern Australian saline lakes and ponds, is still unknown despite its potential role in the structure and function of inland water ecosystems. The swimming behaviour of males, parthenogenetic females and epiphial females was investigated under various conditions and combinations of food and conspecific cues. In the absence of cues, males displayed the most extensive swimming behaviour, exploring all areas of the container, and swimming in a series of relatively straight trajectories. In contrast, females typically exhibited a hop-and-sink motion characterised by the alternation between short bursts of swimming and sinking phases. Both females spent long periods near the bottom of the container, but epiphial females appeared to be more active than parthenogenetic ones that rarely made an excursion in the water column. In the presence of cues, males and females showed abilities to detect infochemicals from food and conspecifics, but exhibited specific behavioural strategies. Males essentially increased their swimming speed in the presence of food and/or conspecific infochemicals, and this increase was independent on the source of the cues, i.e. food, conspecific or a mixture of food and conspecifics. In contrast, females exhibited cue hierarchies that were related to their sexual status. Parthenogenetic females swam faster in the presence of food and a mixture of food and conspecific infochemicals than in the presence of cue from the opposite sex, which did not significantly differ from control observations conducted in the absence of cues. Diffuse large B-cell lymphoma(DLBCL)is the aggressive form of haematological malignancies with relapse/refractory in∼40%of *** mostly develops due to accumulation of various genetic and epigenetic variations that contribute to its *** large-scale structural alterations have been reported in DLBCL,their functional role in pathogenesis and as potential targets for therapy is not yet well *** this study we performed detection and analysis of copy number variations(CNVs)in 11 human DLBCL cell lines(4 activated B-cell–like[ABC]and 7 germinal-centre B-cell–like[GCB]),that serve as model systems for DLBCL cancer cell *** heterogeneity observed in CNV profiles of these cell lines and poor prognosis associated with ABC subtype indicates the importance of individualized screening for diagnostic and prognostic *** analysis of key cancer genes exhibiting copy alterations across the cell lines revealed activation/disruption of ten potentially targetable immuno-oncogenic *** guided in silico therapy that putatively target these pathways is *** on our analysis,five CNV-genes associated with worst survival prognosis are proposed as potential prognostic markers of DLBCL.
